Same old same old. Clean house, clean the turtle tank, cook, relax, rinse, repeat.
Cleaning the new tank will be different.
I guess it is that time of the week.
Go outside, write a personal journal entry in my actual paper journal and then play in the dirt a little. Maybe this time I will drift off to Never Never in my brain and lose all track of time. Last weekend it just didn't happen.
COMMENTS
Well my dear, I hope that it happens sometime today!
The work in the yard happens but the Nirvana still eludes me.
Rare second entry for the day.
I am being lazy. I know I need to get off my duff and make dinner but I keep putting it off. This entry is part of that process.
We went out today to a little flea market not far from home. I got a new cookbook, bought a copy of Taxi Driver for my son, a new book and a new purse. I used the old purse until the straps were ready to fall off.
I got the box o' Ramen before we headed out. Very pleased with my purchases. Green Tea Pocky tastes like...green tea! Who would have believed it! My peach flavored bubble gum was a nice treat. So good, I wished there were more than three pieces to a pack. The Jasmine rice, the varied packaged noodles. I will be shopping that online store again. They also sell a wide variety of Yam noodles, Nori, seasonings and snacks. Well worth the $7 shipping.
Some may have noticed, my husband is back to visiting us on VR. His userprofile is Myth. He will stay as long as he feels comfortable and happy and will leave without notice when he gets bored. I thought VR would be a good place for his poor brain to socialize and release itself. Also, the man is spending too damn much time on ebay.
I love him and I worry that he spends too much time shut up in our room on his days off looking at the cameras for hours on end.
I hope people will make him feel welcome without suffocating the shit out of him.
Now I will get off my ass and start dinner.
I am being such a lazy bitch.
COMMENTS
I had one of those days yesterday!
Dinner turned out perfect. I still have a little cooking left to do for tomorrow. Things will be better for you tomorrow.
I will be sure to welcome your husband and be vague about it. If you feel like he is isolating maybe drag him out of the room and have a family picnic in the park. It's the perfect time of year for it. I hope everything works out! :)
You would be one of that last people I'd accuse of being lazy...lol
That shopping run brought back some yummy stuff. Too bad that I have to monitor my sodium intake, as I'd be on the hunt for some of those noodles.
I'll be sure to say hi to the hubby!
Hey Thanks!
My box of Ramen arrived this morning!
Went into town this afternoon for the weekly forage; grocery trip.
Actually it began with a trip to the VA Clinic. Annoying as always.
I took my young lady to Sally's for a resupply on fingernail polish and a few other things and we went a little berserk. Luckily my man is very understanding and won't be too upset.
Well, actually, he kind of choke coughed when I told him the sum but quickly recovered when I assured him that our fiscal asses are covered.
I woke up way to early this morning. I have a policy, unless it is Sunday morning, I do not get out of bed until after 7am. This morning it was 6 and after sleeping poorly too.
I woke up and the Big Man is making coffee. I get dressed and my son comes walking out of his room. It isn't even 6:30!
So instead of drinking my coffee over Minecraft or Sims I turned on the computer. Log on to facebook, VR, check the weather and the emails. Not really into this crap and the coffee wasn't working. I finally hopped into the shower to get ready for my visit with Granny.
My daughter calls and says she is on her way home so she can come with me to visit Granny. since the start of the summer she has been spending a week at home and then a week with her boyfriend's family. Really, super nice down to earth people. We were already running late but ok.
The Big Man comes in from outside and says he has a splitting headache so we decided not to go anywhere today. No sooner had we decided not to go anywhere the VA called to let us know they were closed for the day because of a water main break.
I called Granny to let her know we would visit tomorrow and she is coming down with something. We can't visit until after her next round of chemo.
COMMENTS
I just can't start my day off on the right foot without a good cup of coffee! Lol
As for missing your visit, I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope and pray that her chemotherapy treatment works and she has a speedy recovery!
It is Stage 4. She would say that it is in Gods Hands.
Last night I actually did buy Ramen, rice and pocky online. The Ramen was in flavors I cannot get in the grocery store and the rice was just too good a deal.
