So yeah, writing about an event three weeks after it happened. How's that for awesome?! But better late than never, right?
Well, as I tried to show with the last entry with links to the pages which have a pic of me (look for the Jack Skellington in the thumbnails), I had a blast!!! I was incredibly popular - I was stopped at least every 20 yards to have a pic taken of or with me.
It was a revelation, I think, for the husband on a number of counts. First, he had no idea how popular my costume/character would be (he only JUST saw the movie!). I think it was something else for him to see all these people call out "Jack!!!" and then run up and ask for a photo. But more importantly, he agreed to go the parade with me mainly to indulge me - Halloween isn't a big deal to him. Of course, as some of you who know me/what's been going on lately, he's definitely been on his best behaviour and trying to do things that will make me happy regardless of whether he wants to really do them himself! But as it turned out, he had a LOT of fun. I think he got caught up in the spirit and just the fun of having all these people lining the parade route just to see us go by.
The night was, in short, spectacular. I could go on and on about all the other costumes I saw (NYC people definitely bring their A game to events like this!) but I would just encourage you to go to the photo gallery site itself and scroll through a few pages: http://photos.halloween-nyc.com/.
The one last thing I will share though was a strangely special moment. It wasn't until after we'd reached the end of the parade route and we were just walking about a bit trying to decide where we could go for dinner when I finally saw another Jack Skellington. He was walking away from me and so I ran after him yelling "Jack!" He turns around, sees me and screams back "Jack!" So totally spontaneously, we hugged. Before we knew it, there were all these camera flashes going off around us! Haha, I guess it was something to see two Jack Skellingtons. So we stopped, and posed for a few pics (see below - I'm on the right) and then started to go our separate ways again. He yelled out "Happy Halloween, Jack!" and I called back, "You too Pumpkin King!"
And now, the countdown to next year begins!
Well, just a quick note to let folks know that my trip to Salem went off without a hitch. It was fun and interesting but nothing dramatic happened. Perhaps it was just the anticipation of my Halloween celebrations finally kicking into gear.
At any rate, I do want to post about the NYC/Greenwhich Village Halloween Parade. SUCH. AN. AWESOME. TIME!!! I don't have much time now but here's a couple of pics of yours truly from their site to whet your appetite!
