As the trees collapse their fingers,
As the grass browns in light,
As the plants and world withers,
The darkness holds our sight,

The veil thins as cold breath whispers,
The crow calls and the chill gathers,
The sky does grey as the trees fall,
The harvest brings the last call,

What did the cold scream in old days,
What did you do when the day goes away,
What life would you hold to for thirty average years,
What games did you enjoy instead of careers,

The goblins and specters come as the food goes away,
The dark hearts of humans are seen when compulsions at play,
The cherry on top of the wicked that can come,
When snow and death grip the land your from,

So the old lady will always be there to let fly,
The hope for next year comes from inside,
The liminnal space for many could mean a threat to die,
But the respect for other's who passed to other side,

The masks bring out the animal side,
The candy the last treat of the ride,
The scares of what comes from our mind,
And the neighborly act to bring us together in kind,

So if you dance in the Grove with henbane,
If you fight off the wicked with church to gain,
If you are feeling that rush of madness insane,
It all can be released on the holliest day,

Carve your turnips,
Carve your gourds,
Feel the touch of death on your door,
Share with each other before the long snow is in store,
Happy Halloween,
Hallows eve,
And let the magic steer your mind clear,

For the queens of earth will rush out to the night,
The hounds will howl bringing fright,
The cats eyes will gleam in their sight,
Intoxication will still be in light,

So are we different from our ancestors dancing in craze,
Not at all we are just as a tide to the foggy haze,
That tales us back around the fire and daze,

Samhain comes for us to enjoy,
So light a candle,
Have a drink,
Put on a mask,

As it might be our last...