I have heard that the Asian Market in my town has closed and needed to find a new supplier for my specialty ingredients.
Last night, with both kids away AND the man off at work, I felt listless. I didn't have to cook because I had plenty of left overs. At midnight I shut off the tv and went through the motions of getting ready for bed but found myself unable to sleep. I finally did around 1 after reading The Apocalyptic Rock Fight in It.
I dislike slovenliness and I dislike failure to bear responsibility and most of all after years of customer service experience which covered several different types of food service including short order cooking, special order preparation and face to face customer service I really dislike a lack of professionalism and decorum which also extends beyond the workplace environment. I am all for pride not only in the work I perform but in the company that cuts my paycheck but
but
BUT.....tsk tsk
When a person comes across a complaint or criticism of their employer or workplace the appropriate thing to do is blame the bad experience on the customer and tell them it must be their fault? To make excuses for why it must be tolerated? In written speech that would be corresponded by deciding that abbreviation of entire words is best. What?
No.
Even if the customer is a monstrous douche bag, if you wish to represent your company in the best light possible and possibly win the favor of a new client, apologize and explain that it must have been an aberration because your company strives to always make the customers happy in order to ensure repeat business.
I don't like to argue with people on the Internet. It is stupid and it is so beneath me. I just needed to say something so that my headache will go away.
Of course I am abandoning that discussion.
COMMENTS
I agree with you. As an employee, and a human being with basic training, one has to always maintain a professional demeanor at all times when dealing with customers, regardless of who is right or wrong.
(Lord - sometimes it can be hard though! lol)
I know it. Believe me, I had my share of mouthing off to customers but then I learned to keep them happy and mouth off to the bosses instead. Power to the people, hehe.
We took this picture of our neighbor's dog Brownie a few years back. Back then this was the closest we could get to her. She spent most of her life afraid of people but my neighbor Bobby is a good guy. He loves everyone even if he doesn't quite understand them. He told me that when Brownie first came home with him she would hide whenever he came out with the food. She wouldn't let anyone near her, she just barked and growled. Over time she slowly learned to trust him. My son spent time close to the dogs and one day I watched that antisocial creature hunker down next to my antisocial creature. In the last couple of years I have even been able to pet her a few times.
Tonight we were on our way to get dinner and Bobby stopped us to say that Brownie had passed away today. She was 14 years old and happy.
sure gonna miss that dog.
COMMENTS
What an awesome story...what an awesome dog. Beautiful!
She was a real sweetie. I think she was probably on the verge of a stroke or had just had one recently because for the last two weeks her head was tilted like something was in her ear. All of the dogs will miss her and so will Miku.
I am a little nervous folks. Today we are getting something done that quite honestly is a long time coming. When a person lives in a house, most specifically a house with a septic tank, certain maintenance has to be done. We literally had to scrimp and save to come up with the money for this. Now that the call is made and the folks are on their way I am just looking forward to getting an earful. Probably some education and I expect a little annoyance with us from the people doing the work.
It could not be helped. No one does this on easy payment plans.
COMMENTS
So true...like you would wait if you had the money?
The people were super nice. Down home country farm people; a guy and his mom. They gave us a discount and the Big man gave them a small tip. it seemed to flummox them a little. People in the south are lousy tippers. I doubt that anyone tips for maintenance services.
The good news is that everything looks fine, though they did warn us about the possibility the drain pipes might need replaced. Fingers crossed!
Right on! Keep those toes crossed as well...lol! :)
:)
The number one reason I don't stream video's when my husband is home; I cannot even get through 10 minutes of video without stopping it a dozen times in the length of an hour because the man who wants to be left alone wants my undivided attention.
I love him, I do but damn it he has been allowed to finish multiple anime series and I can't even get through one damned episode.
COMMENTS
Remind him that you also need your personal time!
