Jax woke up to his alarm. He hated waking up for school. He got dressed and walked down stairs. His mom was sleeping on the couch again. Jax grabbed his backpack and a pop tart to head out the door.

As Jax walked down his drive way he felt the earth underneath him begin to shake. He looked up and watched as the skies turned a crimson red. Lightning struck through the skies as thunder cracked loudly in the distance. From the skies began to fall a rain of fire. Torching everything around Jax. As he turned back towards his door, his house exploded sending him backwards and knocking him out.

He laid there unconscious as the fires burned. A classmate of his, Trey Williams, saw him lying there and rushed to his side. Trey wore black jeans, and a white beater. His shaggy blonde hair down over his eyes. Trey knew Jax, but had constantly fought with him over the years. They were anything but friends. Even though he disliked Jax, Trey didn’t want to see him die, so he pulled him away from the fire.

“Hey, Storm! Wake up man.” Said Trey panicky hitting Jax’s face.

“What…whats going on?”

“No clue, man. The entire city is on fire. We need to go before the smoke starts suffocating us.”

“My mom is still inside.”

“No offense man, she’s probably dead by now. The fire started almost an hour ago.”

Jax felt his heart sink to his stomach. His mother was the only family he had. Now he was standing here watching the world he knew literally burn to the ground. The dark smoke surrounded them as they started to run down the street. The heat was nearly unbearable. Jax could feel himself sweating profusely. As they turned by the mall Jax heard screams of people burning alive. Jax dropped to his knees feeling shaky. Looking up he saw a pair of head lights stop just in front of him and Trey.

“Hello?” called a soft female voice from inside the car.

“Rachel?” hollered Jax recognizing her voice.

“OH MY GOD! Jax get in.” Rachel yelled back. Jax climbed in, followed by Trey. Her blonde hair cut short, hung at her shoulders. Rachel’s green eyes were filled with worry. Her normal tan skin was pale, covered in ash from all the smoke. “I am so happy to find someone still alive. How did you two manage not to get caught in a fire?”

“I was walking to school and saw you boyfriend here get blasted back when all the explosions started happening.”

“Thanks for saving my life, man.”

“Like, what the hell are we going to do? I can’t see too much out the window cause of the smoke.” Stated Rachel.

“Shut the engine down…the smoke will clog it if you keep it running, Hun. We should be ok in here for a while. All we can really do is try to wait it out.”

“For once, I actually agree with you, Storm,” stated Trey dryly, running a hand through his hair, to brush it away from his eyes.

“I wish I knew what could have caused something like this to happen. It’s scientifically impossible for a city to just spontaneously combust like this.” Jax thought out loud to himself.

“Dude, look at what’s been going on around the world lately, Atlantis rising from the Bermuda triangle, stone hedge glowing, weird creatures tearing apart entire towns, not to mention a dragon siting last night in Alaska. Science and rationality have gone out the window man. It’s like that song….’it’s the end of the world as you know it.’ I mean sure we wait and hope the smoke dies down, but then what?” asked Trey.

“We get the hell out of the city. Whether we like it or not we stick together and just try to survive.” Jax said.

“What if we’re the only ones left, Jax?” asked Rachel.

“I doubt we’re the only ones left. If we are then we are seriously fucked.” Stated Trey

“Yea…” replied Jax dryly as he looked out the window. He could hear the fire roaring outside even though he couldn’t see through the smoke. The smoke was so thick now that they couldn’t see a foot past the vehicle. There was no telling was out there. He sat there silently thinking to himself. Wondering what could have caused this to happen. Wondering how God could allow something like this to happen. Was something similar happening everywhere? Were there any other survivors out there? Would Rachel, Trey, and him even survive long enough to make it out of the city. If they did make it out, where would they go? Jax had a sister, Michele, who lived on a ranch in Nevada. Was Michele even alive? They hadn’t spoken in several years.

