Off to Salem Mass tonight

And let's just say....oh dear. I just went out to run a couple of final errands. I was walking to the car and there was something strange about the light. As I was wondering what it was, I realized two things at almost the same thing. The first was, "Oh right, that's autumn light" and the second was, "Something strange is going to happen tonight." Those of you who know me know, when I have those flashes, better buckle up kiddies!

Stay tuned....

Evil thoughts, good intentions

02:49 Oct 18 2011

So as many know, more often than not, I run on secluded wooded trails and I tend to do this in the early evening if not outright after dark. Equally often, I encounter women running by themselves with headphones on. You can guess where this is going, right?

Tonight, I was running along part of a trail that ran beside a fairly steep embankment down to a marsh/lake. At this point, it was well past sundown and as I'm cruising along, I see ahead of me a young, blond, female. Before I got close to her, I could see her head was down staring at something in her hand - no doubt a phone. She finally looked up when I was about a foot from her.

As I got closer, a thought flitted through my mind: "I could, without even slowing down, knock you straight down into that ravine." What immediately followed that thought: "And then maybe you wouldn't be so INCREDIBLY STUPID to be walking on darkened trail by yourself, with earphones, AND texting, utterly unaware of your surroundings!"

I mean really, people. She might as well have had a neon sign flashing "Easy mark here! Please come do all manner of harm to me" with an arrow pointing at her dim-witted little head. Mind you - I run withOUT headphones most of the time - mainly because I don't like the distraction. But running through the woods in the dark? Here's a thought: keep your f'ing wits - all of them - about you!

So there you go. This PSA brought to you by JustinV, your friendly neighborhood vampire who prefers his meals to be at least be semi-intelligent :-)

Halloween Decorating

05:12 Oct 15 2011
Times Read: 610

So I'm putting it here in writing - hold me accountable people!

I want to change my profile for Halloween. I'd wanted to do this last year but was so caught up with the festivities that I just didn't get around to it. I'm taking a slightly more measured approach this year so I should be able to set aside the time.

This year is also different in that I've planned a much more epic adventure - namely the Greenwich Village Halloween parade. I cannot freakin' wait.

I am a tad nervous though about my costume. I've decided to do Jack Skellington this year. I've got just about the whole thing now - just need to finish up some DIY work on the pants. Plus, I want to do a 'dry run' of the makeup. It's gonna be epic so I want to be sure to get it right especially since people who do the parade usually go all out. Granted, for those of you who saw my pics from last year when I was Frank N Furter, I usually put a lot more effort in than most.

In fact, check out the Portfolio folks. I'll put up some of my past Halloween outfits for laughs. Enjoy!

All together now...."This is Halloween..."

So this month is flying by WAY too fast! I think a big part of the problem is I'm so caught up with the day job and training for races that the 'free time' I had this time last year is just wiped out.

The weather is at least going the way I want it though! We've had several days of rainy and/or overcast days which make going out so much easier to deal with. The temps are finally dropping as well so I don't feel like I'm roasting alive.

The main thing though? The sun is getting weaker and weaker. I love these early evenings where it's setting sooner and we get such beautiful sunsets as well as those terrific shadows I love so much. It's almost impossible to describe how the light changes but it's there as tangible as the crispness in the air.

All that said, the race last weekend went very well and I had a great time. This weekend is heading out to do the apple/pumpkin picking tradition. The following weekend is a wedding and then things really kick into high gear for the season with a trip to Salem, Mass and then NYC for the entire Halloween weekend.

I'm hoping to squeeze in at least one trip to the goth club in Northampton during all these but we'll see. That's quite the trek and without the easy do-it-yourself schedule I once had....

Last but not least, I'm going to try and find some time to re-do my profile first for Halloween and then just to change things up. It's been the same old thing here for so long that it's definitely time for something new!

And how are you cats and kittens all doing?
