Weary am I of the tumult, sick of the staring crowd,

Pining for wild places where the soul may think aloud.

Fled is the glamour of cities, dead as the ghost of a dream,

While I pine anew for the tint of the old stream.

I have had my dance with folly, nor do I shirk the blame;

I have sipped the so-called Wine of Life and paid the price of shame;

But I know that I shall find surcease, the rest my spirit craves,

Where the lifes rainbows play in the flying spray,

Amid the keen sweet kiss of the daily waves.

Then it is! for the plunging fall and rise, the silent song of the new,

With never a thought of those I left or what I am going to do;

Nor heed the old times burning, but break the shackles of care

And at last be free, with the open me, with the gentle wind in my hair.

For Beauty

02:06 Feb 20 2011
Times Read: 620

For beauty being the best of all we know

Sums up the unsearchable and secret aims

Of nature, and on joys whose earthly names

Were never told can form and sense bestow;

And woman has sped her instinct to outgo

The step of science; and against her shames

Imagination stakes out heavenly claims,

Building a tower above the head of woe.

Nor is there fairer work for beauty found

Than that she win in nature her release

From all the woes that in the world abound;

Nay with her sorrow may her love increase,

If from woman's greater need beauty rebound,

And claim her tears for homage of her peace.

Do Not Quit

07:34 Feb 19 2011
Times Read: 630

When things go wrong as they sometimes will;

When the road you are trudging seems all uphill;

When the funds are low, and the debts are high;

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh;

When care is pressing you down a bit

Rest if you must, but do not you quit.

Success is failure turned inside out;

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;

And you can never tell how close you are;

It may be near when it seems afar.

So, stick to the fight when you are hardest hit -

It is when things go wrong that you must not quit.

Beautiful and true. Is the same speech that I gave to my daughter before She went to the University.

Life's Victory

00:07 Feb 19 2011
Times Read: 635

Life has loveliness to sell,

All beautiful and splendid things;

Blue waves whitened on a cliff,

Soaring fire that sways and sings,

And children’s faces looking up,

Holding wonder like a cup.

Life has loveliness to sell;

Music like a curve of gold,

Scent of pine trees in the rain,

Eyes that love you, arms that hold,

And, for the Spirit’s still delight,

Holy thoughts that star the night.

Give all you have for loveliness;

Buy it, and never count the cost!

For one white, singing hour of peace

Count many a year of strife well lost;

And for a breath of ecstasy,

Give all you have been, or could be.

Do Not Look Back

11:27 Feb 17 2011
Times Read: 663

As you travel through life there are always those times

when decisions just have to be made,

when the choices are hard and solutions seem scarce

and the rain seems to soak your parade!

There are some situations where all you can do

is to simply let go and move on,

gather courage together and choose a direction

that carries you toward a new dawn.

So pack up your troubles and take a step forward.

The process of change can be tough.

But think about all the excitement ahead,

if you can be stalwart enough!

There could be adventures you never imagined

just waiting around the next bend

and wishes and dreams just about to come true

in ways you can't yet comprehend!

Perhaps you shall find friendships that spring from new interests,

as you challenge your status quo

and learn there are so many options in life,

and so many ways you can grow!

Perhaps you will go places you never expected

and see things that you have never seen,

or travel to fabulous, faraway worlds

and wonderful spots in between!

Perhaps you shall find warmth, affection and caring,

a "somebody special" who is there

to help you stay centered and listen with interest

to stories and feelings you share.

Perhaps you will find comfort in knowing your friends

are supportive of all that you do

and believe that whatever decisions you make,

they will be the right choices for you!

So keep putting one foot in front of the other

and taking your life day by day.

There is a brighter tomorrow that is just down the road.

Do not look back, you are not going that way!

I loved this poem.

A lovely poem, A lovely flow of rhyme.

A lovely metaphore induces me to read again and again in rhythm.

Still I Rise by Maya Angelou

23:14 Feb 12 2011
Times Read: 698

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may trod me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?

Why are you beset with gloom?

'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells

Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,

With the certainty of tides,

Just like hopes springing high,

Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?

Bowed head and lowered eyes?

Shoulders falling down like teardrops.

Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?

Don't you take it awful hard

'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines

Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,

You may cut me with your eyes,

You may kill me with your hatefulness,

But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?

Does it come as a surprise

That I dance like I've got diamonds

At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame

I rise

Up from a past that's rooted in pain

I rise

I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,

Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear

I rise

Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear

I rise

Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,

I am the dream and the hope of the slave.

I rise

I rise

I rise.

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou

11:54 Feb 12 2011
Times Read: 707

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.

I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size

But when I start to tell them,

They think I'm telling lies.

I say,

It's in the reach of my arms

The span of my hips,

The stride of my step,

The curl of my lips.

I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

I walk into a room

Just as cool as you please,

And to a man,

The fellows stand or

Fall down on their knees.

Then they swarm around me,

A hive of honey bees.

I say,

It's the fire in my eyes,

And the flash of my teeth,

The swing in my waist,

And the joy in my feet.

I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

Men themselves have wondered

What they see in me.

They try so much

But they can't touch

My inner mystery.

When I try to show them

They say they still can't see.

I say,

It's in the arch of my back,

The sun of my smile,

The ride of my breasts,

The grace of my style.

I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

Now you understand

Just why my head's not bowed.

I don't shout or jump about

Or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing

It ought to make you proud.

I say,

It's in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,

the palm of my hand,

The need of my care,

'Cause I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.
