Goodbye Ollie

23:46 Oct 28 2006
Times Read: 724

A few months ago I wrote about one of my cats being diagnosed with FIV (the feline version of HIV). In the last hour I found out Ollie, a beautiful ginger with a lovely personality, has died. I've living at a university in another country now with another seven weeks to go until I'm home for Christmas and I was already missing my animals like mad.

Apparently Ollie went out last night and didn't come home. Today he was found dead in our neighbour's garden. His heart had given out.

During the past week his breathing had been bad but the rare form of mange with which he was afflicted was finally improving. It made his right ear look like it had been mauled and the vets had never seen it in a cat previously. Despite his medical problems, he loved life and was not suffering so badly that week thought it would be kinder to put him to sleep.

If you've ever lost an animal, you know how I'm feeling right now. I loved him a lot and it hurts so much to know that I'm not even going to get a chance to say goodbye properly. He's the first of our cats that we have never had to make the decision about ending their life. Previously, they were only put down when there suffering was too great and it wasn't fair to keep them alive any longer. It seems that Ollie may have made the decision for us.

So what can I tell you about Ollie?

Well, he was a really sweet and gentle ginger cat who turned up at our house one day about eight years ago, as so many of them do, and never left again. He could talk, specifying his favourite foods and demanding them when he felt like it. He could say ham, prawn and yummy very distinctly as well as the less clear turkey and chicken. He loved his milk, snatched ham and devoured it in under two seconds and came running if he though there might be food for him. He loved the garden and is going to be buried under his favourite bush. Ollie was a wonderful cat and I just want to say goodbye to him, wherever he may be.

So farewell Ollie. I love you and will always miss you.

Apparently I have a cute sneeze.

My new desktop printer looks like a bread bin.

On Friday the 13th of October the number of people who have added me to their friends lists increased to thirteen.

Hurrah, it's Friday the thirteenth and it's October. Not long to Halloween now. Today has always been lucky for me. Unfortunately one of my flatmates is not having a good day and it's only lunch time. Bring on Halloween.

University

Well, I've been at uni for a week and a half now and despite my greatest fears, I have returned safely to VR. Though it has taken the full time since my arrival to gain entry, I now have wireless internet access in my room and I have never been happier. (Well, I probably have but don't spoil the moment.)

Night all.
