I picked up a book of Maya Angelou's poetry at the library the other day; she's one of my favorite poets. I was reading it at work and I got such a rude reminder that I'm truly in the south, just about half the people I worked with made comments about not being able to identify with her "black" point of view... I must be dense because I just don't get it. Not that I don't see how being a minority in this country during the era she grew up in must have colored her perspective but, it's more that I don't believe that her poetry smacks of any poor me sentimentality or defiance that can be only related to by someone of the same color and generation. I find the imagery and rhythm of her poetry both soothing and sensual. I relate to so much of the sentiment she portrays, but I don't understand why people think that you would have to black to do that? Racism is stupid and sadly still alive and well.
I, however, must admit that I'm prejudice... I'm prejudice against, racists, rapists, child molesters, and stupid people!
Why is it that best things in life are so much darn work? How come I can't get paid a ton of money to do what ever I want, when ever I want? Why can't I just flap my arms and fly?

Because someone invented gravity.. Stupid them, huh?
Yeah! How come :P
I'm currently working my way through Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series and Kim Harrison's Hollows series. I started out enjoying Hamilton's series but am starting to wonder about her uber macho tiny female character that seems to be a bit of a repressed nympho though I have to admit the woman does write a heart pounding sex scene. Harrison's series is getting better with each book so far though. Both are total bubble gum for the mind and i realize that I should probably be reading something with a little more substance, but shoot me, I'm a sucker for some undead romance, lol.
I did just read a historical fiction novel "The Lady Macbeth" based on a woman they believe was the real lady Macbeth. Decent read, but it walked the line so much between fiction and historical that it didn't really accomplish either well. I found the ending notes on the historical research more interesting than the book itself.

I love both those series and they relax me wonderfully when I read them. Hamilton's books lost focus for a bit and became more sexual than story but the last couple have started moving back toward the action adventure that first hooked me on them. If you've not run into Hamilton's Merry Gentry series I recommend it as those faeries are not playing nice no matter how it sounds. lol
I love Laurell K Hamilton ,Anita Baker Books and her Other ones too but I have never heard of the other chick
Kim Harrison's Hollows series gonna go check her out on the internet now. besides the real like stuff is always there there for a little fantasy never hurt anyone , it just helps to relax and for get about everyday Crap.
There is something quite nice about realizing that you enjoy your own company... I tend to be a bit co-dependent with certain people in my life, but so much time on my own and I find that I would really just rather hang out with me.
Dear Journal, I believe it's time to resort to a life of crime in order to fund the extravegent life style that i wish to lead. Don't worry though I'll only steal from the rich and once I have enough money, I'll give to the poor as well.
Oh lovely journal what shall we speak of today. Should we speak of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series and how after finishing the fifth book I'm wondering if her story line might be getting just a wee bit tired and drawn out? Or shall we discuss how I seem to be completely addicted to procrastination? Oh I know, lets talk about the smashing hot pink color I just painted my nails! Then we will discuss the latest celebrity gossizp, share the dirt on which boys/girls we've been flirting with and fall on the floor giggling! After that we'll put on our skimpy jammies and have a pillow fight...
errr... oops.... bunny trails.
The sun is shining and the temperature is rising. I don't have airconditioning my car or my house and since this is just the first of the spring warmth I'm thinking I may be in a wee bit of trouble battling the heat this summer. At least I can bear it for the moment and the a/c in the library right now is heavenly. I should probably start seriously looking for a new place to live though.

I stop reading the Anita Blake about ...4 books in? When it just kept doing the same thing over and over- and her hunting, fear me I am a woman who kills vampire tune stop. I mean..how many ways can you have three guys at once. Am I right or am I right?

Personally I loved the series :)
I agree Rat, but I do have to say the sex scene in "The Killing Dance" was well worth the wait, lol! Damn it's getting hot in here just thinking about it.
