Funniest coincidences...

17:30 Mar 21 2008
Times Read: 1,073

I was just thinking about how I need to get back in training. I've put on about ten pounds in the last six months. Some jeans fit a little more snugly than they once did...

Anyway, just milling around on VR and someone comes to the door. A Karate instructor is setting up a new class in the area. He's coming back in a couple of hours.

I've never tried my hand at the Japanese martial arts, and I always said that if I did, it would be Aikido.

But still, it'll get me out of the house. And maybe help me not get beaten up by a little girl when I get to Nawlins. lol ;)

So, I signed up for Go Kan Ryu Karate. First class is next Tuesday night.

It's a very large and popular school. I'm interested mainly because there's nothing else around here of any real quality.

I'm probably going t find it a little strange going from a Chinese discipline to a Japanese one, where I even have to buy a new Ghee as well.

I should be able to make the grade for an Orange belt before I move to Nawlins. Hopefully, I can find a class over there, but the nearest one looks like it's in Houston...

I am not officially looking forward to beating up a British man who knows tai chi. It will sound much better to all my friends when I tell them I have beaten a grown man who has studied tai chi and karate! Thank you for your challenge! i am waiting your arrival.

War, huh!? What is it good for!?

00:01 Mar 20 2008
Times Read: 1,135

I posted this as a comment in someone else's journal, but I really should have put it here;

I read today that Bushy boy said that there had been "a major strategic victory in the broader war on terror".

Interesting perspective. One which I doubt is shared by the rest of the world, nor the Iraqi people themselves.

It's my current opinion, backed up today by another of his quotes, that: "Defeating this enemy in Iraq will make it less likely we will face this enemy here at home", is that the Iraq invasion was a quick and dirty way of drawing Jihadists into a battlefield far from America.

The war was pre-planned a long way in advance of the fundamentally flawed British 'dossier' of evidence on WMD, by Wolfowitz and Cheney, both as a means to pre-empt a influx of 'terrorist' to the continental USA, and as a money-making scheme for such conglomerations as Kellog, Root, Brown, various petroleum companies and the American military industrial complex, including Lockheed Martin.

After a decade of sanctions and air strikes, Iraq was a 'soft target' and the US Administration, being fed false information by Iraqi exiles and flawed intelligence, driven by 'neo-conservative hawks', who themselves have vested interests in those organisation most likely to benefit financially, saw an opportunity and they jumped right in to the 'quagmire' that Saddam Hussein predicted.

It almost smacks of the 'infinite crusade' that Bush declared shortly after the Afghanistan invasion, which was hurriedly changed for fear of betraying what many theorise is an actual ideological religious war, hidden under the facades of capitalism, terror and imperialism.

Foolish people.

21:17 Mar 15 2008
Times Read: 1,223

Interesting how the psyche of people who are hurting works.

Sometimes, they lash out at people who have done no harm to them. Perhaps they see them as a punch bag that won't hit back, because they actually care.

In this state of mind, it is often the case that they will attempt to shift blame from themselves onto others. They cannot take responsibility for the choices they made, which brought them to a situation where they got hurt. It's hard to face and accept when mistakes are your own.

So, instead of being an honourable person, they begin to twist the truth, then insert a lie, then create a web of lies, which soon becomes their false, schizophrenic version of reality.

Some people on VR need to recognize their own failures and stop trying to lay the cause of their problems at other peoples feet.

Running the gauntlet.

This story is very upsetting.

Sadly, this isn't a rare event. Kids are ostracised and bullied for their choice of lifestyle. Not just Goth, but they are a prime target.

Eight years ago, I was on my way back from a pub with my ex girlfriend, when she decided it would be a great idea to barge through a group of trendy girls.

It's a Saturday night, kicking out time and we're in the middle of the City centre of Bristol. For someone wearing Black and having drunk a few pints of Guinness, it's a minefield of beered up twats looking for a fight, mostly because they failed to entice a cheap tramp to go home and share venereal disease with.

So, the next thing I remember, is that I'm standing in the middle of the road, blood pouring down my face, with some 6' 6" metaller guy I've never seen before next to me.

I still have no memory about the fight, but at least I was still standing at the end of it. Apparently, the girlies had their trendy boyfriends with them and they didn't take kindly to my ex's attitude.

The cops turned up and did nothing. Didn't even give me a ride home. We walked back with this other guy and I got some vague details. Not sure how many there were, but we know at least four, probably more.

If not for this other guy jumping in with me, they would have kicked the shit out of me. This is alcohol fuelled hatred from angry, bored and moronic people, who pride themselves in the level of violence which they can inflict.

Society is fundamentally breaking down, if it isn't already at a point of collapse. They drink to escape the mundanity of their lives, looking to reach the excesses in order satisfy the critical lack of self-worth they suffer from.

I pity them, since to retain my hate and anger, only allows them to affect my life negatively. I have no doubt that they still follow the same ritual today. Or have been replaced by empty souled clones.

This story genuinely brings me to tears and anger, but I live in hope.

