The Fires of Kaine
Book 1: Awakening
Prologue: Night of Fire
The room was as quit as death just minutes before. Tyson Kent lay sound asleep in his bed, completely oblivious to the acrid, black smoke that was now rising from the floor. Slowly, he began to stir as the suffocating odor of sulfur began to permeate the room. Then the floor itself burst in a searing inferno that covered the room. Tyson instantly rose to a sitting position staring wide-eyed into the flames.
Out of the fire, a dark figure arose. The figure stood easily ten feet tall. It was covered in some sort of armor that was as black as obsidian. He was shrouded in shadows that obscured his face. Tyson stared in awestruck disbelief at the dark creature that now loomed before him. The being took a step forward and drops of fire rained down to the floor with every movement. The figures face was no longer obscured by the flame. The demon’s face was right out of a gothic painting. His skin was hued a slight red and was covered with tiny horns running like a crown around his scalp. His hair, slightly displaced by the crown of horns, was unnaturally straight and black as coal. It hung without moving down his back and shoulders. His teeth came to sharp, deadly spikes that were contorted into a sadistically evil smirk.
Then a sound like a rock slide escaped from the demon’s throat. The beast was laughing! The room was filled with the sickeningly disturbing sound as the monster threw his head back and went into a full cadence of dark glee. The laughter finally came to a stop as the demon rested his black eyes on Tyson. Sweat began to pour from Tyson’s forehead. The demon’s eyes bored a hole into him. It was as if it could see through him. With every passing moment that the demon stared at him the larger the blacked hole that his stare burned through him grew bigger. Then the beast began to chuckle again, only this time the sound was coming from inside of Tyson’s head, burning a hole through his mind like a wildfire.
“Hello, Tyson” the demon said in a voice that was as course as his laugh. “Or should I say son?”
