1. Sit or lay down in a dark candle-lit room and relax your body down, using deep breaths, and relaxing movements. If you find you can relax down, have a catnip and spearmint tea, and do tai chi, or do yoga.
2. Visualize nothing but pitch black darkness, and the point of a blue flame like a gas burner starting near the top.
3. Hear in your mind.. "Hearken all ye spirits..."
4. Visualize the flame going down to the lower left-hand corner of the blackness and coming to a point.
5. Hear in you mind.. "Grounded in her Earth,.."
6. Visualize the flame going up to the upper/center right-hand corner of the blackness and coming to a point.
7. Hear in your mind.. "Bathed in her Seas,.."
8. Visualize the flame going across to the upper/center left-hand corner of the blackness and coming to a point.
9. Hear in your mind.. "Cooled by her Winds,.."
10. Visualize the flame going down to the lower right-hand corner of the blackness and coming to a point.
11. Hear in your mind.. "Warmed by the fire."
12. Visualize the flame returning to the top point forming a pentagram of the blue flame, and then a circle forming around it.
13. Hear in your mind.. "As above, so below As within, so without As the universe, so the soul." The rite has ended.
Once you can memorize this complete you can call the protective power of the pentacle wherever you are.
Find a comfortable place where you can relax and be completely quiet...relax...allow your thoughts now to just come and go...come and go...and take a deep breath in and hold it...(pause)...now gather up the tension in your body, and release it as you exhale...take another deep breath, and as you exhale, let go of anybody else's energy or thoughts you may be carrying....and breathe in new energy...breathe in new possibilities...and allow your body to fill with lightness...feel it becoming lighter and lighter as you relax more and more...relaxing deeply...going deeper...feeling very light now...so light you could almost float away..........
And as you relax, imagine a beautiful colored mist is swirling up around you, billowing up around you into a cushiony, soft, cloud of energy...and you are resting completely upon this cloud...and you are safe...as you breathe in and out, let your thoughts just come and go...relaxing more and more...and the cloud of energy now lifts you up into the air and carries your down into your own inner world...down between the boundaries of time and space...to a place of timeless beauty and infinite possibilites...floating down now, going deeper and deeper,leaving the outer world and its concerns far behind, as you drift and float on this beautiful cloud....going further and further...down below you is a rock, a giant rock...and the cloud gently and effortlessly lands upon the rock and you step off it, as the cloud swirls back into a mist and disappears for now...
Stand upon this rock now, and feel the strength of it under your feet...and as you turn around, you look out upon a great river...flowing as far as you can see...seeming to come from some infinite place...and disappearing into an infinite place,,,a flowing,endless river of energy...this is the river of all life waters...all of life draws upon the lifeforce that moves through its steaming currents...look closely at the water...what color is it? it may look like liquid light to you...look deeply into it, and sense the power and depth of the river...what sound does it make as it courses through its channels?...as you stand securely upon your rock, notice and fragrance...and bend down and cup your hands in the living water,and splash some of it on your face...feel the life giving force on your skin...take a sip of the water...allow the river of life to nourish you....
Now relax a moment upon the rock...and bring into your mind the magical intention that never seemed to go anywhere...what were you trying to accomplish?...what was the basic intention you had?...what was the emotion behind the intention?...feel the energy of that emotion moving onto the palms of your hands now...feel the energy glowing...pulsating...breathe and allow your intention that you're still clinging to externalize...the energy of it is now shimmering,glowing...swirling into a sphere...allow all of your desire to flow into this sphere...and allow this sphere to appear to you however it appears...and just observe what you see...you may see pictures or symbols emerging within the sphere...whatever you see is fine...
When your sphere is completely filled with the last of your desire,emotion,and intention, hold it aloft...feel the power of it in you hands,a globe of power that you can now release...and look out into the river of life...watch as its currents of possibility flow for ever and ever,as far as you can see...and whenever you're ready,with as much and as little force as you need, throw the pulsating sphere into the river...and give this intention to the life force of this great river...watch as the sphere touches the water...and gradually disappears into the current...
Take a deep breath... as the sphere disappears the last of your intention and emotion and desire merges with the source of all life, from which it orriginally came...and leaves you...
