Walking home from work, I saw a bird fly down and perch on the fence running along side me. As I reached the bird, it just turned to me, and didn't fly away. Then it hopped a few inches ahead of me. I said hi there, and kept walking and the bird didn't quite follow me... it more kept pace with me. A few chirps beside me on the top of the fence as we walked together. It kept looking at me and I laughed. This went on for like... forty feet. Then it stopped and watched me as I crossed the street. The bird had a bit of breakfast in its beak, and I told it to enjoy its breakfast as I smiled all the way home.
"You are always breaking the rules, no matter what society you're in. You don't get along with ordinary criminals either, which is why you are constantly getting in trouble!"
"You think following the rules will buy you a nice life, even if the rules make you a slave."
I've been working all night, fighting back the need to puke. Not from being sick, but from learning things I was made to feel crazy for worrying over, I was right about from the start. That in fact, it was much worse than i imagined, and what little luck was had, that incredible, irresponsible close call by another, just turns every cell in my body inside out. I was lucky to have a friend nearby, but I didn't get over it like I thought. I was still processing the reality. I can't think.
Do you know that feeling: You ever walk into your kids' room and note the quiet? Admiring the half-finished models and strewn about toys? Note books still open and unfinished sentences just waiting for the crayon to continue writing? The plushies still meticulously arranged together to look in one direction as if welcoming you back from a long trip? Maybe... you yearn for just that millionth and one unexpected hug that won't come just because you wish it?
