Here's one of my creations...pretty lame, huh?
You were always there,
Always held me tight.
Sat and stroked my hair,
when nothing would go right.
I love you, I miss you,
I wish you would come back.
Without you, I'm confused.
My life's shrouded in black.
Here's one of my childhood favourites...
Are we friends or are we not?
You told me once, but I forgot.
So tell me now and tell me true
so I can say "I'm here for you."
Of all the friends I've ever met,
You're the one I won't forget.
And if I die before you do
I'll go to heaven and wait for you.
If you're not there on Judgement Day,
I'll Know you went the other way.
I'll give the angels back their wings,
And risk the loss of everything.
Just to prove my friendship true...
I'll go to hell to be with you.
I can't begin to tell you
All the tings I love you for
But honey, I can tell you this-
Each day I love you more.
And I'm especially hoping
That each day
the whole year through
Will hold some part
of all the joy
That I have known-with you.
I knew a simple soldier boy
who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With cramps, and Ice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain,
No one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.
I chose this poem because there is a very real, deeper, more relatable theme to this poem. I think it also shows the pointlessness of war and the things soldiers go through.
(And by the way, all this fuss between Bush and his followers with Iraq, it's all b.s. in my opinion.)
