Cleansing incense

For serious cleansing of a space (I use this when I moved into a new house) you can use this - but vacate the room as soon as it is lit!

Ensure all internal doors are open, windows are shut and animals, small children etc are removed from the property.

5 crushed black peppercorns

2 crushed whole dried bird eye chillies

Quarter teaspoon crushed sulphur, or asafoetida makes a great substitute.

2-3 drops of sandalwood oil.

Light a charcoal briquette in a heatproof dish or plate.

Place in a prominent position that will ensure that the incense will permeate throughout the space you wish to cleanse. Vacate, and leave for about 30 mins.

When you return, open the windows and external doors for about 15 minutes to allow the noxious smells to disperse.

You can follow this with a floor wash or ritual sweeping if you wish!

For extra cleansing over a larger space - say a large home, burn two briquettes, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.

Please people - be careful, whilst the ingredients aren't poisonous, they smell awful AND you're dealing with hot coals, be safe and make sure you use heatproof mats under your bowl/plate!
