Yesterday brought about a silver lining in my less than great week. With it being the 4th of July, I spent it with immediate and extended family in my hometown of Charleston, SC....a place I don't get out to as often as I'd like anymore.
We spent the day at my oldest cousin's house. With it being my grandparent's old house and being my first time in there since their passing, it's honestly not quite the same without them there. I almost kept expecting to see my Granddaddy walk through the door at any minute.
It was a typical American Independence Day with a cookout and fireworks. It was great getting to see relatives who I hadn't seen in almost a year, and some who I hadn't seen in even longer. It was fun playing with and holding the newer additions to the family, and rather interesting meeting my older brother's new girlfriend.
The fireworks were awesome, although one of my cousins ended up burning the road. Haha, I love my family.
With my mother now being the only one left of her siblings yet to be a grandparent, that had many of them looking at me and asking the question. I know my mom wanted to be a grandmother by now, but if she's relying on me to be the first to give her grandchildren it'll still be a while because I'm waiting until I decide the time is right, and obviously I'm not wanting to have kids with just anyone. Considering my own life experiences, I'll have to know beyond any doubt that the father of my children is and will always be daddy material.
Ending on a lighter note, my only real complaint about yesterday is that the damn bug repellant wasn't worth two cents! LOL
