I have dedicated myself to the heart walk this year and I am trying to raise some funds to reach my goal. Cardiovascular disease is very rampant in my family on both sides. I felt I was pretty educated about most aspects of it until I, myself had to deal with it. In November 2008, I had 2 blood clots. One was in my groin area and the other in my lower left leg. My foot and toes lost circulation for over 7 hours before I finally determined it was not my "Raynauds Phenomenon" But, that something was seriously wrong! I spent 8 days in the hospital, 5 was in ICU because of the severity of my situation, having 3 auto-immune diseases. I had 2 angio-grams and a million other tests and blood work. Finally they were able to release me. I went through what is considered severe frostbite! It was the most painful thing I have ever endured in my life!!! Look up some pics...not pretty! I have some pics of my toes but, not sure that I want to share them...My toes were black at one point and I guess, very dead! I had to soak them every night and the layers kept coming off. I lost all of my toe nails on that foot. If I had waited much longer I would have lost my toes or my foot. To this day, I just lost my second to the last toenail for the 2nd time and I am about to lose my big toenail for the 3rd time. My toes are still numb, and they say that the feeling may never come back...A positive attitude and determination is the best thing I have.