Now complete any business here that you need to finish...take a few moments to enjoy the flowing river of life,and know that the possibilities it nourishes can bring miracles into you life too...
Take another deep breath, and notice tha colored mist is once again swirling around you...billowing up underneath you to form a beautiful cloud of cushiony energy, which is lifted up into the air, with you upon it...relaxing into the cloud you are returning the way you came...lifting up up through time and space, coming back from the inner world...coming up... further and further...floating and drifting back...coming back...bringing you all the way back into your body now, into this room...brining your attention completely back into this time and place...take a deep breath and begin to re-orient yourself to the outer world...and when you're ready, count to three..., and on the count of three open your eyes,and return feeling relaxed,alert and at peace.
As always, change any of the wording or images in this meditation if it suits your purpose better. The important part is just to finally and completely let go of your intention, so that the energy can be recycled in whatever form the creative force and your own consciousness will allow. Out of this release, new lives, new opportunities, and new magical opportunities are born!
Sitting in a straight-backed chair supporting your lower back with a pillow if necessary. Your chin should be level with the floor, eyes closed, back straight, hands resting on your knees, palms up & fingers relaxed. In this position you should be comfortable & relaxed, the spine straight & the torso erect.
Breathe deeply for several minutes. Relax. Forget. Visualize the multitude of tensions & worries of your everyday life exiting your body with your breath. Relax in the chair - now open your consciousness. Allow your conscious mind to be receptive & alert. Commune & talk with the deities. Toss around symbols in your head. If you wish, chant one of the names of the Goddess or God, or a group of them. This is an excellent tool for slipping into the twilight world.
Select a time & place with care. Light should be subdued, candle-lit is excellent. Burn white or blue candles if you wish. A bit of incense is fine too, but too much smoke can obviously cause problems during deep breathing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first step in developing one's magical senses involves developing concentration. Nothing ruins an evocation's chances of working more than if a magician thinks about what he or she wants for dinner while reading a conjuration. Once a magician can concentrate on one idea for several minutes, then he or she can easily master magical techniques. Following is the process for developing concentration.
First, find a period of time that you can devote to your exercises every day.The best times are either before going to sleep or right after waking in the morning, as you are in a calm state of mind in both instances. But no matter what time you practice, try to make it the same time each day, because setting aside the same time helps establish a beneficial routine in your subconscious.
In other words, your mind will expect a period of magical training every day at your selected time, just like it expects to fall asleep when your head hits the pillow at night.
Once you find a time to train, the next step is to find a place that is free of outside distractions. A bedroom is fine as long as you turn off the phone's ringer; and make sure no one will knock at your door. Find a good comfortable chair to sit in and face toward the part of your room that is the least cluttered or disorderly looking. Never try these exercises in your bed! As I already mentioned, your mind expects to fall asleep when you are in bed and meditation on a mattress is a little too relaxing.
when you are ready to work, turn off any electric lights and either work in darkness or by the light of a candle or oil lamp, either of which should be behind you if used. This will create a soft glow in the room that is very relaxing It is also helpful to burn incense, which helps put one into a slightly altered state of mind.Any scent will do at this point. I like using a combination of frankincense and myrrh, because the scent sets a temple-like atmosphere.
Sit in your chair and try to get as comfortable as you can, while at the same time making sure your back is kept straight. I recommend sitting with your feet pointing straight ahead and about six inches apart, with your hands rest-ing lightly on your lap, palms down. Let your shoulders relax, but try to keep your head up straight. The slight motion of your head tipping forward should serve as a warning that you are becoming either sleepy or restless. If either occurs, it's probably best to continue at another time.
Make sure you have a pen or pencil and your magical notebook handy before you go any further, so you can record your results when you are finished with the exercise.
Once you are sitting comfortably, close your eyes and begin the following rhythmic breathing exercise:
Inhale deeply through your nose for a slow count of four, and when your lungs are filled, hold this breath for the same count of four
Next, exhale slowly for a count of four, and when your lungs are completely empty; keep them this way for another count of four
Then repeat the process.
After a while of breathing in this rhythm, you won't have to count any longer, as your body will grow accustomed to keeping the rhythm. With practice, you should only have to go through the conscious counting for three or four cycles before your body takes over (If you have heart problems, just breath rhythmically without holding your breath.)
