Me and Cat *nightgame* have a bet going on. Since we have both been ill, stuck at home since last Saturday with family. Well- she has. I have been alone at my home as I can't take in my flu to Mom/ sisters/ brother.
She had been in a home with 4 kids, 3 more adults.
But either way- we both need a change. So it is a lunch/ dinner away from family, out in a restaurant where we didn't buy/ cook/ clean afterwards. :) Simply things but after 12 or 14 days of doing it day after day- you need a break. And a break from people in her case.
The bet- today the weather calls for rain/ sleet/ ice/ snow. Now, that is on top of the 14 inches we have already on the ground.
My bet is the temps which is to be up to 38 today, will lead to rain clearing some of the snow away, maybe we can get back to work *me* and the kids at her house can get back to school come Monday.
She said it would ice/ sleet/ snow. Not rain, the temps are going to drop and bring in even more snow. Not to get my hopes up.
I called her about 11:30 telling her I was thinking tatter skins and a nice juicy hamburger as it was raining. And the snow in lower areas of the parking lot was melting into a lake.
She called me about a hour later and told me the tatter skins was fine, but she was thinking chill dog. She directed me to look outside at the snow.
LOL
Guess we will wait and see who wins this bet.
*cross fingers for more snow, really.... ;) *
It's official, per the local clinic that I was sitting in front of at 7:40 am this morning waiting to open. I have a inner ear infection, sinus infection. And with the low grade temp and the cough/ weezing of my lungs it is going toward the flu.
So one shot, three meds later and I am home for the weekend. Happy Valentines everyone, I plan to spend it sleeping. I have not slept in two nights- cough syrup is being taken. And as it is a good one that puts me to sleep- sure I will be asleep in a few.
Oh well... time to be a couch tatter.
Would it be rude to lay down on the waiting room couch at the car dealer as I wait for recall work? Throat is sore and my ears hurt. Grrrr... hate being sick.
Went over to Cat *Nightgame aka* home and had cake for her niece 18th brithday. Wow- time goes by fast. I remember when she was born, the night I stayed with her Mom in the hospital to give the others time to rest. The offer to first hold her, the one and only diaper I changed came off her butt. And let's just say... she was a stinky kid. lol
But now she if facing collage.
Wow- time, gone.
It reminds me of a blog I read tho. It was by this lady who was a grandmother to 4 kids, the oldest one staying with her that day. She was sitting at her kitchen table with the bills for the month all sorted out, check book in hand when she had the great ideal of letting her granddaughter pay the bills.
So she called the girl in, sat her down, explained the 'this goes in this envelope, this in this one" and handed her the check book. She wonder down to the basement to switch the laods in the washer/ dryer, even took time to fold them as she had it in her mind her oldest granddaughter was learning what life was, what was coming ahead for her as she grew up and left home. She was being a great Grandma, teaching her this lesson.
So she returend upstair, went into the kitchen expecting the bills to be paid, stamped, ready to go in the mail. What she found was the child sitting, not doing a anything.
After asking her what was wrong- she learned the child did not know how to write a check. She understood the date, and account number but did not know where to put it on the check. And she was able to put in the amount, after her grandmother told her the numbers went in the little box, the spelling in the long line. But she couldn't understand who to write it to. The woman sat, stun. "You have never wrote a check?" "No. Mom pays online, I don't know why you don't."
She sat at the table, dumbstruck. Has it come to this- has the new generation gone that far down the computer age? "So- you could do this if it was online?" She asked her child. Then she pointed out this was the child who she went to for computer help. She was able to fix, search out anything asked of her. Want to order take out? This child did it on her phone, online. What movie was coming out that weekend- this child told her. "Of course."
As she sat there thinking just how different this child upbringing had been, she watched put stamps on the bills. "You need to put return address on them." "Ok- where?" That is at the point she realized the girl had never sent anything by mail "Did you not have a pen pal as a kid?" "Sure- we still email each other even. What has that got to do with this?"
The woman just pointed to the left hand top corner, and the girl finished her task. And the grandmother came to see she was a gas eating SUV in a age of the hybrid cars. She looked down at the bills, the stamps and asked the girl to help her set up online payments. The girl smiled, jumped up and went to get her grandmothers laptop.
In a way- that is what Cat's neice does for me. She shows you how old you are, how outdated you can get. Heck, just this last 4 or 5 months I have started to use text. How bad is that? lol And she has collage, so much to look forward to. And I wish her the very best.
I just hope she knows how to write a check, mail it. ;) Never know when that can come in useful.
And I am still waiting for the whole "Place your order online and we will pull it, have it ready" thing to come to a grocery store/ store near us. lol That I would so use.
Cold weather is setting in for the week. So today I made a huge pot of beef stew for the family. When I say huge, I mean a 9 qt. cast iron dutch oven huge. :) Slow and long cooking time, with 3 hours of cooking made the meat so tender.
Cast iron skillet of cornbread that I put little slices of butter to melt on top.
Peach cobbler from scratch. And some chocolate no bake cookies I made Friday night, sent them the rest down to them.
I even sliced up some onion to go with the beef stew- just to make it perfect. :)
They should be set for at least two days for hot meals/ desserts during this cold weather.
