Your Scholastic Strength Is Deep Thinking |
You aren't afraid to delve head first into a difficult subject, with mastery as your goal. You are talented at adapting, motivating others, managing resources, and analyzing risk. You should major in: Philosophy Music Theology Art History Foreign language |
I used to be a theater major once upon a time and actually was in several university and community theater stuff. I love live theater.
I plan to get back into it again in Aberdeen, lurking at the Drama dept. for fun and trying out for the odd part here and there. Besides which, I have taken stagecraft, scenographics, stage makeup, costuming and wardrobe and several levels of acting classes. My favorite gig though was as stage manager for our production of "Marriage of Figaro.” I loved the POWER!!!
HA HA HA
I also want to find out if there is a Hockey club and go watch them skate at least once a week. Hockey players are pretty yummy usually (if they still have their teeth that is).
Oh the fun I intend to have - heh!
I wish to be considered for an award as I have demonstrated exemplary dedication to achieving this goal since the process began more than a year ago. My interest in the subject is high; I read numerous books and continue to study Internet-based sites relating to Scottish History, particularly the era encompassing my research period. I have utilized my time since my acceptance to educate and prepare myself for the research that I wish to undertake. My ability as a researcher is strong – I am highly organized with the maturity and determination to fully complete research of the subject utilizing archival records and fieldwork. Holding a non-traditional Bachelor of Science in History allows me to stress my ability to conduct proper scientific research and structure my results for analytical review.
My interest in the topic and ability to conduct research for this era of Scottish history will extend beyond my time working toward my degree. I plan to continue researching subjects I uncover in my initial research with in-depth analysis and make this research available for analysis and publication. I would also enjoy the opportunity to pass on the knowledge that I gain to both undergraduate students and the general populace through teaching and speaking to those interested in the subject matter.
I am non-traditional student. I am older than most as I spent the 14 years since receiving my Bachelor of Science degree concentrating on successfully raising my daughter who is attending an elite engineering school. Due to my length of absence from a formal academic setting and several other factors, there are fewer resources available to supplement my research study. I feel that I would be an excellent candidate for a grant or bursary, as I am extremely goal-oriented and can commit myself to the requirements needed to conduct and conclude the program. The reward to the historical community will culminate upon publication of my research and my example may offer to others in similar circumstances a hope that they too may achieve a life goal.

To Whom It May Concern:
Attached is my application for a Research Studentship, Scholarship or Research Bursary or grant for the upcoming 2006 – 2007 academic year. I am excited for the opportunity to research at the foremost school in the world for Irish and Scottish studies. Studying at Aberdeen will afford me the opportunity to investigate my chosen topic in the setting where it occurred and allow me to examine archival records that are found exclusively in Scotland. The opportunity to work with Dr. Allan Macinness, a leading expert in this era of Scottish history, will be most beneficial to my success as a post-graduate.
I am in a rather unique situation, as I did not attend graduate school within a few years of receiving my Bachelor’s degree. I made the decision to work and focus my attention on my child, putting my long-term goals on hold. I was able to assimilate vague ideas about what direction my postgraduate work should take as she neared the end of secondary school. During my graduate course work from 2003 – 2004, I decided to return to my roots in history. After careful consideration of diverse options I felt motivated to study in Aberdeen.
Due to my age and circumstances fewer resources are available for me. Because I focused on a balanced life approach for my daughter and the responsibility this entailed, I was not completely grade-driven as an undergraduate. This has absolutely changed. I maintained a 3.98 average as a graduate student at the University of Phoenix. My dedication to excellent work has increased with my maturity. I shall devote myself fully to creating a well constructed, thoroughly researched and easily accessible doctoral dissertation.
I appreciate the time taken to review my application and look forward to commencing my studies in Aberdeen this fall.
Very Truly Yours,
Cheryl L. Garrett
