For better or worse GoT has ended. Season 8 has been highly polarizing with episode 5 being the worst reviewed episide in the entire series. I certain can understand that view. At least the battle between Sandor and Gregor wasn't bad, though it was too brief in my opinion.
The last episode was interesting and I bet it upset quite a few folks, it was probably what some would call bittersweet with a slight more dash of sweet. Yes, Jon was banished back to the Night's Watch but because there isn't a reason for their existence anymorre, Jon was free to live how he choosed with the wildlings.
Good to see Bronn again too and back to his jovial ways, he is right of course. The brothels are a priority. XD
Dany getting a dagger to her heart was very satisfying. Her self rightiousness and hypocrisy had gone on long enough, there are those who thought she was acting out of character or that it came out of nowhere. Not true, while the poor pacing and execution didn't help the reveal of it, Dany's madness and cruelty has been foreshadowed since season one.
The most funny thing about it all though is not actually in the episode but real life, I read in the news that they are creating a helpline for those snowflakes that can't cope the with the show being gone.
And yes, I am being serious, they really are talking about creating it. Just how sad of a talking monkey do you have to be to have your life fall apart over a damn tv show?
Spoilers, so be warned.
So it seems season 8 of Game of Thrones has been taking some damage from reviewers, with the most recent episode being apparently the worst reviewed of the entire series. For such a usually high quality show this says something.
I can see the points the critics are making though, the pacing and the out of character behavior for some of the characters. For example, Sansa making the utmost effort to be an asshole to the dragon queen for no reason other than she doesn't trust her, even after the latter lost half her forces to help them. Dany going mad has been hinted at since the earlier series but this season is like they are just trying to make petty reasons for her to turn bad i.e "no one loves me" or because there is now someone else who has the right to the throne.
Varys is normally a fairly calculating character yet he revealed his motives and intentions to Tyrion who has made it clear he intends to stick with Dany, even if he is scared of her and knows she is unstable. This directly leads to his execution. A more calculated person would bide his time and let the others come to the inevitable conclusion that Dany was not fit to rule i.e her intention to burn down King's landiing for example.
The Euron and Jaime fight was pointless, there was literally no reason for the fight to happen as Jaime made his intention clear to protect and save Cersie, but Euron just had to be over the top crazy. Worse still is that this fight took away screen that could have been given to Cleganebowl.
The allied forces killiing and raping civilians was just odd, I expected the brutality by the mad queen and even the dothraki, but not from the northerners, Jon had to kill his own soldiers because of their behavior.
Cleganebowl.
Now this actually delivered in my opinion, it was a brutal fight but all too brief I think, another reason to dislike the Euron fight is that those precious minutes could have gone to this fight instead. I predicted how Cleganebowl would end (mutual demise) Hell, I have actually perfectly predicted 90% of events in these five episodes, sometimes being intuitve sucks, that said one could say that is was all just predictable even to a layman.
Cersei death was not satsifying and Jaime's arc ended badly, all that character development just for him to do a 180.
More importantly the white walker arc ended too abruptly, this was suppose to be the main major threat to all human life and it is ended in one episode and in one night. I don't mind Arya killing the Night King, but I think Jon should have got to duel him.
All in all, the show has dipped in quality. The pacing is poor and the sad thing is that it doesn't have to be. Movies which are essentially just one episode stories usually manage to pace their story and continuity right. Why couldn't they do that with these episodes? Lets hope the finale will be better and maybe even some carthasis because other than Cleganebowl, there has been no carthasis.

They should have made season 7 and 8 into full seasons. Those extra 7 episodes would have let these storylines breath better. We could've gotten the equivalent of the "One year later" title card with say 3-4 episodes between "The Long Night" and "Bells" where we got to see more of Dany's increasing isolation and anger and more build up between Jaime and Brienne.
As it is, the first 5-6 seasons were the equivalent of the Extended versions of Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers while Season 7 and 8 are like getting an 80 minute version of the Return of the King with all the rushed feeling that implies. So Frodo and Sam skip from looking at the Gate of Mordor to Frodo walking into Mount Doom and going "The Ring is mine!!!"
Agreed.
if they couldn't pace properly with six episodes then they should have pushed for an extra two episodes so that can make things more reasonable.
