"The list says we need:
- A human female virgin
- A vampire's fang
- a lock of fur from a werewolf
- The weapon used
- A vile of a hybrid's blood
- A snow owl's wing feather
- A raven's eye
- The liquid squeezed from 3 black roses
- 6 black flame candles
- A bottle of salt
"Okay, that's all we need. So, lets get started."
Davey starred at me. "What? 'thats all we need'? 'Thats ALL'?
I nodded. "Yeah, 'thats all.' Now lets get going." Davey shook his head and smiled. "Okay, i know where we can get half of the stuff on the list. So, can we get going?" Davey nodded. "Are we walking or flying?"
Davey laughed. "I thought we'd take my car."
"YOU have a CAR?" I said bug eyed, emphasizing on the two words. "I didn't know vampires could drive."
Davey laughed again. "Yes i have a car. And yes i CAN drive." He said adding extra emphasis on the word. "Lets go." He gently placed his hand on the small small of my back and led me to a beautiful black Shelby Convertible with blood red leather interior.
This was the car of my dreams. As i looked at the car, my mind raced. How did he get it? Where did he find it? My stomach growled interrupting my thoughts and i smiled sheepishly. "I'm not that hungry." I started toward the car but stopped short. My world spun out of control and i saw the concrete fly towards my face before my world went black. Davey's voice seemed to come and go with the wind. It was so faint, so distant. As if he was miles away.
When i came to, the first thing i heard was Davey screaming in my ear. He was louder than my mom was. Mom... I missed her terribly. would i ever get to see her again? Probably not.
"Are you okay?!" Davey shouted.
"I'm fine." I said, trying to sound as convincing as i could. "I don't think i can hear anymore." I rubbed my ears and my stomach growled again. "I guess i was that hungry."
Davey smiled. "I'm just-" He paused and looked deeply into my eyes. They were full of worry, love, passion, hurt, anxiety, lust, anger, and hope. Not in that order. "I think i'll take that reward now." I looked at him questioningly. "Don't tell me you forgot about my reward? I got you breakfast in bed. Mother said you owed me. I want my reward." He grinned at his success. Our lips crushed together before i could get a word in edgewise. Fire, ice, and water. Over and over. My fingers got lost in his hair, my body crushed against his. I knew i didn't have to breathe. That was what made this kiss better than the rest. We didn't have to separate for air. I was in another world now. There was no one around so, no interruptions. Not true, my stomach growled again. Davey leaned away and chuckled. I instantly felt cold, alone, and empty. I wanted him to kiss me again but never stop. I wanted him. I leaned forward to kiss him again. he kissed me short and pulled away and looked me in the eyes. "I love you, Serene." He spoke the words softly. As if talking to a lover.
I smiled as my cheeks tried to flush. "I-" I paused. Did i love him?
As i was questioning myself, Davey broke into my thoughts. "You don't have to say it back. I just wanted you to know how i feel." He said, his voice soft again, like an angel's wing.
"Thank you, Davey." My stomach growled loudly again.
Davey laughed and said, "Maybe we should get some breakfast before we leave?"
"I'm thinking... twenty- two, blond, big boobs, small-ish ass, about 5' 10". What about you?" I turned to Davey.
"Um... I don't have a preference." He grinned sheepishly. "We had better hurry up before you faint again." He laughed until i scowled at him and he stopped suddenly, deep in thought.
"Davey? Are you okay?"
"I was thinking of where i could get a girl for you to feast upon." I shuddered, remembering Tom. Remembering the look in his eyes. The fear there was unbearable. "One Blondie Breakfast coming right up!" Davey smiled. "May i, my love?" He bowed sarcastically and i nodded.
Davey came out of 'Club Dread: Bar and Billiard' with one girl on each arm. A tall blond, the exact type i wanted, on his left and a large brunette on his right. "Thats bad for your cholesterol." I teased.
"Your not even my fiance and you're already on my health issues." He smiled. "Plus she not fat. She's chunky. if you would prefer i would go and trade in for another."
