Father (a night terror that began when i was 6)

(In this terror, I am an invisible 3rd party. Watching younger self.) I need to add that I was never allowed to watch scary movies as a child because of my night terrors. There is nothing feeding this dream but my own insanity.

I am a small child again. Sleeping soundly in my purple walled bedroom. I can see my old room perfectly even now, 23 years later. My day bed is pushed up against the west wall, not quite reaching the door. There is a window above me and one on the east wall overlooking the rolling hills and the many various trees that adorn them. It was raining, causing a river to flow in the valley that was my backyard. I could hear the rain pounding on my windows even while silent in slumber. I watched myself sleeping there, curled into a ball up against the corner with my many pillows surrounding me like a protective soft barricade. I've always slept in odd positions. As I watched the small me sleep, I noticed a strange black figure climb to the outside of the window above the child's head. I watched as it slit the screen down the middle with one sharp claw like a knife through butter. It gently slid my window open and poked its head inside. I was instantly terrified. It looked like a human sized black cat with bright green eyes and a smirk that reminded me of a hunter about to catch its dinner for the evening. It slid its human sized body into the window. I could see it fully now, It was stealthy as a feline panther, but it had muscles, feet and hands like a human man. He grinned as he watched the child breathing heavy while sleeping. His claws were like daggers breaching out of the fur that covered his hands. He crept upon the bed, careful not to wake the child until he was ready to pounce. And then, he did. He snatched her up by her dark curly hair, forcing her to her feet. She was 6 years old maybe, she barely came up to his thighs in height. He was much taller than I had thought. He screamed at her with a high pitched hiss. She began to cry and scream and as her little pitch grew he put his other hand over her mouth.

He pulled her to the bedroom door and yanked her out into the hallway. She was trying to fight, her tiny legs kicking in the air as he forced her into her mothers room. He threw her onto the floor but never let go of her hair. He dragged her towards her step-fathers side of the bed and with no warning, he drove his claws into the eyes of her step-father, slinging blood and brains across her face as he massacred him. He smiled a vain thick smile and proceeded to the other side of the bed where her mother lay helpless in shock. He grabbed her mother by her hair and swung the child helplessly into his arm. He pulled them both into the kitchen and threw them on the cold vinyl flooring. The mother cradled the child in her arms, trying to protect her from this massive demon that was not supposed to exist. He licked his fingers and claws clean of the mans blood as if he were stalling, trying to decide what he was going to do with the females that they before him, huddled into a frozen mass. He went to the child first, and kissed her on the forehead. He whispered, "I do love you my only daughter" and swiftly yanked the mother to her feet. He said to the girl, "You're mother must pay for what she has done and I am the one who will give her the punishment that she gave me". He wrapped his hand around the mothers neck tightly, he squeezed her throat, cutting off any air that may have been supplied to her lungs. She clutched his massive hand as he took his sharps claw and split her from the throat to her abodmine. Blood, guts and every organ in her body broke free from its fleshy prison, spilling onto the white vinyl, spilling onto the sobbing child's night gown and spilling over his own black body. He began to cry briefly as he watched the child scream in horror. MOMMY, MOMMY, MOMMY was all she screamed. He dropped the mothers body to the ground, limp and lifeless. He picked up the heart that lay in its own blood and slowly walked away.

The Gown: A reoccuring night terror that I have, for your viewing pleasure.

It was cold outside, but extremely sunny. The kind of sunny where you have to squint your eyes to see a few feet in front of you. I've always been one to want to get married outside. There's something about a brisk wind and fall leaves that have ensnared me. I'm sitting in my families 1930's 3 story home in the country. Its a pale grayish blue with white windows. It smells like butter and fresh baked cake mixed with lilacs blossoms and roses. Very tender. It's almost movie like to me, how I'm sitting in front of a very old floor length mirror that has a bit of haze from dust on it. I'm wearing a stunning white and pearl wedding dress that is backless. I've also never been one for gaudy objects either, no frills, lace or diamonds. I stand to admire myself, my hair half up with curls falling gently around my face and down to the bodess of the gown. I touch my shoulders lightly and shudder. "Maybe I should have gotten a wrap" I said to myself. I walked down the creaky stairs; the wall lining it was full of old pictures of woman dressed like me or men carrying their weapons like they were proud to be murderers. The front door was open and I could hear the sounds of my family as they awaited my arrival. I wondered if HE were out there too, waiting impatiently like I was. I was barefoot. I stepped outside into the glorious sunlight, letting it fill my green eyes like a prism catching light to make a rainbow. I walked onto the grass which was a little pale compared to my eyes, feeling the soft wetness of it in between my toes and tickling the bottom of my feet. A fresh morning dew was always a good way to start the day, especially MY day. I slowly walked to the back yard, were I could smell the crispness of fall leaves and dying trees in my nostrils. I loved that smell. Death.

