UGH.

I have a 5 thousand word essay to write for soon so why is it that everything else seems more important than starting that essay?

I better just knuckle down and get on with it.

I am distracted today. :P

"...There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. but at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You have to live - did live, from habit that became instinct - in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized..."

[1984, by George Orwell]

...live with the surety that everything you say or do online is being seen. By someone who might not like it...

Social networking sites are a large melting pot of people’s thoughts, joys and frustrations. While it gives the users a platform to share their joyous moments, feelings of loss, connect with like-minded souls, etc. it allows them to indulge in outbursts of anger and resentment as well.

In face-to-face situations, it can be difficult to express oneself freely without without fear of any repercussions. Hence, the anonymity of social media helps fire one’s resentments one has been harbouring but is fearful to express in real life. Here is a massive maze of people posting their so called intellectual perspectives, or innermost beliefs behind the relative safety of a screen.

For a human being two things are important — one is freedom of expression and the other is our standing in society. Apart from providing the stage for a discourse and engaging (hopefully) with like-minded folk, social networking also offers the users an outlet to release their suppressed emotions. Beware though - not everybody accepts (perceived) criticism (of their innermost thoughts) with grace. There are bound to be things that rub you the wrong way leading to a war of words .

What gets me though, is that people who are caught being 'undesirable' online, get all up in arms about it. They feel they have a right to exist in all their splendid meanness, spewing forth insults and accusations. Some even cry 'corruption!'. LOL!!!

The level of impersonality online allows people to give in to their nasty side without feeling guilty about it. However, what’s wrong with the ugly side of human nature being brought out? Truth is always preferable to being hypocritical.

Or is it...

I sometimes find the day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the things I want to see.

But, that one tiny moment of something beautiful is worth all the time in the world.

...two heartbeats.

...sounds like twins.
