I took a step forward. It was a stupid mistake, I bumped into the big man and my body went rigid adrenaline shot through me like lightening. He whirled around grabbing the front of my jacket and pinning me to the wall. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" His voice was deep and he was strong but I was reckless with the adrenaline searing through my veins and pounding in my head. "Fuck the fuck off, man! He gave a smug smile and grabbed my throat, lifting me off my feet. I panicked gripping his hands trying to pry them from my throat but with my weight against them it was impossible, I couldn't breathe. I placed my boots on his thighs, grabbed my knife from my pocket and flicked the blade out then jabbed it into his neck as I pushed him off as hard as I could. His body flew backwards hard, hitting the wall and crumbling to the ground. I landed on own my butt groaning. I could hardly see but I could hear the creaking floor boards. I knew I had little time, the other man was coming to investigate.
The bigger man turned and walked through the doorway and as he did so I caught a glimpse of a sleek shiny barrel protruding from under his shirt...this was no longer a game. My adrenaline kicked in as I began silently arguing with myself. Turning back would be a cowards decision, I was no coward and the people inside needed me. I ran forward, slowing as I reached the creaking staircase. As I came to the slightly door I took one last deep breath before turning sideways and sliding through into the darkness. The first thing that I noticed was the darkness, it was too dark to see. I had been inside this house before, helping my last neighbors pack so they could move to florida. I could remember it well and so I thought, Im facing two staircases, on my left there will be a medium size staircase leading to the basement-garage and the right a smaller staircase leading to the living room and kitchen. For a split second I thought about turning back but dismissed the idea quickly. I had come too far and so
as they faced the neighbors front door. I jumped down the steps of my porch and landed on the damp grass with barely a sound. I walked closer and sat my hands onto the chain link fence separating our backyard from the neighbors side yard, I squated a bit, my muscles coiled like a cat as I effortlessly flung myself over, landing flat on my feet. I stalked forward, the cold chill biting at my neck. As I got closer I saw that one man was picking the lock while another stood behind him, looking for anyone who could be watching. I smiled as I peaked through the bush studying the men. One was built to the extreme, he looked to be at least 6'8 with cropped black hair and beefy tan muscles stretching his black shirt. the other was short but muscular with brown hair, they looked to be in their thirties. The third man was no where to be seen. He must of went around back as I was jumping over the fence. The man then opened the door slightly tapping the bigger mans shoulder as he slid into open door.
My right eye was bright grey, almost silver. Although it was normally grey, it had never been so bright and mysterious. My left eye was a dark green like the leaves of a jungle, dark and hungry, I thought. I grabbed my light cotton jacket. I loved this jacket, it matched my shirt on the outside while the inside matched my pants. I slid my arms inside it and barely zipped its zipper, exactly how I usually wore it. Thats when I first noticed something in my peripheral vision, a van moving down the road. Its headlights were off making it barely visible through the swirling mist. Thats odd I thought and I began to turn away but stopped as the van slowly pulled into my neighbors driveway. Straining my eyes, I could see three men jump out. They all looked determined and had a very strange expression on their faces. The expression was familiar to me but I couldn't place it...they were unable to see me as I watched curiously with and a sensation that they were up to no good. The corners of my mouth turned up
The sky was dark grey, the air filled with a shroud of mist. The mist so thick that you could see barely see 50 yards in front of you. The biggest crows that I had ever seen were walking through my backyard. Today was a strange and eerie day but I welcomed it openly. Days like this were scarce in this suburban neighborhood. The bare trees and cool damp grass of an early October morning gave me the sense of peace and tranquility. The crows were calming and friendly to me. I was standing on my back porch wearing my favorite camouflage cargo pants, combat boots, and tight charcoal colored long sleeve shirt over a blank tank top. I ran my fingers over my buzz cut and looked at my reflection in the glass backdoor. I was six feet tall and at only 160 pounds, I was light but I was not weak in anyway. My body was a ripcord of hard lean muscle with a massive chest like a lion. My face was pale and angular while my eyebrows were thick and dark, my hair shone light. The eyes staring back at me were different today.