Jax could remember everything about her. She was five foot four inches tall with cherry blond hair and ocean blue eyes. Her voice was almost always as soft as a church mouse. But the girl could sing, and when she sung everyone would stop what they were doing and listen. She had been Jax’s best friend, till her and their mother got into an argument and Michele left. That was five years ago. It was the last time Jax had spoken to his sister.

“I think we may be able to see enough to drive around a lil bit.” Rachel said breaking the silence.

“Ok. Let’s how far we can make it.” Replied Jax

“Wake me up if we make it out the city.” Stated Trey, as he curled up on the back seat.

Rachel turned the car on, hearing it purr like a cat before placing it in drive and stepping on the gas. They drove a few blocks in silence hoping to see someone else was still alive. Suddenly the car came to an erupt stop. Jax looked at Rachel questionably. He watched as Rachel tried to turn the car over again, but the car remained dead. As they sat there they felt the ground shake from under them, vibrating the entire vehicle.

As the smoke started to clear, Jax looked out the window to see twenty large creatures walking towards the car. They appeared to be humanoid but with greyish skin that looked like they were wearing wax masks. None of them had ears, from what Jax could make out. Both their lips and eyelids were sewn shut. The creatures were wearing a mid-evil style black spiked banded mail armor and all of them were carrying two spiked flails. The creatures all stood around nine feet tall.

“What the hell are they?!” panicked Rachel.

“I have no clue, baby.”

“We might wanna’ run.” Suggested a scared, Trey.

“Can we out run them in this smoke?”

“I think we may be fucked…” said Jax as he looked behind them. It stood a diabolic-looking winged creature. Vicious looking bone spikes were protruding from its head. Smoke lifted out of the creature’s body. The creature looked as if it were made of molten lava. It seemingly smiled at the group. It opened its mouth wide reviling sharp fangs that lined the entirety of its mouth. Jax could barely make out two hose like things inside its mouth. It puffed its chest and sprayed something that caught on fire once the liquids touched. The fire went over the car catching the other creatures on fire.

“Well, least now we only have to worry about that…dragon,” said a scared, Jax. “Can the car turn on yet, baby?”

“No…”

The dragon tilted its head slightly to the right, looking at something that was approaching from the front.

“Who is that?”

Jax looked forward again and saw him. He was an averaged size man, wearing a black cape. He had long black hair that flowed to his shoulders. Jax sat there in shock recognizing the man immediately. He placed his right hand on the hood of the car and smiled at the creature. He began to glow and within a second they were gone.

Jax looked around and saw that they were now in a green clearing, with no weird zombie looking creatures or dragons. He got out of the car quickly and ran to the man, swinging his right arm up punching him in the face.

“You’re supposed to be dead…Dad!”

“Sorry to disappoint you, Jax, but if it weren’t for me you would be dead.”

“Who is that?” asked Rachel as her and Trey got out of the car.

“This is my dad. His name is King Nicholas Alexander Majre Freeborn.”

“That’d make you a prince, J,” said Trey.

“I thought your dad was dead.”

“So did I, Rachel.”

“I was sent home to my world, Darkfalls.”

“Wait, you’re an alien?”

“He’s human.”

“I’m confused.”

“Then listen closely children and I shall explain. At the dawn of time there was one world, Avalon. In the midst of Avalon’s destruction, its people, created several realms. They were Earth, Darkfalls, Haven, Oblivion, Camelot, and New Avalon. People were sent to each of the realms to live and start again as it was. Gates were created to travel between the realms.’

‘I am the king of Darkfalls. Plus I am one of the Guardians, given powers from the realm of shadows. My enemies know me as Slinker. I am over two thousand years old. It was during one of my journeys here that I had children. I have three children who were born here, two girls and one son. Now a force from my past who was exiled from my realm is seeking a way to be set free here on earth. His name is Talok, The Dragon Master. You my son may be the only chance this world has at stopping him. Those creature back in Sacramento were members of his general’s, Ceta Qui’s army. They were death bringers and a hellfire warm. We must go seek safety right now and rest. Your training begins tomorrow Jax.”

“Why should I trust you?” asked Jax.

“Because right now I’m the only hope for your survival.
