Seeing the previews for "The World Trade Center" got me thinking. I'm a fan of equal representation, not in that specific regard, but on a general scale. Independent media circulation is minimal, so we must rely on larger scale media outlets like news and cinema (magazines etc, I'm not focussed on printed/written media atm) to relay/provide relatable information on the world around us. In that light, there are a plethora of movies out there that depict American tragedies (or Hollywood versions of), but there are few that depict tragedies involving other counties (in proportion). I decided to do some research as I'm not really a movie fan, so it was quite possible that there are more out there that I wasn't aware of. So far, I have compiled the following list, and was hoping to add to it.
Schindler's List
Das Boot (not based on true account)
Enemy At the Gates (fiction)
Braveheart
The Longest Day (involves americans)
The Killing Fields (involves americans, but depicts cambodians)
Lawrence of Arabia
Dr. Zhivago
The Battle of Algiers - Criterion Collection
The Battle for Warsaw
Kino-Eye/ Three Songs Of Lenin
Attila '74 - The Rape of Cyprus (1975)
Mein Krieg - My Private War (1991)
THE WINTER WAR (Talvisota)
I am considering opening this up for a forum discussion, but am not quite sure if it will be properly recieved/of interest to the forum dwellers. If you have suggestions for the list, or would like to make it available in the forum, please message me.
