(part one)
She sat there silently looking into the reflection of her eyes like holes of emptiness that she felt inside, her hair shimmering copper red as the brush eased through it. Her blue eyes seem to pierce out of her pale skin like blue silk skilfully placed in the middle of a full moon. Her lips seemed pale and un kissed but deaths kiss had touched them once before and she knew this all too well. She placed the brush down her thin fingers and long black finger nails moving swiftly to a box of bobby pins as she placed her hair up with perfected curls coming down and caressing the back of her inviting neck. She looked down to her dress a corset top, sleeveless and strapless then her long black gloves that went just past her elbows. Then looking down to her wrists where golden bracelets jingled above her gloves where she knew scars where hidden from her haunted past. She looked in the mirror again looking as if to say get a hold of yourself. She got up from her chair at the dressing table looking about her bedroom as the rustle of her dress followed behind her. Candles flicked up around the room lighting it in places and leaving the rest cascading into darkness.

She locked her front door slowly unwilling to leave and placed the key into her hidden pocket and looked upon the black and white horse that was to pull her carriage. The carriage man took her by the gloved hand and helped her step into the carriage carefully shutting the door as if trying not to catch her dress but she heard his thoughts and knew he did it out of routine and he didn’t care much at all.
The journey seemed long and tiring as if it had lasted throughout the night. Finally she felt the final stop from the coachman as his carriage stopped outside of a grand building with other carriages parked outside. She stepped out with yet again the help and routine of the carriage man, he suddenly seemed to grasp her hand as she stood in the dark street and stared at her for a few seconds and finally said
“Wow your beautiful, Ma’rm”
She stood there slightly stunned then looked towards the main doors of the grand building in front of her slightly embarrassed. The hall seemed to tower over every other house’s and building’s for miles. Its columns looking dull from just a few years of age, then men in black and white suits with polished shoes seeming to pour in probably looking for a young beauty to take home upon there arm. Then she slanted her gaze to the other side of the building as women in the most exotic gowns seemed to pour in, in there pairs. She found herself dull in her black gown and saw some women pointing at her laughing in each others ears. She was used to this and took it as the usual everyday routine, she passed it off as them being jealous. She took a deep breath and walked in behind all the other women who looked back and seemed to pout at her as if it where a sin. She already wanted to go home, she had no use for socialising nor did she like it. She finally got into the doors and disappeared into one of the nearest corner, watching silently as the girls seemed to twirl and fan them selves off to every sir or gentleman that went past but it always seemed in vain. Suddenly she heard a voice at her side.
“Hiding in the corner as usual are we?” it was the other person who did not seem to care for socializing as she wondered why he bothered with her, at these so called great affairs.
“Sir Jonathan” she nodded her acceptance to his presence
“Ruby DeTombre” he took her hand up and kissed it gently “Duchess of darkness” he smirked as he rose from kissing her hand. His eyes seemed to say I know of you while his smile said I know nothing but tell me everything.
“You charm yourself, nothing more” she snapped her hand away from his and carried on watching as women fanned themselves off. men danced with there choice seemingly in deep conversation not knowing there really talking about each other and the perfection and mistakes of other partners dancing and then finally go home to dine in wine and end up marrying in a few months time.
“Would you like to dance?” it seemed like it had been a question he wanted to ask for a long time now it was so fast and uncertain, but then again he had never asked it before or seemingly not to any other women at one of these unnecessary events.
“Have you ever seen me dance?” she eyed him sarcastically “no, of course you haven’t because I don’t dance, never have never will”
He seemed to take on a fake pained face that came out in a big smirk “good thing too, I couldn’t dance if I really wanted to” I eyed him for a few seconds then smirked it wasn’t the cleverest of jokes but still slightly funny at least I could of give him that. “Would you at least like a drink?”