I get Sunday through Tuesday for personal time by his way of thinking. I don't always have time for myself on those days. He isn't an asshole or anything, I had a moments annoyance because I have been unable to watch my Dramas in weeks. I was watching one of them and he came out of the bedroom and started petting one of the kitties. Her reaction tickled him to giggles which of course I had to respond to. After which he decided to make nonsense conversation with me. He stopped after I paused my video and repeated his words back to him.
It has been a long day. Long but not bad or tiring, except maybe for the trip to the grocery store.
I woke up at my regular time, fed the cats and started coffee. Played Sims until 8am and then woke up the boy. Went to Granny's house and had a nice visit. I think it was long overdue. We talked about the Cancer and her plans. I did some light housework and we needed to pick up a few things from the shop so we drove the truck. It felt like riding in a roller coaster, bumpity bumpity!
we had to ride into town to get pet supplies and made a pit stop at the goodwill. The one in town is pretty terrible and we never find anything we like but strangely enough today we did.
The damper on the day was that we did all of this without bothering to eat. By the time we got around to the grocery store all three of us were tired and hungry.
I think it is time for a sandwich.
COMMENTS
:)
I will make that sandwich sometime soon too!
Now - I think I'll go make a BLT...
I love BLT but on a hot day dislike the WORK. haha
Girl...you microwave that bacon...no need to fry it in a pan at all!
Microwave? I cook for 4 people. I throw it onto a foil covered family sized Foreman Grill. I just hate peeling it apart.
Got the new truck home today!
COMMENTS
Cool bet you can do a lot of moving things with that and loading things in it. Id like to go for a car ride now hehe
That is the point! We are definitely looking forward to hauling things. Where we live we haul our own trash and the poor Mustang has been stuck with the job.
Sweet! Looks like the cat approves as well.
Yes, Miku loves the truck!
I just finished watching The Daisy Chain.
Some reviews that I have seen would have the reader believe that it is not a very good film.
As far as Horror goes, it is not so much Horror as it is Intrigue and Chiller. Done up much in the same way as Bernard Taylor's The Godsend, which I really enjoyed.
It didn't suck
Just spoke with my husband. tomorrow he is bringing home the new truck! It has been years since we had more than one car and we sure could never have afforded this if it weren't for a wonderful coworker of his.
I am very excited!
The only air conditioning is in my bedroom and my son's room. The day has been hot and uncomfortably muggy and as I spent a good deal of it in the main part of the house, I was thoroughly drenched. This made all the better by the thunder storms that came through, I had to shut the house windows for well over an hour, nearly two. Finally around midnight it is cooled enough to even consider taking a shower. The bathroom is like an oven, unless someone is showering. When a person showers it becomes a sauna, even if cool water is used.
A bit miserable.
Well piss all.
I just got off the phone with Granny. She is doing chemo right now but her Small Cell Carcinoma is Stage 4. She is making arrangements so as not to leave to much burden on family and friends and she said it is time for my husband to come and get his tools and things from the shop. The financial burden is heavy and amidst her prayers for a miraculous self healing she is also praying for a miracle of another kind. She is trying to sell a '59 Chevy for $10,000.
Everything on it is sound but it needs a lot of elbow grease to get going. I just don't know anyone who will pay that much for a car that hasn't been cranked over in more than 5 years.
COMMENTS
If the car is in good condition, it could get more.
I'm hoping the best for you all!
Everybody wants a good deal and she is not bending. We will try and help her get a good price on it but I think we might have to put a little money into it for her. People want to see hear the engine and see it work.
Woke up with a splitting headache. I hope a coffee can knock it back. I can't call my dad until it's a low ache he is just to annoying to deal with when I feel like crap.
If I was a single mom I would smack the asshole who told me Happy Father's Day.
COMMENTS
LOL...!
Right though?
I know right!?
I am a nut.
Ever since moving to South Carolina I have searched and inquired about a specific Gorgonzola. Going on 8 years people!
My quest? To engineer, from scratch, a pasta salad.
A Chicken Pasta Salad with Gorgonzola; to be precise. The grocery store I worked for sold it in the service deli. I made this salad 3 days a week and loved it but it always tasted best with the Belgioioso Blue foil wrap.