"It is up to you, my love." I challenged. "You may do as you wish."
"I will be right back. I need a new meal. This one seems to be too fattening." He rolled his eyes and walked back inside. I smiled and went about my meal. She didn't seem to care that i was biting her. She looked at me the whole time smiling and moaning when i bit her. "Are you enjoying your freshie?"
"Freshie? What is a freshie?"
"It is a person who willingly gives their blood to a vampire. They like the way it feels. I don't know. Something about the high it gives them. This bar is a gathering of freshies."

After breakfast, we walked back to Davey's car. I went to open my door but found it locked. "we need to start gathering-"
"Shut up and kiss me." Davey mumbled under his breath.
I threw my arms around his neck as his hands came to my sides, caressing them he slowly moved upward toward my breasts. Davey leaned me up against the car pressing every inch of me to him. I moaned as he made his way to my neck, nibbling and biting. I lifted his lips back to mine. His hands ventured back to my hips, dancing across my sides, and my back. I gasped as one of his hands left my side to caress my legs and between them.
"Davey," I panted. i knew i didn't need the air but i didn't care. "I can't." His hands returned to my hips. "I'm sorry, Davey." My voice quivered as well as my hands. "I'm so sorry."
"Shh. It's okay. I over stepped my own boundaries. I am the one who should be sorry. I should have more self control. He kissed me once more before opening my door. "Yes we must begin-" He paused to wipe lipstick from his mouth. "-gathering for mother's ritual."
I slowly nodded. "I guess we can start at the top of the list. I can get the sage, raven's eye, black roses, candles, and salt from my house." I paused. "Home." I used to think of home in disgust. I missed my home. My mom, as bitchy as she was. i loved her. even my little sister, she was always trying to be just like me. She always tried to steal my clothes. I guess she could have them now.
"Are you okay?" Davey asked softly, breaking into my thoughts of home. I wiped away my tears and lied. "Yeah, i'm fine. I just never thought of home being somewhere i could never go back to. A place i would be cast out of." Davey looked at me gloomily. Eyes full of sorrow and regret. He felt as if my being a vampire was his fault? maybe the dying part, but i chose to drink his blood and be all vampiric like.
"You can't blame yourself for my mistakes." He was almost in tears. "Were you going to go to college?" His voice was shaky. "Would you have had children? Or a husban.d to provide for you?" The tears were coming quickly now. "I ruined your life. I made you a monster. I can never do anything to change it."
I had had enough of his sorrow run. "Who says i din't want this? So far as i can tell it wasn't a mistake; it was a gift. And i thank you for it. Who says i can't still go to college unless thats against the rules too. Maybe i can't have children but i can still get married. I must be the cutest monster you ever saw. If i am a monster, then so be it. I don't want to change. If i was never changed, would i have ever met you? You didn't end my life. You made me stronger. I thank you for that. I don't hate you for it. How could i hate you if i love you?"
Davey looked at me. "You love me?" His eyes lit up.
"Yes and this time, i'm sure." I smiled sweetly. "I love you."
He kissed me and started the car whistling a happy tune as we drove off. "We'll get the werewolf fur first." I nodded slowly as the car started its journey.
I had overheard mom talking to Aunt Clarice about something she would not tell me. Naturally, i decided i must find out. Typical five-year-old.
"I can't tell Sarah. It would break her heart." I heard mom say. "I... I'll tell her when she's old enough."
"you can't keep this from her for long. She's a bright young child. She'll find out somehow. What did you tell her when her pet snake died? oh, that's right. I remember, you said, 'He got stuck in a hole in the back yard. The mowers didn't see him.' She cried for a month. What will you tell her this time? 'No honey, he didn't leave us, he died in the war.' "
"I don't know. Are you happy now? I have no idea of what im going to tell her." Mom was almost yelling now. I knew i should leave before i got caught
I whimpered a little but barely caught myself. I clamped my hands over my mouth, but it was too late. They heard me.
"I thought you put her in bed." Auntie Clarice was saying to mom as she opened the door, revealing me in my tear soaked nightgown.
