Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:7
I’ll never forget one time when my church decided to reach out to the community—to the poor, the needy, and the hurting. So we came up with the idea where we would give away clothing, money, and food to those who where in need.
Now it was one thing to hear about loving others. But it was a whole other thing to see that love put into action. People were so grateful to be blessed at their point of need. Tears flowed from the eyes of our volunteers as they were able to give in the name of Jesus Christ and love tangibly with the love of the Gospel.
I know so many Christians today who talk and talk about love, but never do anything to show it. They know the doctrines of love and sing songs about it, but they fail to add actions to their words. That’s not biblical love.
Real love doesn’t just sit on a church pew. Real love has hands. Real love has feet. It hugs the widow and comforts the orphan. It gives to the poor and defends the downtrodden. Real love moves you to action. That’s the love Jesus showed you, and it’s the love you can show others!
LOVE OTHERS NOT JUST WITH YOUR WORDS, BUT WITH A BIBLICAL LOVE THAT MOVES YOU TO ACTION!
We love because he first loved us.
1 John 4:19
It amazes me how little so many today really understand what love is. They equate love with infatuation. And nowhere has this taken hold more firmly than in the minds of our young people. I was reading some definitions of love that teenagers had given recently. One said, “Love is an inward inexpressibility of an outward all-overishness.” Another remarked, “Love is a feeling you feel when you feel you’re going to feel a feeling you never felt before.”
Now we may chuckle a little when we read those words, but we have to remember it’s not their fault they see love in such a shallow light. Our culture constantly feeds this misconception in our movies, music, and other media. These young people are simply regurgitating what they’ve been told!
But the truth is, love is not just a feeling... it’s a commitment. And while our world says, “I love you because of what you do for me,” real, biblical love says, “I love you because God first loved me.”
Real love loves after the infatuation is over. Love is when you’ve been staring at the same person over corn flakes for more years then you can count. It's after the butterflies stop fluttering in your stomach. So don’t let our culture tell you what love is. Love because of the love of Christ that’s in you!
DON’T JUST LOVE BECAUSE OF HOW PEOPLE MAKE YOU FEEL.
For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are.
1 Corinthians 1:26-28
Have you ever felt like you were powerless in the world, Like someone else is controlling the circumstances in your life, Like the powers that be have a something against you? Well, your not alone in that feeling. And your not from from wrong.
It sad but true fact that there are some many things that are held against you. You credit rating, your education, your belief, even your appearance, all are use by today's society to tell you where you belong and what you should do.
But society is dead WRONG. as our passage shows us today that God choices those that society deemed "inadequate" to shock and change the world. The Bible has shown this through it's history.
Believe it or not, the most celebrated people in the Bible were plagued by doubt, bad decisions, and less than perfect reputations. In a word, most were what society called losers! Bible figures such as Moses, Solomon, David, Thomas, Rahab, all would have been considered as undesirable. Heck. Rehab was a prostitute. and she was key to the fall of Jericho.
So don't let society dictate where and what you should do with your life. They only see the outside. and not what God has built inside you to do. All you have to do is trust Him and let it out.
THE WORLD DOESN'T SEE WHAT YOUR CAPABLE OF. SO DON'T LET THEM DECIDE WHAT YOU CAN DO.