The next step of this initial relaxation process is to become aware of a glowing sphere in the air before you.
Don't worry about being able to visualize it clearly with your eyes closed, just know that it is there, and do your best to imagine it in a warm, golden color.
When you feel ready, imagine that your body is hollow and that you are clear like glass. On your next rhythmical inhalation, pull some of the light of the sphere toward your feet for a count of four, and feel its warmth filling you.
Then hold this fluid-like light within your feet for a count of four, and as you exhale, feel it glowing brighter within you.
On your next inhalation, pull some more fluid light into yourself to rise and fill another six to eight inches of your legs.
Hold as before, and feel this light glow brighter as you exhale.
Repeat this process until the light moves up your entire body, filling it with this warm, golden fluid. By now, your breathing should become an unconscious process, and you should be able to concentrate on the next step without counting.
Remember, your breathing only has to fit an approximate rhythm, so don't worry if you are off by a beat or two.
For the first week or so that you are working at this set of exercises, perform the following step
After your relaxation is completed, imagine you are sitting on top of a cliff overlooking a river There is a clear night sky above you.
Again, don't worry if you can't visualize this clearly yet. Just know that these are your surroundings
Now look at the river as it flows by you and listen for the sound of running water.As you do this, you will probably find several distracting thoughts are trying to occupy your consciousness.
Don't fight this, but instead, let these thoughts come, and try to see each of them as a positive visual symbol. For example, if your next car payment is worrying you, and you think of it at this time, see it manifest as an envelope hill of money and let it drift down the river.
This way you don't become too involved in each thought Once you cancel negative thoughts in this manner, and let them drift down the river, you can then let the next distraction come to you so you can deal with it in the same manner Never dwell on a distraction just make it positive and let it drift away In time, fewer and fewer distracting thoughts will invade your concentration.
Stick to the above exercise for the first week or So. When you see a significant drop in the number of distractions you experience while training, move on to the next step. Once you are seated and have performed your relaxation, imagine you are on that cliff again, but this time let an idea come to you, and concentrate on it.
Give it a positive symbol, or even better, make sure it is a positive idea.
Visualize this symbol, and try not to let any other thoughts enter your mind.
If you have a hard time, you might want to try letting the first few ideas that come to you drift down the river as before, and then concentrate on one.
Try and hold this one thought in your mind for as long as possible. You might find it helpful to hold a moving image in your mind, like a slow-fuming propeller, as concentrating on the motion will help you remain focused.
Each day you try this exercise, you should be able to go a little longer without any distracting thoughts.
Once you feel you can concentrate on one idea for five or six minutes, without interruption, you are ready for the next set of exercises. Remember to work at whatever pace feels most comfortable for you, and success is ensured.
Assume a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down. Relax your body slightly. Inhale through your nose to a slow count of 3, 4, 5 - whatever is best for you. Retain the air, then exhale to the same slow count.
Repeat this several times, gradually slowing your breath rate. Never hold your breath past the level of comfort. The inhalation, retaining & exhalation should be controlled, calm, free of tension.
Concentrate on your breathing process while doing this. As you inhale - breathe in love, health, tranquillity. perhaps visualizing these positive energies as golden-flecked air.
In exhaling, breathe out hate, disease, anger, maybe visualizing black smoke exiting your lungs.
Practice deep breathing exercises daily & gradually increase your capability to retain air.
Grounding and centering is the absolutely essential first step for any energy working. It's the thing that makes sure you are pulling the energy from the Earth, instead of depleting your own resources.
Without it, you will find yourself exhausted (or highly exhilarated) immediately after doing work, and then sick, headachy, dizzy, or faint afterwards. Sometimes the headache can persist for days afterwards.
All of these are signs that something is wrong.
Fortunately, it's easy to fix! Grounding and centering is a simple thing that is a natural ability in all of us. For some reason (probably that it smacks of the occult) it's rarely taught in the schools now, though. So this is your chance to learn it here.
Sit comfortably, without any part of your body resting on any other part (no crossed legs, etc.) and smile. (It relaxes you wonderfully to smile.)
You probably already know this; but you have more than one body. The ones we are going to be concerned with here are your physical body, and your etheric body. Just assume for now that you have the body you are used to thinking of as "you," and you also have another one, larger and subtler, that has all the same parts and is around your physical body like two layers of an onion. Think of it as a blue outline.
