I'm ripping that headline from one of Requiem's status updates. One, because it's hilarious and two, because it's effin' true. After taking Nov and Dec off, I started training again this past month. Jan - Mar are the base building months for race season which generally begins in April.
I referred to myself in a journal comment recently as a 'competitive duathlete.' I always feel ridiculous saying that as it sounds like I'm on the podium at every race which isn't true at all. That said, everyone around me guffaws when I say things like "I'm not that competitive." Usually I get some response like "You'd make checkers a blood sport if you could."
Whilst at the gym a couple nights ago, I was trying to push myself and a phrase we used to have on a sign when I did crew in college came back to me. "Someone, somewhere is training harder than you are. When you meet them, they will beat you." I then opted for the dumbells that were 5 lbs heavier than I thought I could reasonably do.
So yeah - I guess I'm competitive.