My local grocer finally ordered it and we just happened to stop in for some little thing that we can't get at Sam's Club so I made the pasta salad components and am waiting for the pasta to chill enough to mix them together.
As of today my daughter has been at her friend's house for one week. She calls and checks in but I haven't seen that face. Last night I went in to feed her turtle, Sheldon. The little critter is about 2 inches long and cute as heck. We don't know the gender yet so I try to refer to it as either it's name or something non-gender specific.
My daughter hand feeds it and every day this week when I go to check on Sheldon it comes run/swimming out of it's very hiding place and start jumping on the side of the tank, begging and also wanting attention. My daughter places with it too.
Last night Sheldon saw me as soon as I opened the bedroom door and tried to greet me. Tried but had trouble getting through the opening of the turtle cave. The little bugger had a growth spurt!
I guess it is time to clean the new tank and get a new cave/basking rock.
Sifting through emails this morning. There was a message from the photography company that worked my son's graduation, letting me know that the deadline for ordering at the current price is the 18th of June.
What? The paper they sent me says the 20th. Liars.
I had planned to pay on the 20th in order to maximize the budget for this two weeks because of added expenses.
It doesn't hurt badly but it is a huge pain in my ass.
I went ahead and sent the order but only because I promised my son that I would. The photography was not fantastic, the solo picture was actually pretty horrible. Next year I am just going to take my daughter for pro photo's in her cap and gown.
I thought today's visit went well. I finally came face to face with the first person I made friends with through Myspace in 2007. We have been close friends through a lot of personal stuff including major life altering changes in her life and I am happy to say that it was in no way awkward. Sometimes meeting in real life is awkward.
COMMENTS
Wow, thats cool! I hope you two had fun together! And its really neat when you meet someone and its not awkward. I dont like to talk or use the phone but I let this one guy have my number and he said hed call me. He called and we started it up like we had been talking for years it was really cool.... Until he became a duche nozel! But yay for you! :3
I am usually pretty shy but the visit was good. A few of her family members and her new husband were there. She is Honeymooning in North Carolina, we live in south Carolina and her family was in Georgia so we met at a State Park picnic area in the mountains.
Though it was a hot day there were storms rolling in and everyone got pretty chilly when the breeze picked up. I think both of our fellas recognized the kind of trouble we can be when we get together in town, hehe.
She is already talking about making another visit.
Sweet!
When you can meet up with someone you actually really like...cool!
It was cool.
Nothing new or interesting happened yesterday, additionally my laptop has been giving me fits when it gets hot. sometimes I can't keep an Internet connection. This is the hazard of having an old laptop and there is no fixing it.
Today is exciting for me though. A longtime Internet friend is vacationing in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is coming down our way! We will be meeting her about half of the distance between us after my Husband gets home from work. Pretty stoked.
COMMENTS
Do not let the lack of anything new or interesting stop you from completing a Journal entry. There is always bean casserole for gads sake.
I try to avoid making a bean casserole but I did make a thin crust pizza.
Tonight I decide to make a tuna noodle casserole and not feeling particularly creative I looked for a recipe online. I am missing a few ingredients that some people might consider crucial but eh, I can live without them. As I look for recipes I am struck by how absolutely awful they look! They don't look good at all! They are captioned with statements of how the family loves it or it is a favorite and all I can think is,"What shit on a shingle hell do these people hail from?" Not to actually knock SOS, as a kid it was one of my favorites. I always ate the ground beef chunks first. When I want a casserole I want it to bear some resemblance to a pasta with add ins, au gratin potatoes with a pea stuck in here and there. The toppings are a nice touch but I like them to garnish, not cover up.
Perhaps I am too judgmental, last Thanksgiving I actually made my own cream of mushroom soup It isn't hard to prepare a tasty and visually appealing meal that doesn't look like it got pried from the corner of a dumpster.