The point of the first part of the exercise, centering, is to line the two bodies up so that the energy can flow freely. You do this sort of like zipping a zipper. Hold the picture firmly in your mind, and line up the two red dots, physical and etheric, front to back and side to side. As you visualize (imagine) them coming together, hear the note C in your head. The first note of the scale.
Then carefully visualize all the others coming together as well, one by one, front to back and side to side until there is only one colored light. As you do, go on up the scale; doe, ray, me, fa, so, la, tea, doe.
(Yes, I know I'm spelling them wrong; but many people are used to hearing them, not seeing them written out, and this way they will sound like they should.)
When you get to the final doe, visualize your whole body wrapped in white light.
If this is really hard for you, visualize it going the other way, starting with your crown chakra, the violet light on the top of your head, and going down your body and down the scale. But try to learn to do it the other way, because it makes grounding easier.
For the second part of the exercise, Grounding, it is absolutely essential that you be centered. If you aren't, please go back and read that part now.
Starting with your crown chakra, the purple spot at the top of your head, visualize (imagine) a cord of light going all through your body, connecting your chakras as it goes.
See it coming down from the root chakra, and becoming a root itself. Feel it going through your chair, through the floor, through the foundation of the building, and into the ground. Feel the warm, fertile ground below you. And feel your root going deeper and deeper, down through the ground, down below the deepest well. There is a whole core of energy down there. The core of the planet is full of pure, clean, loving energy; and the Earth means her children to use it.
So draw that energy up your root now, up through the ground, through the soil, through the foundation, and the floor, and the chair, and into your body. Feel that pure clean energy coming into your body.
And pull it on up through your body, up through all your chakras, up through your crown chakra, up through the top of your head. And as it comes, it washes away all the tired, old, nasty energy, and fills you with clean, pure, fresh energy, energy from the Earth.
And let it come out of the top of your head, and flow out like a fountain, like the branches of a tree, up and arching gracefully down, and flowing back into the Earth. You are sitting in the center of a circuit now; a circuit of energy flowing up from the center of the Earth, through your body, through the top of your head, and back down into the Earth again.
See how that feels? If you are doing it right, you will be able to feel it. If not, try it again some other time. It's really not hard.
Now, the important thing to remember at this point is not to get greedy and try to keep too much of the energy. When you are finished with the exercise, you should have exactly as much energy as is normal for you. No more, and no less. Just think of yourself as taking no more and no less, and your own body will even it out for you.
It's nice and clean and fresh, but it's the same amount. If it isn't, you will wind up with one of the headaches again. And you don't want that!
Keep doing this for a few minutes every day, and soon it will be as easy as taking a deep breath. And it will make you feel so much better!
Not just when working with energy, but when facing any kind of stress, or tension, or fear, or exertion, or anything. Being grounded and centered just makes life a bit easier to take!
The ancients recognized that to know the name of something was to have knowledge and power over it, but it implied knowing all aspects of that name. Ouw individual names contain much power, and if we come to "know" them properly, we can discover much aout our own soul's growth, its purposes, and how to release our spiritual energies more effectively into our physical lives. The meaning, the sounds, the rhythms, the nature of the letters and their combinations, all disclose secrets about the indivdual's essence past and present, physical and spiritual. We are in intergration of past energies and experiences, and the potential creativity within our personalities is reflected within the name we have taken upon us for this incarnation.
Our names reflect the energy signature~the energy patterns we have come to unfold, and expand, and overcome within this lifetime. Numerology and nameology are based upon the idea that each soul comes into the world to learn certain lessons and achieve certain goals to round out it's overall development and propel its evolvement. The problem arises when the soul takes upon itself the physical vehicle.
Learning to work with your name and with the power that can be released from the soul into you life by that name is the purpose of this work. Learning the estoeric significance and use of one's name as a tool for enlightenment and achievement was part of the ancient spiritual sciences taught within the Atlantean Wisdom Temples.
Man has the innate power to create. The spoken word or name, when employed with potent thought, becomes a creative power that can be manipulated within one's life in any manner her or she desires. Learning to use that power is what gives dominion over matter.
