Monty finally got the call about his job. He starts on the Galaxy 2 rig (somewhere in the North Sea) on Dec. 10 and thus begins his three weeks on/three weeks life to which I will also have to become accustomed. I will miss him tremendously as he is my bestest friend ever...but am glad that he will finally be working and making money (actually quite a lot for the UK - and in US dollars we would be doing really well right off the bat...) so in that sense, it gives me the peace of mind and security to know that just because my student loan money may expire - my life here won't have to. He plans to pay the rent on the flat for the next year and also help with the utilities and food. This frees up my money for research - which I have to do a lot of.
I discovered that I have to go to the Stuart Papers at Windsor to look through them and see if I can find any further information on Lord William there. That means I have to get the Queen's permission to view the archives as this is at Windsor Castle.
Great - now I have to deal with royalty.
What next?
Anyhoo, I am going to watch the Futurama movie now and prepare for my meeting with Mackie tomorrow. He is my new adviser in lieu of Allan Macinnes who took more money to teach at Strathclyde and was having serious issues with the university administration here over the last few years as he was finalizing his book on the Union.
I hope he isn't too disappointed that I haven't yet finished that pithy book he had me read. It is good material but I have never seen anyone use so many commas and parentheses in a sentence before.
If I meet the author, I might have to tell him what great bed-time reading his book is....
...has been nice while things lasted. So far so good and all that jazz...
Well, here's the deal gang.
I can't worry any more about whether or not I am number one at Boggled (let's face it - we all know that I rule the school there no matter what the scores reflect in days to come); I can't worry about whether my profile is number one (frankly, the Boggled #1 position means far more to me than the inane profile ratings - at ALL times); and I can't worry or care about whether I get great ratings or spend time here and keep my number #2 spot in the coven (edit: I am happy to leave that spot to the person who truly deserves it, mtsoul77, whom I knew from the get-go was a major player here and would do our coven proud, love ya sis! ;))..... or earn favor at all. I don't like the new favor system in some respects as it is not fair to those of us that can't spend a lot of time here any longer but still care and can earn favor for a few hours a week by playing games.
As an aside, there has to be a way to re-incorporate the coven and house competition through games or something; this pussy 'I have this coven's protection stamp' is ludicrous to me. Would real vampires act this way? In the united nations of vampire societies that is slowly forming, who jockeys for position as the 'big cheese'? I mean, who gets to be the USA or UK of the VR societies now? Give me a break...(edit: In my humble opinion the Houses should be the ones to issue protection stamps if any are issued at all in this manner. Protection stamps from covens should be limited to those under the level of Caitiff that are a 'friend' of a particular coven and are hoping for membership. Individual protection stamps are fine. Those show loyalty and friendship which I surmise is always welcome by anyone. Who doesn't want friends?)
Anyhoo -the upshot is that I have been called to task and I have a LOT of work to do to get this PhD sorted out.
If you don't see me, hear from me or I lose all my 'standing' here then so be it.
Real life has a funny way of creeping in to let you know it wants you to stand up and pay attention to it so vacation is formally over. I am not saying that I can't be around at all - just that the moment has arrived when none of this stuff means anything compared to what my future holds....
simple as that.
and by the way, nothing lasts forever...
What a loooong week it has been but so much fun!
I had a great time at Blair-Athol and have loads of pictures to upload and share with all but need to rest for a bit first and get them all loaded so I can share with you.
What a great place to spend time - the Highlands of Scotland. I wish I could live there!
