I plan to make a pilgrimage to the New York City neighborhood, the East Village, where punk rock was born. I'm doing some research on locations that still have some significance. Unfortunately, the two major rock clubs, CBGB and Max's Kansas City are long gone. However, you can still visit Manitoba's Bar and Trash & Vaudeville.
There are also a few Goth stores in the East Village; Vampire Freaks Store, Enchantments Inc, and Gothic Renaissance.
I'll also want to visit the famous bookstores; Strand Bookstore and St. Mark's Bookshop.
I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC on Saturday. I saw the famous Temple of Dendur and their immense collection of Egyptian relics. Given how fond the Gothic community is of Egyptian imagery, you would have thought this would make quite an impression upon me. Unfortunately, I found the temple and the statues of gods to be quite lifeless in a museum setting. The temple would have been eerie and evocative if it were half buried in a desert, an ancient site in the desolation. But it was in a huge gallery with all the charm of a warehouse. It is kind of sad that a sacred place is transported to New York City where it just becomes a tourist attraction.
I also visited the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Neue Galerie. The Neue Galerie is my favorite museum because it looks like a mansion and the artwork does not look out of place there.

THAT'S the name of that temple! I could not remember! thanks!
Oh and I have to agree... that museum is only good with the right guide, and it's nothing they offer there
