Everybody Music

For those of you who don't understand what I mean when I refer to "everybody music"

Everybody music is music that is the most popular because it was bought air time on the radio or on television. Basically, its an advertisement. Certain bands make music solely to make money. Just as a business person creates a product for the same purpose. As a result; lyrics are often times not written by any band member personally--they are bought, the musical content is of one dimension and often times holds next to no artistic value other than the fact that it is music--which is a form of art, lyrics are often times very shallow--sometimes pseudolyrics are used, sometimes the drumming is not done by a person or is simple enough for just any drummer to do, and sometimes the vocals are lip-synced.

There are two types of everybody music. One is the mainstream pop-culture music. The other is the mainstream counter-culture music. Music of the mainstream pop-culture is, basically, all of the most popular songs from year to year. The media makes charts of the most listened to music so that other people, who like to follow fads or cannot think for themselves, can find something to listen to. Music of the mainstream counter-culture is hyped music that the mainstream media condones. Although the mainstream media and its culture does not support such music, there is still the media for the counter-culture; which is not promoted by the government. Now, with the internet; mainstream counter-cultural music can become more popular. Making it more hyped and more acceptable for the mainstream counter-culture to listen to.

Although the counter-culture would like to think they are rebellious to the US government's ideal society, many of them do dabble in pop-culture music. These are, mainly, people who are starved for attention and would do anything to "blend in with the crowd" yet stand out as a "rebel." This is not possible if one is to buy into the mainstream media. However, it is an ongoing trend.

I, personally, do not tolerate everybody music. Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, and Lacuna Coil are all bands that have not sold out yet are being eaten up by counter-cultural media. However, there is one difference between a legitamate fan and appreciator. The difference is appreciation itself and listening to more songs than just what is popular by a certain band. By each of the three bands, I listen to songs that resonate with my understanding and feelings of life and love. This is something neither culture will be able to understand.

Most everybody music listeners will look not too far for bands / artists to listen to. People like this will only look for bands / artists who are popular in the US. Everybody music listeners will search for music based on the sound of music. Whatever sounds like what is popular will become popular. The lyrics aren't particularly paid attention to, though they are memorized. This is fitting, however, since the lyrics aren't made legitimately.

I, personally, look for music based on lyrics. I look for deep, meaningful lyrics; most of the time, lyrics that tell a story. It is not the lyrics themselves I look for. It is the lyrical content; what the songs are about. I listen to music that I can relate to on a personal level. In funding music like this, I am likewise rewarded with multi-dimensional levels of talent in sound; unique vocals, highly talented guitars, bass, and drums, and beautiful ambiance. Deep lyrics is something that keeps the music I like out of the hands of the media spotlight, since it is generally something everybody music listeners can understand.

It seems that the meaning of 'hardcore' is misconscrued in today's society. Genres like Nu Metal, metal where the vocals are either screamed or rapped and sometimes both, and Heavy Metal--from the past and modern--are not hardcore, as the mass media will have you believe. However, it is genres like Death Metal, Black Metal, and even Power Metal that are hardcore. I just wanted to clarify the meaning of hardcore.

I used to be a person who wanted to fit in but no matter how hard I tried, I could never fit it. I eventually learned that one is not supposed to "fit in" but is supposed to be himself / herself. I used to listen to Rap and Hip Hop but that never, quite, suited me. Rap and Hip-Hop are popular, both, in the mainstream pop-culture and the mainstream counter-culture. A lot of rappers only make one song that becomes popular and never find commercial success again. The problem with rap started when white business men started to buy rappers and their music.

Unfortunately, until the truth is revealed to either culture in America; no one will desire to be themselves. The fear the media puts into each person will cause most people to choose one side or the other. Unless people can lift the suppression on art through true free expression, things will only get worse.

Why the [1960's 1970's] Revolution Failed

Today seems to be in reseblance to the 1960s in certain ways. Just like today, major change was promised in the 1960s. However, not much has changed except that American politics have become more corrupt and the counter-culture has become less educated. Could it be by design or is it simply that people hae lost the will to fight for their rights as a living being?

Since the beginning of the colonies, the American government has been influencing the media to keep its people under an ideal control. In the passed century, more and more; people have been able to counter it. Unfortunately, however, no one has quite had the control or power as the mainstream media has over the people of the United States. The problem persists and the mass-media continues to scare people into consuming and blindly following feelings of nationalism and racism.

