Cool trick/test for remote controls......
Remote controllers use infrared (IR) light to send a signal to a device like a TV and the TV interprets the specific wavelength or frequency of flash and will preform some function like raising the volume.
Now the human eye can't see in IR however digital cameras can, in a sense.
Take a remote control and digital camera (hand held or web cam), aim the remote at it, push a button on it and view the camera's screen. You'll see a purplish light coming from the diode.
I'm not sure why this is because I don't know much about the workings of such things as digital cameras or the interwebs :P but I know it's a pretty cool thing.
It's also a good trick to see if your remote isn't working because the batteries are low or if it's broken. Of course you could change the batteries and try it out but that's not much fun plus if you're like me you just have a drawer full of batteries and could go through 10 of them before find a working one lol.
And no, this amount IR light isn't harmful so this is totally safe.
Have fun flashing ;)
