I have read on the VR forums that others believe goth is dead, that real goth no longer exists, just fools who believe they are goth.
I refuse to believe that I am some fool that thinks I am goth. As far as I'm concerned, the label itself doesn't matter but the fact that people still shout that name at me shows I have been labelled that and if that is the label I am to be given for the way I act and dress by other people, I am aggravated by others with the same label calling younger ones fools.
Younger people are considered ignorant for not knowing the full background of goth when they are supposed to be them. I on the other hand, hardly thing you need to research the past of the label you've been given to actually be it. It's about who you are, not what you know. I'm not some stupid ass kid shouting out to everyone I'm goth. I just try to be myself.
I'm not some idiot trying to take the label and change it to fit me, I love the old gothic style, especially the old victorian style. Every generation is bound to be different, the musicians change, and people grow differently, the clothing companies change but it is not the fault of the individual that goth is not the way that it is remembered. The original style may be lacking from what it was but there are still people who really believe that goth will not ever die. Where I am from, I have met very few "goths" and that's because people here aren't pretending to be goths, they are actually the last few left here and it's a shame because it's a way of life that I love.
