I went for a six miler this evening. There was a slight mist and it was fairly dark as it was around what would have been sunset had it not been for the cloud cover.
The trail I run through the woods passes by and runs parallel to a major road near where I leave and because of some maintenance work, I was diverted for a good 2 miles or so to running on the side of this road. Getting to my 3 mile turn around point, I had some fun in the slight path worn in the grass (no sidewalks).
Coming back though, I made a quick decision. I could run up and over a mound of dirt/gravel created by the construction or stick to the road for about 20 yards. I took a quick look behind me and could see the cars lined up at a red light.
I can say I took unequivocal delight in lighting up the afterburners and sprinting down the 20 yards to the bit of safe grass on the side road before the light turned green. I glanced just briefly at all the people sitting in their cars/SUVs on the opposite side of the road and thought 'You poor fools! Most of you think me insane when really, you're all just brain dead.'
For those who are keeping up or wondering, I am still writing my story. I had a bit of a fallow period and then in a single burst, I wrote a whole 'chapter' in about 4 hours.
I just re-read it last night a) to edit it and b) to see what the hell it was I'd written. I've found that when I write like that, it's like I'm taking dictation so I'm just typing without really hearing the story. It's not until the next day that I go back and read it that I find out 'what happened.' It's a....unique experience.
That said, the story is definitely moving along. Questions I'd had about the plot and 'what will happen next' are falling into place. When I started this, I thought I'd have a little 10 page story. It's now over 20 pages and I'm not sure I've even hit the half way mark.
Regardless, this has become a very fun journey and I'm very happy a few of you have joined me for the ride. I should be posting the new chapter tonight or tomorrow. Stay tuned!
Where do I start? This weekend was so much of what I'd hoped and more. Imagine seeing 5 of your favorite bands all in the same weekend and just being with a lot of like-minded people. That's basically how my weekend went.
Friday night was, in so many ways, the highlight. Icon of Coil and Razed in Black were the headliners. As you might have noticed from the porfolio pics and my profile pic, I'm a tad obsessed with Icon of Coil and Andy LaPlegula. The fact that I got to get a picture with him is still just insane. I was at one of the merch tables looking at t-shirts when my friend starts hitting me. Without turning around, I just say "What? What is it?" He finally says, "Justin, TURN AROUND!" I turn and there he is - standing not 2 feet from me. So like a total fan boy, I just throw my phone at my friend and ask Andy "Can I get a picture with you?" He was really cool about it and said sure. I was such an idiot the rest of the night, saying stupid shit like "I had my arm around Andy LaPlegula's waist...."
So yeah - how the hell do you top that, right? Well, you have an awesome performance by Razed in Black and then you go collapse at 4AM, that's how! LOL! The next day was hitting the Vampire Freaks store and finding a pair of black velvet pants I've wanted for a LONG time. The vibe in the store, obviously was hopped up given their primary sponsorship of the festival. I got to chat with one of the store employees I know who also DJed during the festival.
That night was, I thought, going to be a little more low key since Aesthetic Perfection was the only band I really wanted to see. They turned around and put on a freakin' awesome show. Jet, the festival promoter owner of Vampire Freaks, all around grand poobah was right next to me and we pretty much danced liked crazy for an hour straight. The night did end early though - lol. We were in bed at 3AM.
Sunday night was the big finale. It felt strange since we really didn't do much during the day except hang out in the city a bit and then we had dinner with a friend who took the pic of me looking like a happy cadaver. We headed down to the venue and got there just about 15 minutes before Imperative Reaction went on. They were the perfect band with which to get things started. Fast and heavy.
Finally, Apoptygma Berzerk went on and brought the house down. I mean seriously - some bands you love to see just because you love their music. Apop though, they make sure you're performing WITH them. I pretty much sounded like an alcoholic chain smoking truck driver at the end of that show just because of all the singing/screaming I did. The whole place was jumping and it was just damned impossible not to get swept up in the energy and the frenzy they created.
We got home around 4:30 and dropped like rocks. The crazy thing about each of these nights is, I woke up the next day, after about 4-5 hours of sleep, totally ready to conquer the day. Overall the music was just spot on. The crowd was a pretty cool mix of people. More black than I thought possible. I did not really encounter any 'friends' as I thought I might. I'm sure they were there though - getting a 'drink' on the sly. LOL.
That's the quick down and dirty. Happy to share more with anyone who wants to hear more. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
I have failed utterly to get started on the fifth chapter of my story. It's all up there *points to skull* - I just have to set aside the time to write it.
Unfortunately, it's not gonna happen this weekend. I'm going to be slaking a thirst that's been driving me mad for awhile now at the Triton Festival.
I suspect this weekend is going to be, in a word, epic. I'm not sure why but the last time I had a feeling like this, well, the gods and fates did not disappoint.
Rest assured, if I'm not able to update during the course of the week, I will do so once I get back.
In the meantime, all you vamps, lycans, and other children of the night, enjoy yourselves but let's all make it back to tell the tale!