"Oh, Sarah. What are you doing up so late?"
* * * * * * * * * * * *
I awoke to the sound of crickets chirping. i had loved that sound as a child, it had lulled me to sleep after the news of my father's betrayal. It served its place in my life just as my dad's lullaby's.
I looked about the room, my heater was no where in sight. "Davey?" I called innocently. No answer. Yup. My heater was either playing tricks on me or was out getting breakfast. I closed my eyes and let out a deep sigh. I re-opened my eyes and let out a small shriek. Davey was sitting just as he was the previous night, almost directly on top of me.
"Davey?! Don't scare me like that. Maybe a little space?"
He chuckled. "Is that the way you treat someone who brings you breakfast?" He held up a white mug with a logo saying 'I heart Vampires' it on the front and the back.
I smiled and took the mug in my hands. I looked into the cup and inhaled deeply. "It smells great, but what is it?" I felt my cheeks try to flush again.
"The best stuff we have. Virgin blood straight from the heart. If you drink it now it'll still be warm." He grinned but it faded when i grimaced. "I'm sorry. I know you aren't used to it yet. I should have been more careful.
He wouldn't stop his apology so i figured i'd have to make him stop. I lifted the cup to my mouth expecting it to be sour and taste worse than rotten eggs and milk. It was like honey. warm honey and sweet milk. I instantly gulped the rest down and looked at Davey expecting another mug. He only smiled. "What? Did i do something wrong?" I started to worry that i did something wrong and he would hate me for it later. When he stayed silent it made me worry all the more. "Davey, what did i do wrong?"
"Nothing." His smile grew to a grin. "Nothing wrong." He was still grinning.
"Then what is it? Why are you smiling?"
He looked like he was holding something back. "You have a bloody-mustache!" He exploded with laughter that knocked him to the floor.
I half smirked and wiped it off. "Yeah, very funny. Get up Davey. I want to go hunting with you for breakfast. I was thinking something different on the menu. Maybe not humans? Maybe something else. Like deer or cows."
He had stopped laughing and was looking at me seriously. "Are you sure you want to try that?"
"Why not?"
"Humans are cattle.'
"Is that what i was to you? Mere cattle?
"You were different."
"What about my friends"
"They do not know you as a vampire. you are dead to them."
"What about my mother? she is alone. Can i never see her again?"
"No. I am sorry. I cannot allow that. She will be too confused with thinking you are dead. All the changes you've gone through will scare her. She will no longer know you as her daughter."
"You... You tricked me into thinking being a vampire was all about freedom and no sickness. You tricked me."
"I did not trick you. I saved you from death. We all go through the same trials. All vampires do."
"Then send me back. I want to see my mother."
"I can not send you back. You have a new mother now. She will take care of you."
"You cannot or you will not? I don't want a new mother. I want my mother."
"You can't have your mother back."
"Why not? I love her."
"She is not your mother anymore. I am sorry, but she is cattle. Unless you would change her?"
I paused. This was an alternative i had not thought of. Maybe i could do this. Maybe i could make my mother one of us.i could have my mother. No. I would not change her. I would not make her drink blood for the rest of her existence.
Davey seemed to sense my decision. "It is decided. you will leave her and will not change you mother nor try to talk to her."
I nodded once. "Where is mother?" I tried to change the subject, dying for something else to talk about.
My ploy worked. "Oh, she's around. Come on. We're supposed to meet her in the library. She's called a 'Family Meeting' we are to attend."
"A family meeting?" I asked confused.
"A meeting for the entire coven to attend."
"Oh." A family meeting. Why didn't i think of that?
He led me through the foyers and hallways, Twisting and turning like a snake. Finally, we turned a corner to a double door. It was elegant and yet Informal. I let my head fall back as i looked at the doors. They seemed to be ten feet tall. Davey let go of my arm to open the doors. Causing me to feel cold and alone as i was to walk in by myself. Luckily, there was nobody there to see me trip over my feet and almost fall on my face before Davey caught me. It was huge! I starred in amazement as i took a book off the shelf called 'Our History.'