Again I suggest that I may be too picky or judgmental. Yesterday a nearby grocer was grilling ribs(actually yesterday two stores were grilling and one of them actually was enticing)and as soon as we pulled into the lot something just smelled burnt. I am one of those weirdo's that can tell by the smell that the fryers haven't been filtered or need to be changed. The burnt smell was BBQ sauce from ready to heat and eat pork ribs that already had sauce on them. The air reeked of charred BBQ sauce. It was horrible.
A lady behind me said to her friend,"That shit smells good."
No, it really didn't. It just smelled burnt.
So picky me with no decent recipe online. I will fashion a nice subtle sauce that will compliment the flavor of a fish with a small side of shelled crab.
I am thinking something in a sauteed onion and butter. Maybe a little stir of sour cream or yogurt while the noodles are hot. No topping, I don't need to hide it.
COMMENTS
Hmmm. I should do something with pasta tonight...
Pasta is good.
We decided to cook out tonight because of the heat of the day and the horrible humidity. No sooner were the coals lit and the potatoes baking on the grill, the sky began to darken.
As the sky got darker and rain began to tentatively fall I made light jokes and the Big Man got a "well fuck" smirk on his face. I sat in that patio chair making conversation even as the cats began hiding under the car, only moving when it actually did begin to pour.
I thought maybe this won't last....a check on the radar shows it growing and not moving from above us. I wonder if he still wants to put steaks on?
COMMENTS
So - it was still warm while it rained. Free carwash!
Carwash, lawn spritz. Sometimes the rains here are gully washers and sometimes they are a poodle tinkle. Hence, me not moving until I was on the verge of a shower.
yea I have come to expect weather swings since moving to Florida. Having some prior knowledge when I did basic training, and MOS training in the Army down here in the south.
I lived in Florida for a bit and I remember the weather. Temperamental. The rain broke up for a little bit but still threatens. Steaks are on and I am heating up corn too.
I lived in southern Georgia for almost a year when they hosted the Olympics. I was born and raised in CA so when it started pouring I thought the rain would be cold, Nope, it was warm. You never knew when it would do that and then there were the wild boars blocking roads and the roadkill there was armadillos. I was really in culture shock for awhile. It was hurricane season June to December, so it rained a lot. People were used to it and drove to work most of the time except it if was flooding and it did that a lot in Savannah. I didn't live there, I lived in Hinesville/Allenhurst. I went there a lot because it was only 40 miles away and a much larger city for shopping, etc. Where I live we can't use charcoal in most places.
I live in Upstate South Carolina so I know exactly what you are talking about with the weather. Originally I am from the Northwest and there rain is cold even in the summer but here rain is not a break from the heat.
I did see fireflies tonight though!
Yesterday was a busy one. Senior pictures for my daughter first thing in the morning. It was fun and she got to spend time with a friend because the friends father is the school photographer.
She had big weekend plans so I tagged after her with the money while we went from store to store looking at bathing suits. Last years was outgrown. She hasn't grown an inch in over four years but she is developing bodacious curves.
Got home well after noon and it was hot and sticky weather. Waiting all day for storms that hovered but never came. It was another sandwich night because cooking just would have made the fellas grumpy.
Today it is off to forage(grocery shop)and make the last payment on the computer!
Maybe I will renew my Prem too.
I just got the butt dial from Hell. It was my mom and once she realized she had accidentally rang me she wanted to sit and talk! Then she said she would call me later to spend time.
I wonder if she could be ill.
COMMENTS
LOL. Moms always want to talk our ears off.
Not mine. She is never there when I need her or when I just want to talk. She is never there unless there is something in it for her.
0_o Well, Im sure it wasnt as bad as if my mother butt dialed me... She for one doesnt even know which kid I am... Im either Joanne or Carolyn. And when she does realize who I am she always goes on how terrible I look cause I lost weight, doesnt like the red hair on me, and how this and that is all wrong in my life and I need god... Ill take your mother if you want my hypocritical god loving one XD
hehe, I am the daughter that still talks to her. My sister has ex-communicated her years ago. I can put up with a lot of crap. My mother is charming, charismatic and in the right circumstances she is a lot of fun; like Joan Crawford.
