The Mayan civilization that we have come to know and speak of today is very mysterious and almost mythical. There are many legends of The Mayans. Nobody knows much about them and what we do know mostly comes from Mayan descendants.
It is said that the Mayans are known to be Belize’s first and most lasting people. It’s stated that most knowledge of the Mayans were lost when the Spanish Conquistadors laid waste to the vast majority of the Mayan libraries. Fortunately enough for scientists and historians the Mayan people recorded some of their history as well as passed it on through the generations.
It’s said that the Mayan people were very advanced for their time. They were artistic and smart. Mayans that are found and or discovered today are descendants of earlier Mayan settlers. Although it is up for debate and many have other opinions the Mayan calendar states that the creation of the Mayans was on August 11th of 3114 B.C.
In what is known as the Early Preclassic Period of the Mayans there has been known art and pottery made by the Mayans. In the Middle Preclassic years throughout the Late Preclassic years the Mayans continued to grow in size and knowledge. During the Classic Period the Mayans were known as one of the most smartest and knowledgeable civilizations to have ever existed.
The Mayans are very widely known for their advanced knowledge in the arts, sciences and mathematics. It’s been said that the decline of the very Mayan existence bean between 700 and 900 A.D. There are many theories as to why the Mayan civilization declined and or vanished from site.
Some say it was an over populace some say it was starvation due to consuming most if not all of their natural resources. Some traditions and practices of the original Mayan civilization still exist in today’s Mayan culture. Some things are meant to remain mysterious and mythical and unknown if not it could mean destruction, decline, and downfall.
