Dawn. The suns first rays appeared to scorch the horizon as Dreko stood there among the bloodbath from the battle that waged for five days. The bodies were strewn everywhere, slaughtered and burnt with the retched stench of decay. In the distance the city was in ruins, burnt to its foundations, smoke still rising from the dying flames.
Hmm... they were warned... he thought to himself as he walked through the dead towards the city.
In the distance Dreko could see a small group on horseback heading in his direction. Slowly but surely they reached Dreko, stopping him without hesitation.
'You there! What in the hell happened here?!'
Dreko looked the man dead in the eye. 'They didn't like the fact that I was in their city, so they arrested me. I was taken before the Lord and that's when the day turned to shit. All the lord had to say was "You will leave immediately or you will be executed!" So, I just laughed at him and said "bring it on, you'll all die" and that was five days ago.'
'You mean to tell me that you single handedly slaughtered a city of ten thousand people, simply for your own amusement?'
Dreko laughed. 'Pretty much, yeah.'
'You would've needed an army of thousands and yet you expect us to believe your little tale. Fine, humour us with the fact of how.'
Dreko just grinned at them and then grew a pair of Dragon wings with a twelve foot wing span. Launching into the air he soared around and swooped down towards the others. Frozen in disbelief the men could only stare as Dreko let loose a gigantic breath of fire that engulfed a stretch of field one hundred and twenty feet long. The only sound was the bloodcurdling cries of the men as they and their horses burnt to death. Dreko then stood at the edge of the flames watching them try to escape the agony of their own deaths.
'That gentlemen, is how.' He said as he roared into laughter, taking flight once more into the distance and onto his next bit of fun.
As Daniel walked along the streets he watched as the people around him went about their lives as though they were about to end, rushing to get where they were going. He pitied them in a way, but at the same time he laughed at how they lived for a purpose. He used to be like that, not anymore. Daniel went through life as most people do, forever seeing the brighter side and the rewards of good deeds until he was confronted with the cruel truth that is life.
His wife and daughter were taken from him almost three years ago, murdered for no reason other than the emotional breakdown of a young man. Since then Daniel has faded into a hollow shell of his former self, taking each day as a curse that he still lives and his family is gone. Although his grief is killing him slowly he cannot bring himself to the option that so many take by killing himself to stop the pain, instead he lives amongst the rest of society looking to decay the heart and soul of optimism and joy. This is all that matters to him now.