To the ancient mystics, the assigning of a name was a process that was to be reverenced. Names were viewed as the spiritual essence behind the physical form and consciousness. Name counseling was prevalent for many centuries, especially in the Orient, where unique names were created for each newborn child. We are currently at a point in the evolution of humankind when it is agion necessary to revive the ancient techniques of naming.
It all begins with learning to identify and use the energies and essence within your name to which you have the greatest access. It means learning about those creative aspects and applying them so that you no longer fit the "stereotypes" but express an energy that is as unique as you are. It all comes down to making a choice within your life.
"Know thyself!" This was the precept of the ancients and it still holds true today. The path to enlightenment does not lead into some blinding light that dissolves our troubles. It is a path that awakens the light of the divine within the physical. Within our name, within our essence, lies that light.
COMMENTS
Agates (Colors: varied): There
are several types of agates. Banded: relieves
stress/emotional pain. Dendritic: milky-white with
blue/black spots; protection in travel. Indian: eye
formation in center of stone. Used for bodily protection
or survival. Moss: milky with moss inside. Also tree
agates and fern agates. These are healers, simulating
wound closure. Acts as a cleanser, stimulator and
strengthener. Its liquid appearance and smooth surface
are great soothers for children's minor
"accidents." Plume agate: milky with fiery red
grasses inside. Good for visualization practice and
reaching desired goals. Agates in general combined with
other stones and gemsmake for excellent magickal results.
They act much like the binding runes as they provide an
active link for the harmonious blending of several
properties.
Amber (Color: yellow or
orange): Fossilized resin of extinct organic matter. This
is an all-purpose gem. It is an excellent protector of
children and a spell strengthener, and can stimulate the
flow of money toward you. A High Priestess of a coven may
wear amber as well as jet beads to signify her position.
Amber is said to be one of the most magickally used
stones by the Witches of the Old Religion.
Amethyst (Color:
transparent crystaline purple): Used to transform
negativity and strengthen the third eye vision or your
intuitive sense. Put it under your pillow or on the
headboard of a bed for one who suffers nightmares or
disturbing dreams. Always have a nice piece in the room
where you entertain outsiders, such as friends or clients
(an especially family!). This gem is good for headaches
and preventing overindulgence in alcohol.
Bloodstone (Color: very
dark green with red or orange spots or bands): the
bloodstone is really a jasper, but because of it's unique
properties i have listed it seperately. it is also called
a heliotrope. Keep this in mind when stone shopping since
different dealers and stones use a variety of names. It
has been used for centuries in healing of both internal
and external difficulties. If you embark upon the healing
of another person, keep a bloodstone in your pocket to
protect yourself, as well. It is alos carried to avoid
wounds, bring money, increase production, protect
pregnant women, and provide "cloaking" when you
don't want to be seen. It is said that when their energy
is used up, the red spots turn to white. The stone should
then be returned to the elements from whence it came.
Carnelian (Color:
translucent red or orange): This is a very special agate.
It is the success stimulator for career minded
individuals. A powerful action stone -- things move very
fast with this one. If you think you will be entering an
arena where your thoughts will be "scanned" by
another person and you do not desire this, carry the
carnelian!
Fluorite (Color:
variegated translucent blue, purple, pink or blue-green):
Fluorite is seen as interlocking cubes or gives the
appearance of two pyramids fused together, This is a
relatively "new stone." Fluorite is great for
use during medication to contact your higher self and can
assist in tuning you in to the Akashic records, enabling
you to answer some of those haunting past-life questions.
At first you may experience mere flashes, but they often
contain all the answers necessary to formulate a complete
scenario. Others use it to strengthen analytical and
intellectual abilities.
Geodes: Stone balls
with crystal, amethyst or topaz centers. Others are a
collection of mineral deposits that dazzle the eye when
the stone is sliced. These are often called "thunder
eggs." They stimulate dance and the free spirit. In
magick, a geode can be used to concentrate power prior to
its release.
Jaspers (Color:
varied): Hard, opaque stone. They are known as the
"rain gatherers." Jaspers strengthen your
energy flow and relieve stress. Red: night protection,
defensive magick and the return of negative energy.
Green: healing. Brown: grounding and stability.
Malachite (Color: blue
or green with variegated bands): This stone has a truely
unique ability-- it breaks into two pieces to warn you of
imminent danger. Also believed to greatly enhance vision
questing.