'That book contains all we as vampires know," Davey took the book from my hands and flipped through it. "Books like these aren't too popular." He smirked and a shudder passed through me. "You really aren't used to that word are you?" I couldn't help but to hang my head and slowly nod. His smirk grew to a grin once more. "Don't worry." He wrapped his arms around me. "It will pass in time. The same as everything else passes. Believe me child, it will pass."
His voice was soothing. It seemed to vibrate within my unmoving heart, my soul, my entire being was alive with the sound of his voice.
I remembered my mother used to tell me this is what it felt like to be in love. It was really hard to explain. she kept starting over. Then she would stop and start again trying to get it right to fit the feeling. Eventually, she gave up and told me that some day i would know how it felt.
I felt my entire body warm and lift off the floor. We were dancing. We were dancing in the air. He spun me around and we seemed to dance to a waltz. He paused and looked into my eyes. Like he did the night of out first kiss. His lips crushed against mine. The fire returned from the first kiss. Followed by the ice and water.
Suddenly, the doors burst open and in walked, more like floated Mother followed by all the vampire elders, and the rest of the coven.
Davey and i sprung apart not daring to look at mother or the other vampires. We were locked in each others gaze. The fierceness of the passion in his eyes was overwhelming. I fought the urge to run back into his arms. The mere memory of his lips against mine made me uneasy. I wanted him here, beside me. I wanted to feel his presence engulf me. I wanted the scent to surround me, tantalizing my senses. But most of all, i just wanted him.
"I see you two have warmed up quite nicely. Good. I do not like to see my children fight amongst each other." She turned to me, "Did you enjoy your breakfast?" I nodded and she smiled. "I'm glad. Davey picked the human for slaughter." she spit the word, human out, like it was dirt in her mouth. Like it was just cattle. "A fine fresh young girl. Make sure you thank him before me."
Davey smiled. "No thanks are necessary. I did what you might like my fair maiden." He bowed in reverence to me. He grinned ear to ear. "I would however like to collect some thanks, but later would suffice. Now, Mother has something to say. Mother?
I looked at him serenely, my mind seemed to wander. Was he thinking what i was thinking? What could Mother want to talk to us about? I thought the blood from this evening tasted different. Something wasn't right. That look in Mother's eyes, something was wrong. What could it be?
Just then Mother tore into my thoughts. "One of our kin has been killed." She began. "Daughter, are you listening?" She looked at me.
"Yes Mother, but aren't our kin being killed everyday with vampire slayers and that Helsing man running about?" An amused chuckle fell about the coven as Davey whispered in my ear.
"Van Helsing is not real. I am sorry i did not mention that." i nodded and took in the embarrassment without complaint.
"Megan was killed by a lycan."
Before i could ask Davey helped me again by whispering in my ear. "A lycan is a werewolf."
I leaned back "Thanks for the save." He smiled. "What are y'all fighting over some kind of medallion from Indiana Jones?" I smirked.
"We fight for the future of mankind. They are our food supply. We need them to survive. Well, maybe not survive off of them but they do bring us our beauty. I am sorry you were turned at this point in time, but somethings happen that we cannot control."
"Something you could not control? Are you telling me you could not control my becoming a vampire? You could not control my being bitten?" I was yelling now, completely furious.
"My child-" Mother began but i interrupted before she had the chance to stop me.
"No!" I screamed. "I want no more lies! I want the truth. What happened?" I turned to Mother. "Did you kill her because that was what happened to you? Because thats what your father tried to do to you? I want answers, and i want them now. Why are you in this war against them? What did they do that was so wrong, or was it you that did the wrong? What exactly did i see in the visions i had?"
"Well, my child-" I interrupted Mother again.
"Call me by my name or- Well, since that part of my life is over- Give me a new one. I am not a child anymore."
"Very well, Davey shall name you. He is your maker after all." She waved her hand dismissively as if nothing mattered.
Davey looked at me surprised. "Uh, what a name from me?"