From the 1950s to 1960s, the largest generation in US history was born. This, of course, was in the midst of the end of World War II. Therefore, the collective opinion that absolute violence is the solution was also just born. However, with a larger culture of Americans comes a larger counter-culture. Children who were abused in seemingly "good, christian" families. Also, those who were raised in an "unconventional" family; unconventional to the governments portrayal of an ideal family through the media, of course. A mislead mainstream culture ultimately resulted, and still does result, in a mislead counter-culture. People of the counter-culture believed that absolute peace is the answer to a problem, as a result of the mainstream's belief of the opposite.

There is a such thing as two mainstreams. There is the US government's ideal mainstream culture, formed through the media. There is also the mainstream counter-culture, also formed through the media. Neither offered a very good solution to a problem. However, both had this in common; they both resorted to violence in the end.

During the 1960s and 1970s were protests. These protests were led by the counter-culture and were supposed to be peaceful rallies and marches and such. What the counter-culture was fighting for was equality amongst all people, or "peace between every person." What started these protests was the protests versus the US government's decision to use military force to keep what the media called "Communism" out of Viet Nam. They did have political speakers and such; however, they were quickly ousted by the highly conservative US government.

One of the most successful and most influential speakers for human equality was Martin Luther King Jr. In 1968, the Army Special Forces of Memphis worked with the Sicilian Mafia to kill Luther King Jr. The US military forces get orders from its government. Therefore, it was the government who ordered anyone was becoming too powerful and had too many supporters. This includes Democratic leaders of government; such as Harvey Milk and John Kennedy. After Martin Luther King Jr. was killed, all of the progress he made for his people died with him. His listeners resorted to riots and killed many others, as well as being killed be police and other white people.

In 1969, there was a large gathering of counter-cultured people. The intent was to protest against the US government's imperial actions in Viet Nam. It turned out to be just another drug-ridden concert. There were political statements by the musicians who played and such. However, most of the music was about next to nothing and no proceeds went towards any war-ending cause. The only thing the people did at Woodstock was abuse drugs and have random sex with one another. After Woodstock were riots versus the police and members of the mainstream cuture.

There were, still, a lot of successful protests. The most successful of which were sit-ins that shut down universities nation wide. Some of the most unsuccessful were "peace rallies." These "peace rallies" constantly turned into riots. Riots were generally started because violence or force was used of the protesters. With all of the energy around the people in these protests, positive energy quickly turned into negative energy and many of the peace protesters became enraged and lashed out in violence, causing the counter-protester to do the same and so on. So much for "absolute peace."

Meanwhile, absolute violence had failed as well; as the US government did not meet its objective after taking its military out of Viet Nam. However, much denial was dealt by the mainstream mass media and many pro-Americans deny that the war was lost. No one learned from this, however; not even the US government. Even today, the US government deploys its military to foreign lands for imperial purposes yet no progress is being made. So much for "absolute violence."

There was one last chance for the sake of absolute peace. A man by the name of John Lennon, who--at the time--was a former member of a band famously known as The Beatles, started protest statements of his own that seemed far more peaceful than the chaotic ones that the disorganised counter-culture led. In fact; the protests were so successful, and were gaining so much support, that it caught the attention of the, still, highly conservative US government. The US government used their new wire-tapping system and agents to watch Lennon's every action. Conservative US president of 1973, Richard Nixon, tried to have Lennon deported because he was a threat to his re-election. Nixon managed to get re-elected. However, he did this by not playing the election fairly. A couple of years later, Nixon was caught; and he later resigned. His successor, Gerold Ford, overturned the deportation proceedings.

In December 1980, John Lennon was shot, four times, outside of the New York apartment building he lived at. He died, later that night, along with his message of absolute peace.

Throughout American history since these precedings, the mainstream counter-culture has searched for a solution countering that of the mainstream media and government. In a large portion of the 1980s, the counter-culture figured the solution was no government, rather than government. There was much rebellion to government and organised establishment. However, it was no more than the rebellion parents would get from their child. This period in counter-culture acted out of angst and most would grow, and still do grow, out of this phase. This counter-culture also used violence as a solution, which was a "fight fire with fire" tactic that ultimately failed.

The 1990s and the decade that recently was had mislead counter-culture due to a continuously misled mainstream culture. Today's mainstream counter-culter is mislead to believe that apathy, narcissism, and pessimism will frustrate and disturb the mainstream culture. Its a basic tactic of "love vs hate" where the mainstream says to fight with love and the counter-culture counters that with hate. Both sides are misguided as they have always been. As long as the mainstream culture is mislead by the media and the US government, there will always be a mislead mainstream counter-culture.

No true change can come unless the truth is told by both sides. However, since both sides are distracted and fixated on who is right and who is wrong; the truth will not be sought. With only a very, very small amount of people actually seeking the truth throughout all the chaos and the bickering; no progress is likely to be made. No matter who is president of what, not just one person can bring change. As it is, nothing can change the world.