I walked towards the backyard, letting the sound of Mozart, coming from somewhere unknown, fill my ears with its sweet melody. "Requiem", I said aloud. I approached the back with delight fulfilling my senses. Straight ahead was a simple looking table with a crimson table cloth spread gently across it. At each side were humongous pumpkins standing at least 3 feet tall each. On top of the lovely shaded cloth were an array of tiger lilies, roses and babies breath. In front of the table was an antique looking red carpet runner with either side of adorned by candles. I guessed to hold it from being blown away by the wind. There were about fifty black chairs split into 25 on each side of the carpet. I squealed with delight and spun around to find my family to thank them with gratitude. I spun almost 3 times, not finding one soul. Where were they? My mother? My sisters? Where was he? I tried to stop the tears from welling into my grassy green eyes, but to my discouragement, the more I tried to stop, the more they fell. I called to them, my voice muffled by the music that was now steadily getting louder.

And then, as if I were a child, my attention grew curious to the winding path I saw up on the hill adorned with decaying leaves. I slowly walked up the hill to find my feet on a dirt path. It was winding like a top spinning. Spinning down, down and down some more to where I almost couldn't see the bottom. My curiosity consumed me. I walked slowly down the path, becoming a bit dizzy with the motion of walking in circles. As I neared the end, I could see something moving. Was it alive? A creature? I crept very carefully down to the last bit of the path until I came to a stop. I found there, a liter of small cat sized puppies. They were black and had indented noses but broad wide jaws; "Almost pug like" I thought to myself. I bent down, trying not to get my dress dirty and pulled one to me. I picked her up, gently stroking her silky fur with my pale fingers. She cooed in my arms, nudging me with her sweet nose. I felt a sense of peace wash over me until I heard it. I stood still, letting the creature leap to the ground. It was low, angry and ready to fight. I turned my head slowly and saw her standing there. Small like her babies but much older in the face. It was the protector. The mother. She growled at me, baring her strange set of teeth at me. It was as if she was half shark. Her mouth opened to reveal several saliva glistened rows of razor sharp teeth. All of which had the taste for me. I slowly backed away, never looking into her eyes but never taking mine off of her body. I thought I had become a comfortable distance and then I turned to run. She was quick and unsatisfied by the thought of me leaving. She was hungry and ready to feed. I felt her hot saliva on the back of my tendon as her teeth buried themselves into my tender tendon of my right foot. I cried in agony but never stopped running. I could hear her heart pounding as she ran after me, up the winding dirt path that led me to her. I hadn't realized how steep it was on the way down. And then, as if she were suddenly afraid of me, she stopped and ran back down. Her babies trying to keep up with us had turned to follow her as if they were playing a game. I was thankful and trying to catch my breath. I barely noticed the blood gushing from my ankle. I walked the rest of the way limping. I noticed that the sky had turned a deep gray and clouds were rolling in like billowy winds. I looked up to the sun, it was almost completely blacked out now. There were thousands of large bird like creatures swarming the skies with their bat like wings. I could only imagine that they were hunting. Panic stretched across my body. I couldn't see anywhere to hide. It began to rain and with each drop I felt my skin begin to burn slightly. I covered my eyes as I looked up into the sky again so that I wouldn't burn them too. In the distance, I could see an old fashioned swing set. The kind made out of wood and that had a thick canopy over it. I decided to run for it, I didn't want to be burned by the rain and I didn't want one (or more) of the creatures to find me. As I ran, it spotted me. It's prey for the moment. My heart raced as I ran. My blood pumping in my veins pumped in his ears as well. I couldn't get a scream, not that there was anyone to hear them. I slid under the wooden seat of the swing, pulling my body in just as the creature opened his mouth to snatch me. I breathed hard and shallow. I hadn't prepared for came next. The bird, with its smooth black skin, black eyes and 10 foot wing span jumped on top of the swing, instantly crushing me under the wooden seat. I heard the wood splinter and break and then I heard something else break. My ribs had split under the pressure of the wood pressing me into the earth. I couldn't breath, couldn't think and then it came. The pain. The pain of my lung being punctured by my ribs. Blood spilled from my mouth as I tried to breath. Tears willingly spilled from eyes but no sound could be made. I was drowning in my own life. My blood spilling helplessly over my face and down to my dress.

And then, as if they were never there, the creatures, the clouds, the acid rain all were gone without a trace. My pain was real, certainly real but it was as if I done this to myself. There was no other explanation. I slowly squeezed out from under the splinter wood, crawling with my hands, clutching the green grass that matched my eyes for aide. I made it as far as the hill. Laying there, looking down on the decorations, I could hear the sweet sound of Mozart. I could see my decorations just as lovely as they were a short while ago, and then there HE was. My love. Dressed in a black suit with a crimson tie. He was patiently looking at his watch and back to the house. I couldn't talk, couldn't squeak even. I lay there, broken, tattered and covered in my crimson blood. I closed my eyes and thought of his last kiss as I drifted off to sleep.
