This month will mark my company's 7th Anniversary. Unfortunately with today's economy, things are even tougher for small businesses than ever before.



It's another storm to weather. Another hill to climb.



I look back on the last 7 years and see what I have already made this business and I know this will be just a speed-bump on the road I'm travelling... and my theory always has been, speed-bumps are less painful if you get over them quickly.



The contract is done. I still have two techs working on it but a lot of income to replace with me no longer on it full time. I'm moving forward and need to focus on future sales, not other peoples' wrong-doings in the past. I have some good people to lean on now and a little more house-keeping to do...



"The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender."



I've worked damn hard on this business... a little economic downturn isn't going to put me under. I founded this business on the heels of 9/11 when the market looked gloomy. I made it through that time, I'll make it through this one.



"What it takes to win is simple, but not easy."



No, I don't think this will be an easy task. Nothing has been. When you're small business it's all stacked against you... you're "commercial" so everything costs more... there are fees for everything. The government taxes you more, you are bound by law to carry more insurance... there are no breaks.



And there are a thousand companies just like mine trying to get that same business.



"What you do should speak so loudly that no one will hear what you say."



As a business owner I have put forth maximum effort to exceed my customers' expectations. To go the extra mile - EVERY time. I will expect nothing less than that from my employees.



Consider the whip to be officially broken in.



"Where else would you rather be than right here, right now?"



It's going to be tough, but adversity is an opportunity for heroism. I will only be my own hero... or my kids' hero, maybe. That is good enough for me. But I have goals. Goals that mean something to me - to fulfill the dreams I have chased for years.



Now it's time to work the plan.