I nodded slowly. "Thats what she said."
"Okay. How about Serene?"
I thought it over. Serene. I loved the way it rolled off my tongue. It was like water; soothing water running forever and never stopping into a pool. Like our kiss. It was liquid fire. "I love it." I grinned.
"Well, my- I mean Serene, we need to get back to the discussion." Simultaneously the other vampires left all at once. "I sent them away. They don't need to hear this. I asked the ones who wanted to hear to stay. That woman you saw tied at the stake was indeed me.
"My father never approved of me falling in love with a mortal. But, alas, i did. His name was Allen.I loved Allen more than anything, or anyone else i have ever known. More than my father. He was tall and handsome, a bit like Davey. That is why i had him changed, you know." I felt Davey stiffen at this news. I squeezed his arm and he relaxed a little. "Allen and i went everywhere together. Not during the day, but you get the point. One night i told him i was a vampire. He was afraid at first but then calmed down upon the knowledge i would not hurt him. He asked me not to change him. I agreed and explained to him what it was like to be one of my kin. After three years of dating, my father found out and was furious. He told me i must leave Allen and never speak to him or about him again unless i wanted him dead or one of us. I tried to disobey my father and runaway with Allen. But one cannot simply run away from a vampire. He followed us and threatened to kill Allen and to lock me away. I told Allen that i was leaving and would never return. What i did not know was that father had heard me say that i was returning to Allen. After we had gotten back to the mansion Father locked me away and sent someone to kill Allen. I got out and to Allen as he was about to die. It was the only way to save him after my father 's hunter gave him a fatal heart wound in the chest. I gave him my blood, promising i would never have done it otherwise. I knew Allen was safe, But i was being followed by father. He got me back to the mansion and put me to the stake. I was to be burned. Allen was brought to me and tied down, he was to watch my being killed. I did a little spell that made myself disappear and got Allen and myself out before we were caught again. But alas father found us once more. He tried to kill Allen himself and i was so angry that i killed him. I killed my own father, my maker. I had hidden a small wooden shaft in my bosom. Allen and i are now married and he is, against his will, the head of the vampire coven. As my husband, he has that right. After my father died, i became ruler."
My mind swarmed with visions of her past. All she had said was true. I could feel it. Some how i knew it was all true. She was the oldest of all Vampires. My childhood dream was to meet the oldest of all vampires; not only had i met the oldest, but i was one. Suddenly, i wanted an autograph. I needed it. She was the oldest living- well kinda- vampire! I was a vampire. A VAMPIRE! i loved the views, the new scents. Everything i ever wanted i had. I was a vampire, i was in love with a vampire, and i was about to get the autograph of the oldest living vampire. my life was complete. "So, you killed your father and now rule the underworld?" She nodded. "WOW. Was all that before lunch?"
Davey took his turn to speak. "You chose to hide all these things from your children?" Mother winced at the pain in his words and nodded. Davey continued. "Why do all these things to your own family? You are the only reason why the Lycan are angry with us. They want you and Father, we are just in the way. I protected you all the centuries for nothing but lies?! Your father had a deal going with them, did he not? He told you about the deal as he lay dying. But you broke off the deal, how could you do that to your own family?" Davey's looks shot through her like a thousand daggers. She sunk to the floor letting out a long wail, asking us to forgive us and to let her try to fix it.
"Why should we let you fix it? You are the one who started it all. Your death may end the war." I knew my words were running together as i spoke. But i din't care. She was no longer my Mother.
She sat for a moment trying to compose herself. After a moment she stood up and continued as if she had never confessed. "You need to let me talk to them. They don't just want me dead. They want my father back."
It was Davey's turn to speak again, "What do they want with Marcus? What good could he do them now? He's dead and there is no way he can be brought back. Is there?" He looked fiercely into Mother's eyes.
"There is one way, but if it is done improperly, it will destroy the one preforming the spell.
"What needs to be done?" Davey and i spoke in unison.
"First you will need a live human female virgin."
"I know where to find one." I grinned as i thought of Brittany Skimmers.
