Round 2

Times Read: 694

I have had an issue with this song for years. It wasn't just spawned by an earlier conversation today. (see previous entry) So, for your reading pleasure, I resurrect a fully detailed position on the song 'Ironic' (cough*cough*) by Alanis Morrisette.

That stupid fucking song goes through my head whenever I hear the word 'ironic' and I should sue both Alanis Morrisette and the Canadian goverment over the entire issue. And by the way, NO: its not irony, Alanis, many other things, but not irony. Case (s) in point:

Statement: It's like rain on your wedding day.

Fact: This is not irony. Many people like rain and would have no problem with it happening on their wedding day. The entire population of Seattle is not single because of the overwhelming tragedy of rain on a wedding day.

Statement: It's a free ride, when you've already paid.

Fact: This is not irony. This is stupidity and an incredible error in your dumbass logic. If you have already paid, then the ride isn't free. Why didn't you just call this fucking song "duh"? Also, if you don't have to pay for a bus ride and you are to busy looking grunge glamourous to notice and you pay anyway, then you deserve to pay again, stupid bitch.

Statement: It's the good advice that you just didn't take.

Fact: This is not irony. This is arrogance. On the other hand, many people consider that disregarding good advice is a good way to learn life lessons, yet here you are trying to destroy the valuable and far too few hours spent educating our youth in the proper use of the English language. Fie on you, Alanis.

Statement: It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.

Fact: This is not irony. It is evidence that you are a neanderthal. Turn the fucking spoon on its side and cut, ape lady.

Statement: It's a black fly in your chardonnay.

Fact: This is not irony: This is because you are eating in a border cantina where people barely make a dollar a day, and here you sit bitching about your drink. They do not serve chardonnay in over the border shit holes like the one you are eating in. You are probably holding a glass of pee. Enjoy your fly though.

OK, now I have myself worked up over this and need to go write my petition to sue, while it is still fresh and damaging. Alanis Morrissette quit whining.

Is it ironic that between these last two posts you've made this song a touch more famous?

Or is the irony that it's now more infamous?!

As an absolute authority on all things irony related, perhaps the irony is in the fact that a song called "Isn't it ironic" has nothing ironic in it.

The song annoys me too.

A Change of Pace

Wow! The new term has kicked off with a bang! (so to speak) Just been super busy trying to get everything caught up and in order. I do better when things are well ordered. That aside, one of the most important conversations I had today was about important songs that contribute to greater "culture" or society.

It focused around the Alanis Morrisette song "Ironic". I hate this song. Not only are the lyrics tri...ok I am digressing, the point is...the things she is singing about are NOT by definition "ironic"...unfortunate perhaps. In the case of the fly in her Chardonay, for example, it would be difficult to refute she had been a victim of bad service; but ironic? No. This song has single-handedly misinformed a generation of people about the subtle and most unique circumstances surrounding true irony.

The incredibly stupid Gewn Stefani song that teaches you how to spell bananas, on the other hand, incredibly practical from a utilitarian point of view.

Although it could be considered ironic that a song about irony does not have any... just sayin'...

*big innocent eyes* don't hit me for saying that

Beef-What's Not For Dinner

We are not vegetarians by ethical choice, certainly not vegan, we just don't eat much red meat because there are more effective ways to fuel ones body. At any rate, we felt it would be very American to have hamburglars on the 4th of July, and then we had a steak yesterday.

And today, we both have tummyaches. Fie on those stupid cows that I so graciously ate.

You know Morrigon, my bother says the same thing. Their family actually raises a couple of cows a year on her parents land, and thats what they use. I guess its just gonna come down to that..god knows I dont need early onset alzheimers/mad cow disease. Poo.

Store-bought beef I can handle..... it's the ground beef I have a problem with.

Plus, it's so much more tasty to grind your own.

Especially using trim from the tenderloin left over from the last time I made Wellingtons. :)

Keeping Up With The PWNses

18:12 Jul 04 2009
Times Read: 787

I know I am moving into a phase of my life where I am going to be pissing off my family for different reasons and it does not feel happy.

My mom has had this family vacation planned for about a whole year now and its very important to her. I got a new job that we moved for a few months ago and it kicks into a different "phase" on Monday. Vacation days are regulated, just like anywhere else, and I dont have them yet.

I have literally had the thought...should I quit my job to go on a week's vacation? It's a ridiculous thought but I don't want my mom to be upset. Obviously I won't quit over this, but I am somewhat annoyed and a little resentful about the guilt trip. =(

And god, dont even get me started about my sister....

You'll have plenty of weeks to see your family, but good jobs are scarce right now, think with the brain and not the heart on this one. Just my 2 cents...

Your mom has to understand, especially in today's economy, you can't sacrifice something that could be essential to your survival for a pleasure trip just because it's important to someone else.

I don't think you should quit your job... and I think if your mom really looks at the situation, she wouldn't want you to quit your job to take a vacation either.

Guilt trips.....suck and Moms are excellent at them. However, I have found that for my Mom, I listen to her and then do what I need or want to do anyway. Over the years, it has gotten easier. Or I have developed a thicker skin.....not sure which.

Good luck!

Your mom should understand right now with the economici situation the way it is. Jobs are hard to find now a day's as well. Besides there will be plenty of other vacations that you can take and spend time with your family. Hope that all goes well. hugs