Moonstone (Color: pink,
white, blue or green): All hues are soft. It promotes
love, compassion and sympathy both in yourself and
others. Also the gem of second sight, it enhances psychic
powers and should be kept with divinatory tools. If you
over extended yourself with dream work and need a
pleasant nigt's rest, place the moonstone under your
pillow. The moonstone can also assist in unblocking
emotions between two lovers, helping them to communicate
in an atmosphere of unconditional love.
Obsidian (Color:
black): A type of volcanic glass. Pebbles are called
"Apache tears". The obsidian is basically a
stone of protection, although mirrors of obsidian have
been used for scrying purposes. Snowflake obsidian, if
you put it with money said to never make you run
completely dry. If you feel too many people are taking
advantage of you, carry a piece of this gem with you to
screen out this pushy energy.
Rhodochrosite (Color:
variegaed pink and white): The "energizer" of
the stone family. If you are feeling a little tired but
you have got to finish a project, let this stone help you
out.
Rose quart (Color:
pink) This is a quartz crystal with a soft, rosy hue.
Another excellent give-away stone as it always encourages
peaceful and loving feelings. It promotes beauty, love of
self and of others. Set a piece in your home or office
enviroment. When your children are having an argument or
an especially bad day, have them sit quietly and hold the
stone. Soon there are smiles all around! This stone is
also excellent for a friend or family member who is
experiencing profound grief over the loss of a loved one.
Smokey quartz (Color:
translucent grey/black): This stone is clear quartz that
looks like it has been infused with a heavy dose of soot.
It is another energy generator and a protective stone.
also protects vehicles from vandalism and keeping them in
running order.
Sodalite (Color: deep
blue with strands of white): often confused with lapis
lazuii. An excellent stress reducer, this stone enables
you to go through the day without being affected by minor
upheavals or emotional turmoil. It is also a good
meditative stone, especially in teaching adults.
Sunstone (Color:
tangerine): Native to Oregon. This stone looks like a
slice of orange, and even feels like one. This is an
energizer and a cellular healing stone. It is also
associated with the Sun and the element of Fire, and used
in cancer recovery.
Tiger eye (Color: honey
brown with banded tints): This is a stone of luck and
fortune, but is also know for its truth-discerning
capabilities. It is a stone of honesty. Anyone attempting
to lie to you while you are carrying this stone better be
careful, as his claok will be removed. Often others will
blurt the truth or you will find out in the same day that
you have been deceived. Veils are lifted with this stone.
It also assists in accurate judgement calls. Falcon's eye
is a danish blue in color. It is not as outgoing as the
brown version but it is very effective in situations you
believe have zoomed way off their mark. It will drawn you
to a more sure-footed path and back in control.
Turquiose (Color: baby
blue): Looks like a baby blue bubble gum. A highly
absorbent stone, it drains of color if in contat with
your flesh over a period when you are in highly stressed
mode. Turquiose is the "speaking stone". It
enhances verbal communication and allows thoughts to flow
in perfect sentences. If you are nervous about giving a
speech or presentation, wear turquiose around the throat.
Turquiose is considered to enhance love, health and
happiness, as well as functioning as a protector of the
spirit.
Every month or so we add free spells, rituals and energy workings to the list below so check back soon! We have tried to credit the authors wherever possible; if you recognize something here that does not have the author credited, please let us know. Feel free to copy the spells as you wish. We do ask that if you use any part of the spell or ritual on a website for any purpose, that you link back to SpellSpot.com as the source.
A Note About Spells: If you are here looking for spells to affect the will of other people, i.e., make someone love you, harm someone, attain personal gain at the cost of others, etc... you are in the wrong place. Spells, simply put, are a way of directing energy to bring about change in YOUR life, not someone elses. Change can happen in many ways and that may or may not be in the way that you expect. Wiccans never perform spells or rituals to harm or affect the will of others, only to affect their own lives in positive ways by drawing upon their own energies. Please do not contact us asking for spells to control the will of others; we cannot and will not help you. There is no "hocus-pocus" here, it takes many years of practice and attuning to channel your inner energies and it is not to be taken lightly. That said, if you are still interested in learning more about Wicca and/or Paganism, please visit these web links:
