Taking a page from Joli’s “Writing for Dummies” (has my name all over it, doesn’t it?), I copied a random line from a report I was working on, pasted it into Google and searched for images.
The images I got included the left quadrant of a compass, a pile of Crayolas, a cartoon sun with a smiley face, and a fish lying next to a measuring tape.
The result of my creative efforts:
The sun squashed down on the far hills
A bloated, distorted, vermilion egg
That the eye can suffer
For moments at a time
I blazed quietly
By the flame of the bottle
Streaking by the invisible street
On thoughts of porch swings
Where dead soldiers lie proudly
And all the lazy girls hang and kiss
And heartily the kings of the shame
Sleeping while they love
Rave slowly in praise of the daybreak
For dreamt girls love
With no more blush than the starfall
The waiters know
You see it in their gaze
The waiters here are no strangers to death
Drooping while the virtuous twilight
On the rusty-shuttered eyes impatiently
Goes to lie against the bible-black night.
I was drowned finally
Pulled under by the sounds of the moonlight
Flogging silently at the spellbound winds
Proudly the lords of the tides
Burned savagely in praise of the flagon
Tottering while they walk
Solemnly into the downy bones

Holy shit. This is indescribably good. I am blown away and so impressed. I wish I had written it. I love it from start to finish. Wow. And wow. It makes my chest ache.
"Amazing" does little to do justice. I'm completely and utterly blown away.
Excellent work, sir. Bravo!
Oh, wow.
I want to read this again and again,. I know there are things I am not catching. I want more!
