Got a lot going on right now... First, I have to get at least three estimates from contractors for my mothers house. There has been a crack in her wall for a few years but now that crack has gotten worse and its pointing to an issue with the foundation. Not sure why or whats going on but I am thinking it may be an old steel septic tank buried underneath the house that may have finally rotted to the point of collapse. I am not sure what they will have to do. I just hope it doesnt cost a lot of money. Then I have do a few things before my Uncle Sam's memorial service this Saturday. I would like to get a new pair of black jeans altered since they are new. I have to find my dress shoes and get laces for them. I have to see if I can find my other belt since its new. Look at my black shirts to see if they are in good enough shape and not too badly faded and then get a haircut so I don't look like hell. Not really looking forward to this but in a way I am as I will see family that I have not seen in years. I just have to do my best to get through this week with my sanity intact.
Just wishing everyone a Happy St Patricks Day! I am mostly Irish. My mother being all Irish and my father being Irish French and German. Not sure what clan my fathers side is from since Durant is French and I assume Case is German. So, Here is the crest from my mothers side and what I think may be the clan's tartan.
What is wrong with the youth of today? Do they not have brains? Do they care so little about their lives? What is with this dangerous new trend of people taking pictures of themselves or having people take pictures of them on the tracks??
Do they not realize the danger? Deaths from walking on railroad tracks are up nearly 10 percent, with 483 last year alone, according to the Federal Railroad Administration, with many people pausing to take selfies on the tracks or pose for traditional camera shots. You will not always see or hear a train coming and a train can come from any direction, on any track at ANY time.
The tracks are narrower than the trains, making it hard to judge safe clearance. A fully loaded freight train weighs as much as 6,500 tons and can take 18 football fields to stop a train. It can also take anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes from emergency brake to full stop. Once the engineer decides to put the train in emergency and he's seen you, it's too late.
The girls in the photos I am attaching to this journal entry nearly got killed this afternoon as they were too close to the tracks when a train came on the very track they were taking their pictures on. The engineer laying on the horn as soon as he saw them and laying on the horn well after he passed. I can only imagine what he was going through. The feeling of complete helplessness as the only thing he can do is use his horn and go into emergency, but he cant do that unless he actually hits something. Even after that, the girls went right back to their "photo shoot" after the train passed and the girl even had the audacity to sit on an active rail.
This is sore spot for me as my great grandfather and my father were railroaders. I was briefly a railroader and I have numerous friends in the industry, several of which pass the location several times a week.
Railroad rights of way are not public corridors and are not playgrounds. The heavy equipment that travel on those rails are VERY unforgiving. You get hit by a train, chances are you will be dead. If you survive, you will never be whole again. If you are reading this and are considering taking a picture of yourself or having someone take a picture of you on the tracks, DONT!! The life you save may be your own!!
A train is coming so these girls get out from the middle of the tracks, but they stay too close to the tracks scaring the engineer who was laying on the horn for them to get out of harms way.
Here is the train that almost killed them....
The train has passed and the girls go back to their "Photo shoot", the subject stupidly sits right on an active rail.
Sorry ladies, this isn't sexy, this isn't trendy. Its foolish and DANGEROUS!!
Once again, I haven't been on as much as I would like. MY back has THANKFULLY finally improved. That was really bad. But now my stomach has been giving me grief. That and I have been really run down the last week. I went out yesterday as I just could NOT waste such a perfect day. Today, I slept most of the time, at least when my stomach hasn't been bothering me. I did make the mistake of eating a cheese steak yesterday and had no choice but to have Italian tonight as thats what my mothers aide prepared. Aside from that, bland has been the word. Toast, Raisn Bran with milk, Cheese sandwich. I really need to get back on track here....
Haven't been on as much as I would like lately. Somehow two to three weeks ago, I did something to my back. What I do not know but the pain has been quite bad, especially after being in a seated position for few minutes to less than a half hour. Its really put a cramp in my VR style as I haven't been able to do the rating and posting that I need to level up either profile. At one point, I was able to level my other profile up at least once a day or once every other day. Been on pain meds, but they haven't seemed to help much. Progress has been slow to say the least. Hopefully I have turned the corner and am finally on the mend.
