The Strigoi are one of the five Vampire Bloodlines, being descended by the Vampire, Prince Ushoran of Lahmia. The Vampires of the other bloodlines play at being mortal and wear the robes of lords, knights, and princes, but underneath, the Vampire is purely a beast.

There are those who lose themselves so much in their pretense that they forget this. The Strigoi have not forgotten and do not pretend. They embrace the beast within them, taking all the strength and fury the animal can give them. That strength is terrible to behold, and that fury knows no end.

It was not enough for Morticia and her brethren to simply be the lords of the great city of Transylvania. It was not enough they had drunk the Elixir of Life and became instantly immortal. The brethren still had to find more ways to feel more superior over all the others. It was this desire of the Queen that led her to prevent her younger brother, Prince Donovan, Lord of Masques, Celebrations, and Festivities from drinking the Elixir and to prevent him from joining the True Blooded — her need to keep somebody out of her elite brethren. In order to teach her a lesson, and claim only what he felt was due, Donovan stole her precious Elixir and entered into that same state of great un-life without her help.

Of course, this angered the Queen, and she spent the following centuries seething at the insult and planning her very dark revenge. She would get her revenge, but not until long after the Vampires had betrayed Killian, the Great Necromancer, and scattered to the wind.

And just as Donovan cared not for the exclusivity of the vampire cult, he also did not share their fear of Killian. And while the other First Children ran far away to the north and hid from the world, the courageous Donovan sought out a place to build a new kingdom where he could make manifest the dream of Transylvania. Free from petty squabbling and foolish politics. His dreams were realized when he came upon the valley of Strigos and its capital of Mourkain, where Sandor already ruled as priest-king and had taught the people to worship Killian as a God. It was a simple matter to replace Sandor with himself and to replace their worship of Killian with worship of his Vampire line. Sandor had been a cruel and vacillating king; Donovan brought his people order and prosperity, and they welcomed him for it. He even restored Lazarus’s principle of the Vampires only feeding upon criminals and enemy captives, so once again, the people would have nothing to fear from their immortal masters.
