"I brought you some hard boiled eggs and some nuts." - Stan Laurel from County Hospital
My dad is a fan and that's one of his favorite lines ever. Soooo...he opens his Father's Day gift and inside, I've put two boiled eggs in a plastic bag with some ribbon, and some bags of nuts. He loved it and said, "You know, if you ever find that movie, it would be a treasure."
I told him to look in the bottom of his gift bag. Wrapped in tissue was an SD card that Stabb had meticulously loaded with media - music and documentaries that he'd picked out for dad to help out while he's fighting cancer again - and a video I asked him to put on there.
So, we watched County Hospital together, Mom, dad, Stabb, my sister, and me. We laughed and dad was a genuinely happy guy. It was one of those moments that goes extraordinarily well. I never expected we'd all watch it with him. What a warm and lovely Father's Day. I'm so grateful for times like these.
Unexpected... a $6000 donation!!! People are so good. I just asked my board for an increase in Homeless Housing area and in Utilities help. We have already spent all of our annual budgets in those two areas. People are hurting so much this year.
And in walks a little lady with a big check and a beautiful heart!
The Wunderkind has arrived!
We woke at 4:30 and began the drive to the airport. Sevenn would die...5 AM on the 24 mile bridge to New Orleans!
He called from Kansas at noon and he's off to orientation. He and his boss sounded so excited to finally be able to get busy. He's going to be working for an international company, helping them build a network to link up their three countries more efficiently.
I'm so proud of him. And best of all, now we can start planning the wedding bells! God is good.
It came in the mail today! After months of INS forms and interviews, his work authorization finally came in. He's had a wonderful job for 2 months now and they've waited patiently for him to get this card so they could start him.
We are dancing around, so excited. He called his work and they booked him a flight out early tomorrow to train. He'll be home Friday night and then out again next week.
The Center will miss him, but we're all happy for him. We'll miss our favorite volunteer, but he's on to bigger and better things.
