NellMorgan: hi
Phedre: hello
NellMorgan: how are you
Phedre: Fine, yourself?
NellMorgan: im ok
Phedre: Do you have a side?
NellMorgan: in what way]
Phedre: *smiles* the topic
Phedre: It speaks as to who's side you are on
Phedre: it was meant for a question of one's ethics and such.
NellMorgan: interesting
NellMorgan: i try to live my life the best way i can and try not to hurt people. thats all i can do
Phedre: Here is the situation between the two: Light is a high school/college student who found a way to kill people with a note book. L is the detective who believes killing criminals is wrong, which, is what Light was using it for.
Phedre: The question would be this: is it right, or is it wrong, to kill criminals even when the justice system did not find them guilty?
NellMorgan: light sounds like a dexter type. the juscice system fails, so i see how vigalantis feel. i cant say i miss rapists being killed but i couldnt do the killing myself. it poses an interesting topic though
Phedre: you can understand how they feel but do you agree with the killing of criminals? think, he would be doing it until crime rate was completely gone. he would be taking out the big ones first, and then, take out smaller ones down to those who rob a place and whatnot, until there was no more crime left because everyone was too afraid to do such things.
Phedre: it would create a world full of fear.
NellMorgan: idepends on the criminal
NellMorgan: each case is unique
NellMorgan: and how does light know the person is even guilty
Phedre: he doesn't see it that way. all are criminals, all are causing the world to rot. he treats them all the same
Phedre: he doesn't.
Phedre: people who were tried and were not convicted are also guilty in his eyes
NellMorgan: but he himself is a criminal
Phedre: by what means?
NellMorgan: thus hed have to kill himslef
Phedre: yes, but he saw himself as the world's new god, passing righteous judgement over others because the justice system fails
Phedre: he didn't see it as actually doing the crime of mass murder
NellMorgan: then light is worse thante criminals he hunts as he puts himslef higher than humanity
Phedre: correct.
NellMorgan: and someone who doesnt stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow man is a dangerous being and devoid of real human compassion
Phedre: the world, while he 'reigned' was torn. some saw him as a murderer, others saw him as their savior, because crime rates have gone down throughout the world because of the deaths
NellMorgan: but at waht price. were they even guilty. see this is is still apathy because it lacks compassion for taking a human life
NellMorgan: hi anon
Phedre: Hello, anonymous
Phedre: Most of them were guilty, I believe.
Phedre: At first, he started by looking at cases. other times, it were those on the news who were actively doing the act for which they were guilty
Phedre: the first one he got, was actively holding hostages at a school, and they were hoping to negotiate with him.
Phedre: he then looked up his father's files (his father was chief of police) to look at the criminals that were for no reason dropped before conviction, and went after them. then so on
NellMorgan: I think light just wants to justify a lust for killling as helping, but if he holds himslef higher, then he truelly can't realate or feel like humans do
Phedre: no, he justifies himself because he has a very strong sense of justice in a childish manner which caused him to think that the world should be rid of criminals.
Phedre: he held himself higher because it was, to his knowledge, he who was the only one in the world to hold the power of life and death over people while he had the death note.
NellMorgan: but he condradicts himself, for he too is a killer
Phedre: that kind of power would give anyone a sense of higher status
Phedre: is not then, the justice system, when they do capital punishment, guilty of murder?
NellMorgan: but that isnt 1 indivudual
Phedre: just because they are the government, they are human beings as well, should they have the right to say over another's life?
NellMorgan: the justice system isnt one person, its many
Phedre: here is my belief: no one has the right to take another life away from this world, for no one is more righteous than the other, and no one has any higher being of status in which one should be able to choose life or death over a person's life
Phedre: so, just because there are more, does that make killing another person right? there can be a group of murderers to kill their victim, is that still not murder?
NellMorgan: we no longer have death penalty in uk
NellMorgan: but usa still does
Phedre: yes, it is unfortunate that we still do.
NellMorgan: i wonder what goes throught the mind of the person who has to exacute the criminal
Phedre: but many people believe that the more major crimes, rape, murder, ect should be justified by killing the criminal... even then i do not see it that way. there is no equal way to justify his actions in this world
Phedre: they probably feel that sense of power as well.
Phedre: but then.... much of the world is very de-sensitized, so perhaps humanity is leaving this world as it is
NellMorgan: scary
Phedre: So..... you are on the side of L. *she grins*
NellMorgan: neither
Phedre: well... it's really either you believe criminals should die, or shouldn't die for their crimes, you can't really have a medium between life and death
NellMorgan: then no i dont believe they should
Phedre: if you are interested in this topic, the show is called death note, they also have a movie...well, three, actually.
NellMorgan: oo cool
NellMorgan: id find those interesting
Phedre: *smiles* i'm getting my husband to watch it with me, he is on the side of L
NellMorgan:
Phedre: huh...most do not go through this topic very quickly... so now i have to actually think what else to talk about
