The art of reading tea leaves is called Tassiologi. The basic idea is for the reader to interpret the shapes that the tea leaves make once the tea has been drunk by the person who wishes their fortune read. It is up to the reader to interpret the shapes formed and relay the message they write.
To read the leaves, the cup should have a wide brim, slightly sloping sides, and a not too small bottom, so that the leaves may scatter, as they need to. The tea itself should be a good quality, preferably black tea. Don’t use a teabag. The tea should be brewed in a kettle without a sieve, including the spout. Pour the tea into a cup, and the person whose fortune is to be read should drink it, leaving a small amount of liquid in the cup along with the leaves. Holding the cup in the readers left hand, swirl the liquid in the cup counter-clockwise three times and then turn upside down onto a plate so the liquid drains. The handle of the cup should point towards the reader. After a few moments of drainage, the cup may be righted and read.

When reading the leaves, there are many things to take into consideration. You should look at the overall picture as well as the small signs. The clear signs are more important than the weak. The signs' positions relative to i the cup's ear determine the time factor. A sign to the left of the ear refers to what has happened or to something left out. A sign to the right of the ear suggest the present or the future. The distance to the bottom also denotes the time. A sign at the very bottom hence indicates a very distant future or times long gone. The signs' size show the extent of the events and the importance for the afflicted individuals. You must not tell your fortune in tea leaves too often, at most once a week, or else you will most certainly see contradictory and/or illegible signs.
The good signs to look for are:
· Eagles
· Swans
· Horseshoes
· Brooms
· Elephants
· Eggs
· Figs
· Fruits
· Most birds, especially migratory birds.
The bad signs are:
· Daggers
· Owls
· Time glasses
· Rats
Other signs to look for are:
· A leaping dog means that one will soon meet a good old friend. If this sign is found in the bottom of the cup it means that a good friend is in trouble.
· A lion forecast a high and rewarding governmental position, especially if there is a labyrinth next to.
· A wolf is a warning for envy full people around you.
· A vulture near the bottom of the cup is a foreboding of cruel enemy who seeks to harm you. If there is a horseshoe next to the vulture he will not succeed with his intent.
· Flowers denotes love and reverence.
· A daisy is a sign of simplicity, sobriety, or lack of confidence and assertiveness.
· A pear foretells a good economy.
· An apple indicates a good economy and thrift.
· An airplane suggest promotion.
· An anchor envisage success. It may also, as does the key, more specifically foretell success in business.
· A cross forebodes trouble or adversity.
· A face tells of change.
· A key foretells success in business.
· An umbrella announces protection.
· A ring anticipates marriage.
· A ship tells of travels.
· A star suggest a happy future.
· A triangle predicts inheritance. It may also denotes an unexpected journey.
· Wings prophesy important messages.
· A windmill forebodes hard labor.
· Circles predict money.
· A crown signifies honor.
· The heart signifies pleasure. If two are together, or one, with a ring near it, they foretell marriage.
· The sun is a sign of greatest good luck
