I bought a new car! I'm so excited and completely freaked out at the same time. I am the proud new owner of a loan for a 2010 Honda Civic. Oh and because I'm in charge of paying off the loan I get the privilege of driving the car. :p

It's so pretty! It's such a huge responsibility! It's so pretty!

What a wonderful thing modern technology is for us. I remember my dad talking about being in Vietnam and the one thing he cherished was the daily letters from his mom and of course his new bride, my mom. My grandma made sure to send him a date nut cake every so often too. Daddy talked about how he would eat just one slice every day so it would last as long as possible.

Now it's my turn to give to a soldier. He's not family in the blood relation way but, he is part of the family I've chosen. He's been a dear friend for going on 10 yrs now and he's on his 4th tour to the desert. This time, he got his own room and he gets to stay put on base. No convoys, thank the Gods. Being in his own room he has internet access and with the advancement of technology I got to see and talk to him through Skype yesterday.

We talked about what he's doing over there, the elections and the deadline the military has to meet by the end of the year. I told him I wanted to send a care package so he gave me his address and a request for what else? Good ol' Chocolate Chip cookies. Looks like I'll be baking in the next couple of days. Maybe I'll send along a date nut cake too and follow in my grandmother's footsteps. :)

Good on you :D

My Dad was in Vietnam as well, he has never spoken to me about any of his experiences there. I cannot blame him though. I did gain a little insight into what he went through by reading a chapter he had contributed to a book. I never asked any questions after that.
