Well one of my friends does things like this a lot, she overdosed two weeks ago and was in hospital and she threatened to drink hairspray yesterday. I don't know what to do either, but i keep changing the subject and getting her to focus on something good, no matter how tiny it is. It works, only for a short time but it does work. I'm sorry, it's not very good advice.

Please refer her to a suicide hotline. You do not need to feel responsible for keeping someone from killing themselves. She needs professional help. It is ok for you to be there for her, but for your own sake you do not need to be her sole support system. That is too much to expect of you.
