I ran down the hallway away from the light

My nightgown fluttered around my ankles

The light streaming after me in a mad chase

Trying to reach me and sink into my skin.



But it was dark where I ran

It was darkness swirling around outside me

Protecting my insides and my heart where

It was dark.



I stumbled against the wall

Gripping to find my way back to my room

It was dark

And I knew that familiar comfort.



I crawled into bed and drew the covers up

Over my head to have the darkness encase me

Never bothering to keep my feet from

The darkness hiding under my bed.



I sobbed into my pillow

Feeling the full pain of your absence

Tears stinging my cheeks in their saltiness

All I could feel: It was dark.