It's sad but true; society is crumbling and falling at a very fast rate. More and More kids are being subjected to this not only by peers, but by parents, family and those they look to for support, as well. Just like you've said too, anger and hate is the way most of them escape; drugs, and criminal activity also being used for such purposes as well. I believe, that those that truly understand this, are the only ones that can help change and hopefully keep society from crumbling.

Nightgame
Nightgame
01:24 Mar 13 2008

It is truly heartbreaking no matter what group was attacked. Human beings are our own worst enemy and for some reason even knowing that we continute down the horrible path of destruction. I fear unless a complete re-organization of how we raise and teach and treat the youth changes there is very little hope at all. I'm extremely glad that fellow was there and was willing to stand against injustice.

KCRC
KCRC
02:17 Mar 13 2008

This is heartbreaking.

I can't understand why people react violently just because someone is "different". This is no different than the lynch mobs against blacks in the Southern U.S. in the past, Gay bashing or any other hate crimes.

I have no idea how parents are raising these kids. If my kids even verbalized this kind of hatred I would sit them down and set them straight.

Flannery
Flannery
03:02 Mar 13 2008

This is truly tragic, no matter what the group. This division between human beings is what, as you said, is causing so much turmoil in the world. Just look at what differences in religion are causing us--world-wide war and division. People fail to realize that what unifies us, our humanity, is much more significant than these minor details of dress, skin, or personal philosophy.

It really angers me sometimes how incompassionate some people are, and how truly blinded by ignorance.

I hope those kids are tried as adults and sentenced to some severe time in jail. I think the parents should be investigated too.

How cheeky is it to copy another society's mark?

When I first saw that XxPanthraXx, Master of The Coven of Mourning Shadow, had done this, I was a little bit annoyed.

It's not that the icon is copyright to me, but it's just bad taste, unoriginal and a bit rude, in my opinion.

Will it be changed? Who knows, but I think that graphics really should be unique to each society.

A day in the life of a Dominar

After logging in, it's habit to have a quick check of who's in my last ten, just in case someone interesting pops up, or I get a bomb from a member aggrieved that I closed their thread.

A look at the queues for the polls and articles, which can lead to some reading time, where an article is checked for spelling, grammar and plagiarism, with a bit of wrangling over the polls, most of which are denied because of stupidity of bad English.

Then I have a look for journal comments. Perhaps the highlight of my time here, is getting to read responses to my own thoughts, since I barely get anything legible or constructive from the forum.

Then I pass my eye over The Forum link, before I quickly put it off a little longer, to have a check on recent journals. Skim through and hope for something amazing and wonderful. It can and does happen. I found an awesome poet just yesterday this way. I am very hopeful that this person will take an interest in our Coven.

Then it's over to the favourite journals. The only place I can be sure that I won't be assaulted with appalling grammar and obnoxious drama. Unfortunately, not everyone updates on a regular basis, so I often bemoan their lack of willingness to express their deepest most meaningful thoughts for my personal delight. (sic)

Then I peek into the vamp box. Usually, I don't have to pay that much attention to it, but recently I've taken a special measure to monitor it. There are predators here that need to be identified and prevented from harming other members.

It surprises me sometimes at how the demographic has changed so dramatically over the last couple of years, so that the majority are now teenagers and most of them are female.

It then sickens me when men take it upon themselves to interact with these children in a very inappropriate fashion. I'm also really disappointed when mature men think it's a good idea to post their ugly pornographic stories in their journal and then let girls know they have done so. Very nasty.

Well, that aside, I move on, a sense of dread rising to beat me upside the head, because here I go, gas mask on and stun baton at the ready. Where did I put my shield? Ah, there it is...

Now, I'm ready for a bit of police brutality.

The Forum. Hundreds of threads frequented by thousands of people daily. And although there are thirteen names on lockers back at the station, the van looks awfully empty on our way down to the front line.

We pile out, and form a line. Which is more of a truncated hyphen, across the boards. Usually, I start with the Mascara section, since it gets the least traffic. Close maybe a few and delete a handful of posts. No big trouble in there.

The events, generally, the troublemakers stay out of there, since they don't get a lot of attention. No audience, you see.

The sandbox. Well, it's where the cat does the business, so all I do there, is empty the tray after they forget about the little poops.

The top section. Okay, we move in slow, usually lurking, operating with ninja stealth to remove the most annoying. Breaking cover only to close off a repetition or identify a bit of plagiarism.

Mostly, it's a case of delete, delete, delete. Some days, it tops a hundred. Others, the strain is too much and I capitulate before I've hit fifty.

But there, people mostly make an effort, but when a troll pops up, there's a need to carefully beat it over the head in such a way that it is both final, yet polite at the same time.

I actually prefer it when they're a fair distance over the line, because then I get to use a tazer. Close to the line, I have to rely on the cattle prod. Pokey pokey. Often, they run off for a while, then another wave comes in and we have to form a phalanx. Unfortunately, it's more like 3, than 300, so it's a good thing they aren't too smart, otherwise we'd be overwhelmed in no short order. If they had an army like the Persians, I'm not sure we'd survive that.

Unless we took off and nuked the site from orbit. Only way to be sure. Damn Aliens.

So, it is a happy time when I look out and see a fresh clean board;

A clean Forum
