“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Micah 6:8
It was Edmund Burke who said, “All that’s necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good men to do nothing.” Sadly, this is all too true today, as many good people—yes, even Christians—sit on the sideline and do nothing about the injustice and pain that so pervade this world.
I sometimes wonder if the church has forgotten how to weep. When you see girls and ladies lined up for abortions, do you weep bitter tears of compassion? When you watch that television commercial about how we can help a child in need somewhere in the world, does it even faze you? When a family breaks up because of a divorce, are you also broken by that?
I think one thing that’s so noticeably missing among the people of God today is a deep sense of compassion and empathy for the hurting. One reason for this, I believe, is what psychologists call the L.I.A.R., the low information-to-action ratio, whereby we’re so inundated through media with news of suffering that it’s easy to begin to tune it out.
But don’t forget, people who suffer are real people. And as Christians, (or even non Christians) we need to show compassion. even to those we don't care. they are all people just like us. and just like us they sometimes need a shoulder to cry on or an ear to bend.
WITH SO MUCH PAIN IN OUR WORLD TODAY, LOOK FOR WAYS YOU CAN HELP ALLEVIATE THE SUFFERING OF OTHERS.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16
Do you realize that prayer makes a difference? Dr. Myron Jones shared this truth from the prize-winning physician, Alexis Carrel. In the early 19th century, Dr. Carrel’s research paved the way for organ transplants to start happening. And listen to what this esteemed doctor said regarding prayer:
“The influence of prayer on the human mind and body is as demonstrable as that of secreting glands. Its results can be measured in terms of increased physical buoyancy, greater intellectual vigor, moral stamina, and a deeper understanding of the realities underlying human relationship.”
Prayer works. And not only that, but when you pray for others, it gives both the one who prays and the one who is prayed for encouragement and hope knowing that others care for them. Yet, in our materialistic and secular world today, to believe in the supernatural is looked down upon. It’s almost as if we’re too enlightened today to believe in a “fairy tale” like that.
But the bottom line is that prayer is a matter of faith. It’s both through the faith of those who are prayed for and the faith of the ones who pray that God works to accomplish His plans and purposes. So pray for one another in faith and watch as God does something great!
PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER IN FAITH. GOD WILL WORK THROUGH IT TO ACCOMPLISH HIS PLANS AND PURPOSES!
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4
I heard about a little boy who was reading a Superman comic book. Well, it was late one night and his mother had already told him to turn out the light and go to bed. But he just couldn’t stand it, so he reached over and read the very end of the book and he found out that Superman defeated the villain, got the girl, and everything was just fine.
So that little boy closed the book and said, “All right, Superman, you’re going to be okay. I’ve read the end of the book!” He didn’t have any trouble getting to sleep once he knew that because all of his anxiety was completely gone once he knew how the story ended.
As Christians, you can also read the end of our story and discover there’s no more sin, no more sorrow, no more hurt, and no more pain for the former things have passed away. And the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms of Jesus Christ as He destroys sin, suffering, and Satan, and claims our ultimate victory for us!
That’s the kind of confidence you can have in Jesus Christ. You can pray believing in a God of might and a God of majesty who reigns now from heaven, and will one day finish the story as the victor with the faithful at His side!
IN CHRIST, YOU HAVE THE GUARANTEE OF VICTORY BECAUSE THE STORY HAS ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN. SO LIVE YOUR LIFE WITH CONFIDENCE KNOWING THAT GOD WINS!
