We live in a male normative society - everything is measured by what Joe Blow does. Women talk to much, men talk just the right amount. Women are too emotive, rather than men not being emotive enough. Guys get the normal scores on standardized testing, the girls aren't smart enough.
Well it seems now that all the push to get girls ahead in school has paid off, now they are outshining the boys as early as fourth grade. Suddenly it's Female normative and the boys are struggling to catch up. In college, boys used to represent 58% of enrollment, they are now down to 44%. Twice as many boys are in Special ed.
So what are the causes of this? Part of it has to do with fewer men sticking around to raise their boys. Another reason is because schools are less tolerant of typical 'boy behaviors' ie. walking, moving, jumping around in class. And with the push for standardized testing for younger students, boys are falling behind due to normal developmental issues. Girls have larger vocabularies, they read earlier, they are treated differently and pushed by parents. Another large problem is a lack of positive male rolemodels.
So are we moving to a female normative society? Is the Patriarchy falling to the wayside? I sure hope so. Ideally we need an androcentric society, but before we find that balance we will fall into a Matriarchal society to over correct the thousands of years of male domination. Luckily for you men out there, we women work a lot faster so we'll get it done in a fraction of the time.
