The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

The Zompire fest went well, and we look to have won some awards. We find out all the whats and wheres later, of course, but it was a lot of fun, and there were plenty of undead fans. While I didn't go, I've ertainly had a hand in hyping it up of late.



This week is another standard week before our next fest. The good thing is that after a screening, I get busier. It's mostly talking to people, hearing their thoughts and excitement on the film, which is really a great feeling, because it's an extra validation of what we are doing is the right thing.



This week is still fixing up shots, getting ready for the next big event, and surviving this heat. We've hit our first triple digit weather week, and you can feel it. I would have to think the vampire population would be low in a desert area with the extreme heat and sun.



One of the collest things in working on a film is that each week is different. You can see one scene change week to week with tighter editing, the addition of music and sound effects, adding special effects.... You are more than familiar with the material, but each week it grows and comes together as its own thing. It's one of the more interesting aspects for an artistic sort of person.

- The Revenant

Tomorrow, the team (Well, part of the team) will be going over to Portland, Oregon for the Zompire Undead Film Festival. It should be pretty exciting sine this is the debut of some new scenes that haven't been in previous screenings. Everyone has been working late nights to make sure we have everything lined up. Myself included. A few small tweaks to the websites, and of course, writing. Always writing....



We do get a break today as it's the director's assistant's birthday today. For that reason, I lobbied for a pinata, because honestly, how many times do you get to legally beat things up with the promise of candy?



The answer: Never enough.



So it's all cakes and gifts and merriment in a little while, which will be a nice reprieve before we're back well into the night (as all good vampires and creatures of the undead are want to do) getting the film ready for its next debut tomorrow.

- The Revenant

After a bit of a rocky start, here we go again.



The film is being finalized in (overly) sunny Las Vegas, where it is still a cool 95 degrees right now.



The team is hard at work adding more complete special effects to our final shots, talking to people who want to know more about the movie, and getting ready for two festivals: Zompire - The Undead Film Festival in Portland, Oregon this weekend, and CineVegas next weekend. The film isn't even completed yet, and we've been doing film festivals every month since Spring started.



The last festival was Xanadu Las Vegas in April where our two leads (David Anders and Chris Wylde) showed up to screen and say hello to people who saw the film. It was pretty funny seeing our T-shirts form a good part of the sea of convention goers that weekend. Still, all the work paid off as we got "Best Feature Film 2009" at the awards ceremony. Definitely a good sign that we're heading in the right direction, right?



So why am I here? To meet people. To meet people who like vampires, zombies and the undead. To meet people interested in the film process, which I'll be glad to chronicle from an insider perspective. The film industry is a lot of fun, but it's a lot of hard work and long hours too. But if you're doing what you love, then it's worth it.



Today is more compositing, preparation for Zompire, and promotion. It doesn't slow down as we near the end. It just gets more interesting. And I've got another busy day ahead of me.