He always asked that question and Ruby always said no “no, thank you”
“You never drink, dance or eat? I mean no wonder you’re wasting away” he looked first upon her breast bones then her stomach where her corset could be holding in fat for all he knew. She slapped him and walked away leaving him slightly embarrassed with all the questioning looks he got

There seemed to be stairs in the corner and no one was using them so she took up this chance to change that and headed straight for them. She got to the bottom at looked up they seemed to go on into darkness, she looked back upon the dancers they all seemed to drift away which made the stairs more inviting. She climbed the stairs slowly, every time she stepped further and further up the music and chatter seemed to get ever more silent. Finally she reached the top of the stairs and looked back at the dancers they seemed a haze.
There was a long strip of corridor ahead and only one candle to light the way, Ruby gracefully swept past the candle picking it up with pure elegance. She followed the corridor, in the building documents she felt sure it never said anything about a long corridor like this since some of her money went towards the making of this building.
There was tapestry’s of men and women on the walls they always wore black, and here she was thinking she was on her own for having such a fetish for wearing black. Ruby noted that there hadn’t been any doors and looked curiously behind tapestries encase there where doors behind them but that idea failed. She had come too far now to turn back so she carried on down the corridor stepping lightly feeling the people in the tapestries eyes upon her. Finally the corridor ended with one large and over towering wooden door, it had a picture carved into its wooden features of a throne nothing more but a crown floating above it. Ruby knocked on the crown without thinking and before she could refrain herself, the door swung open and a wave of heat hit her as she thought of a big fireplace.
She stepped inside unsure of what she was doing, after she took a few steps into the room the door slammed behind her she swung round as fright finally hit her with the realisation that she was poking her nose where it shouldn’t be. Ruby grabbed the door handle trying to yank it open but that failed her. She turned slowly examining the room and listening out for any movement she could. Ruby looked the room up and down side to side. A nightmare she used to have came into her mind she shook her head and told herself to get a hold of reality it would be impossible to dream something then for it to actually happen. Ruby thought of how her parents had died straight in front of her after kissing them goodnight. Deaths kiss it seemed, but she had dreamt it was to happen a week before hand.
The room seemed dark and dank and smelled of incense sticks and an unusual smell she could not put her finger to.
A voice began to rumble through the darkness
“My child how long it has been for you to join this path once again” she turned towards the voice’s general direction and stared forwards trying to make out the shadows of shapes and see if anyone stood there.
“Who are you?” she hated not knowing who was talking to her. In fact she hated this situation all together.
“Do you not know? Do you not dream of me? I know who you are so you shall know me”
“Then come into the light of the candle so I can look upon you?” she said it in a certain and determined manner but didn’t believe she was that brave herself.
There was a slight flicker out of the corner of her eye so she turned to see a young gentleman dressed in a fine suit a bit blood stained at the collar and sleeve. She found herself madly attracted but kept it hidden well or so she thought.
“look at you a rare beauty, and so naughty as well the way your chest seems to pout out of your dress as if to say take me now or maybe I should let you know your eyes are glazed over” he walked over to her she couldn’t move his lips near hers.
His deep brown eyes seemed like ecstasy. She felt her self reach some sort of pleasure on a level un known. “That pleasure you feel could last a life time, if you wish it to”
She felt herself wanting and needing it as he smirked seeming to know this.
“Who are you?” she stepped closer to him
“Let me show you” she stepped away but he grabbed her hand as a wave of ecstasy swept through her. Suddenly with no time passing and no footsteps taken they where next to London Bridge hovering above the water in the moons gaze. She accidentally tripped in mid air as he grasped her close, on what she fell on she could not understand.
“Who are you?” she could not help but ask again
“You’re a beauty rapped within darkness and I’m exactly the same” he eyed her for a reaction
“Please I’ve heard that before” and without thinking she threw him away then tried to get ready for the splash into the river that never happened
“By Sir Jonathan I suppose” he looked amused
“Well yes, how did you know about him? Why are you not giving straight answers” she sighed
“Oh don’t sound so glum you have century’s ahead of you and long front teeth” he seemed amused as if he just cracked a very good joke
“What are you talking about” she stood straight eyes closing in on him.
“Well, what do you think it means?” he smiled as if this was a game “Do you feel blood thirsty?” with that she fainted as that was the last thing she could remember.
