On August 5, 1990, Melissa turned four years old. After clearing the breakfast table, she looked at the woman she admired most in the world, her heroine, with so much happiness and admiration. Melissa's mother always tried to make her daughter's life positive and told her: "Don't make your problem the problem, you are not a victim, you are strong, my daughter." Without saying anything else, she handed Melissa a brown paper package and sent her out.
Melissa was very happy and was jumping for joy. She went to her favorite tree and sat on the large branch near the front gate, beginning to tear up the paper impatiently. Her fingers were clumsy and the wrapping was thick, but the smell that emanated was very light, similar to that of the most famous toy store in the city of Naples. Melissa concluded that whatever was inside the package had miraculously been purchased and not homemade or handmade, like the rag dolls her grandmother used to give her.