I just have to wonder what is up her sleeve that she even feigned interest in my life. She did not call again and for that I am relieved.
Damn...sorry.
My mom is pretty cool, even though she is in the beginning stages of dementia.
She is always here for her daughters.
I guess I'm pretty lucky...
You are very lucky Isis. I looked to my mother for all examples of what not to be for my kids. They plan on living close enough for me to babysit grandkids and have Sunday family dinners, I think I did ok.
I am having a little trouble deciding what I want for my birthday. I could renew my VR Premium or put money onto my PlayStation account.
This is very difficult.
I woke with a headache.
Organized, intelligent thought translation to mouth or fingers; OFF position.
COMMENTS
Yeah...sometimes it be like that. lol
I think it is the heat. I just spent a couple of hours in my room with the air conditioner and was feeling fine. Stepped back into the kitchen and it is back with a vengeance.
Everything in my head is jumbled right now. I don't think I slept as well as I think I did. I was up way to late talking to a friend on the phone because I was completely annoyed with my husbands medical situation. He had a doctors appointment yesterday and while he talked to the doctor about his ailments she just looked at her computer and typed. Even when she asked questions she never looked at him.
I feel like they have badly neglected his care. He came to them as a Diabetic with a high A1C. He had high triglycerides too, so they sent him for a stress test. His heart is fine. He has been using a machine that checks his blood pressure and records his blood glucose information and sends all of that information to the VA. Why have they not checked liver enzymes until now? Now his liver enzymes are high. Last month after an annual blood draw they discovered that he has a severe vitamin D deficiency. He also has bone and joint pain which has increased. The bone and joint pain could be attributed to the arthritis in his back. He has also been having cramping and twitching in his legs. He also has a digestive issue.
They are talking about things that they can rule out before they can treat what is actually wrong.
None of this feels right at all. I think he needs to use his work insurance and actually get help.
This is the conversation my poor friend had to deal with. She really is a very kind and patient lady.
Last nights pizza was perfect as always. I really do believe that I am done using tomato sauce. Butter and garlic is definitely better and none of that nasty heartburn.
I spent the entire second half of yesterday, until after midnight watching Season 6 and 7 episodes with my son. He actually stopped watching anime and Achievement Hunter episodes to watch with me. It was a fun series. After such a relaxing day I slept extremely well but I woke up with a charley horse. Not comfy.
Plans for today?
Walk the dogs, feed the cats, wash the dishes, clean, cook, maybe squeeze in a little Minecraft. If my brain is not too tired maybe I will try to catch up on the current series I am watching; Doctor Stranger, Angel Eyes and New Leaf. I have slipped a little more than a week behind and lost more time because I got caught up in My Love From the Star. Too many good things! It is like being in a candy shop and trying to pick from all the sweet treats but having limited funds.
COMMENTS
Have you ever tried putting sugar in the tomato sauce to help take away the acidity? Thats what my dad does when he makes spaghetti maybe that would work with pizza sauce?
I haven't and it might be a good idea. I know there was less heartburn when I added BBQ sauce. I am trying to keep the sugar down though because I have a Diabetic in the house and the foods are already carb loaded.
There was less acid the one time I made the sauce with fresh ripe tomatoes. I could try that again too.
The garlic butter is really good though!
I awoke at 5:15a to assist the big man in preparing for his work week. So tired was I that I went back to bed after he left and slept until the phone rang around 9a.
It was Granny calling from the hospital, she has been there most of the week. She was admitted for fluid in her lungs and they have removed quite a lot of it. When doing the scans they found a few spots and biopsy showed a small cell Carcinoma. They are doing more tests but staying optimistic, it cannot be removed surgically so they pan to start Chemo in the next week. All very scary stuff but we still managed to have a decent discussion about current events.
Her health is nothing I can do anything about but I can help with her mental state.
Life goes on and tonight life demands BBQ chicken pizza.

So true...letting our loved ones know that we love 'em is sometimes all we can do.
